Confirmed: Fast-Exit Flight Attendant No Longer Works for JetBlue

(AP) — Sometimes there’s no going back.

JetBlue Airways says that there will be no second exits for famed flight attendant Steven Slater — who captured the nation’s imagination with his profanity-laced loudspeaker tirade and jump down a plane’s emergency chute, beer in hand.

Spokeswoman Jenny Dervin said Saturday that Slater is no longer employed by the airline. She said the airline won‘t release further details out of respect for Slater’s privacy.

Slater’s lawyer had said he loved flying and wanted to return to work, and Slater’s folk-hero status among tens of thousands of online fans had led some of them to urge the airline to keep him on.

The airline said at the time of the incident last month that Slater was suspended pending an investigation. It told employees in a memo that press coverage was not taking into account how much harm can be caused by emergency slides, which are deployed with a potentially deadly amount of force.

The former flight attendant still has to navigate the criminal justice system. He’s been charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and trespassing; his lawyer has said a passenger’s “lack of civility” prompted his behavior.

Despite Slater’s online popularity, some passengers came forward to criticize him as brusque and cranky throughout the 90-minute trip from Pittsburgh to New York. One passenger portrayed Slater as the instigator, saying he cursed without provocation at a woman who had asked about her bag.

His employment status was first reported by the NBC New York website.

I expect Slater to turn up on one of our Canadian Airlines, gender confusion and a crappy attitude seem to be major hiring points

My support of Gov. Huckabee in no way assumes what he would or wouldn’t say.
I’m guessing you object to my use of the word “queer”, and my graphic phraseology outlining homosexual behavior. The way I see it, part of the problem in the U.S.A. is that we’ve come to tolerate these abominable behaviors, instead of condemning them as shameful and abhorrent. We need to emphasize what it is these people do and just how sick and wrong it is. I don’t say those things out of hate or arrogance. For I know that I’m as great of a sinner as any homosexual, but I do not take PRIDE in my sins; I am ashamed of them. But you go right ahead and keep reporting me, because when I have something to say, I’m gonna say it, and if you don’t like it, tough tacos.
Incidently, the Governer used to be a Baptist preacher, did he not? I have yet to have a Baptist pastor who didn’t use the word “queer” when referring to homosexuals. Just sayin’.

So I guess there wasn’t a sky marshal on the plane to put him down?

I didn’t catch that in the story.

Do sky marshals really exist or are they just told to kids to get them to think twice about starting something on a plane?

I’m a “bully”? Lady, you don’t even know me, so for you to call me a bully is presumptuous and ignorant. Let me tell you what a bully is; a bully is someone with power hurting someone who is powerless, just for the sake of hurting them. In here, were all the same size (at least physically) and you chose to rebuke someone for using the phrase “light in the loafers”, so who‘s the one whom thinks they’re important? Hmmm? This ain’t Relief Society, lady, and I can bloviate (O’Reilly would be so proud of you!) all I want. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. Sheesh.

You mean Johnny! I think he resembles Johnny in that Johnny was also a queer (or at least I thought he was). Maybe he does kind of look like him a little, except Johnny was thinner with darker hair. I think I may have watched that movie way too many times.

That’s a great idea. And how about the buildings have a jail on the first floor that the chutes dump directly into. But no beer, only bologna on dry white, canned green beans (cold), and tap water.

    Trespassing.

What do you call being in the beer locker without authorization? Yes, theft is also involved.

What do you call being on the escape slide without proper cause? Yes, reckless endangerment is involved.

Rude and abusive stewardesses (of either sex) are among the reasons I don’t fly commercial unless there is just no other way AND I absolutely must go.

We call this phenomenon maturity or maybe self-control. Continuing to cover some idiot with impulse control issues speaks to what has gone wrong in America.

I’ve been on many flights where the jerks decide to hassle the cabin attendant. Wait until they get up front and ring the little bell, time after time and laugh about it. I’m not really sticking up for this man, but everyone has a point where they lose it. I think he worked for eighteen years, and yes he had been drinking, and I think he hit the point of no return and lost it.

It actually is a wake up call to all travelers…Be Kind to those that are there to help you.

What makes anyone think that these guy’s take anymore abuse than anyone else working in the public? If you work in public, then you must learn how to handle any kind of jerk that comes along, (and there are plenty of them), and walk away with a smile! If you can’t do this, then you can’t do your job! Making excuses for this idiot don’t cut it!

My point is that it is not honorable to stoop to base insults. “WhoFarted” is a good example of someone who doesn’t know how to take the high road. (And you as well, for defending that sort of commentary, and for deliberately mangling my name – what a lady/gentleman you are.)

Sorry about the the name mangle…I meant @MAC-Gruber ;)
(lighten up a little, will ya? It was probably funnier than the movie)

I’ve got an idea. Why don’t you call or write to Slater and pitch him your “honorable” schtick. Do you think he honored his parents, or his employer, or his charges when he pulled his little stunt. Of course you don’t. But you’d rather dump on us for deriding him as a queer (and, yes, when a man sticks his penis into another man’s anus, THAT’S QUEER!), than talk about his very dishonorable actions. WhoFarted‘s commentary wasn’t exactly what I’d call inflammatory, in fact it was pretty subdued. If I were to have put his thought to prose it would have come out at a much lower road than his. And incidentally, I’m not a lady/gentleman. That distiction belongs to the fired stewardess…oh, wait…not so much.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35

I dare say that Jesus would not use crass language and such a derisive tone regarding this clearly troubled man. It is not up to us to judge, we leave that to God. We should be praying for him and showing God’s love through compassion and kindness.
