Jim Carrey‘s Daughter Tries Out for ’American Idol’…and Makes It

When the “American Idol” judges heard Jane’s voice, they had to put her through to Hollywood. Her audition, in which she sang “Something to Talk About,” was excellent. But that’s not the whole story. See, Jane isn’t just plain Jane — she’s actually Jane Carrey, daughter of comedian Jim.
During last night’s special episode of the popular talent show, the country was introduced to Jane during a “meet the contestants” type segment. She talked about living in her dad’s shadow, and the producers even revealed her status in a clever way. Then she surprised them when she revealed she was more than just a celebrity’s daughter. Here’s the audition:
And here’s how one critic described it:
The aforementioned daughter of Jim, Jane talked wistfully about living in her famous father’s shadow and how difficult it was for her to establish her own identity as a performer. At first I was slightly turned off by this; I mean, after seasons of single parents, widowers, orphans, illness and accident survivors, struggling artists living out of cars (or tents), etc., “My dad is an A-list millionaire actor” didn’t seem like a very heartstring-tugging sob story. But then Jane sang, and all was forgiven. Her soulful cover of Bonnie Raitt’s “Something To Talk About” showed raw promise, and when she called her dad after she got her golden ticket and he sounded so elated and supportive, it warmed my heart. I was dumb and dumber to doubt this girl. (Heh.)

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 4:52pmThis story is more appreciable if you know Jim Carrey’s beginnings. The man started with nothing and was scraping out a living out of his car before getting noticed. Jim knows what its like to bust his butt to succeed and he has obviously passed these values on to his daughter. Jim is a class act.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 4:50pmnice story line, decent voice, did not present good performance skills this audition, maybe she’s got them, but that remains to be seen.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 2:41pmI would also like to point out that anyone who is hating on her as Jim’s kid… by default, Jane has more tangible skills and talent than any Kardashian or Paris Hilton… If Kim can make $30 million a year by being dumb on TV, let’s give Jane a chance since she at least sounds humble and Jim has always seemed to be a genuinely nice person. Can it be any worse than people like Snooki making millions…

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 12:46pmShe wasn’t good enough to cut it without being a celeb daughter. Definitely not top tier vocal, but who you are pulls more weight than talent in this world.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 1:47pmDude, she’s a cute girl and her voice is definitely there to make it past round one… get over it. If she wanted to use daddy to make it she wouldn’t go through American Idol, they take your life over as a musician, you didn’t see Miley Cyrus on Idol, or Will Smith’s kids on any talent show… if Jim wanted to hook her up, he could, and you would just see her CD in stores.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 2:53pmShe should‘ve just used her dad’s connections. I doubt she makes it to the top 5. She might make it a few weeks, but once they start thinning the herd, she’ll be eliminated.
@Surfin: Maybe. It’s also possible that Jim Carrey wants her to try this route first. If she doesn’t make it, he can still pull strings and get her a gig. Yes, she is cute, but her voice is nothing to write home about. She doesn’t have a stellar voice like some previous contestants where you heard them and thought “wow, that person is goooood!”. She dressed normal and has a decent enough voice to get to Hollywood with the current judges and if anyone else were her dad, she probably wouldn’t have been pushed through.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 12:39pmTo be fair, Randy called her out on it or she probably wouldn’t have metioned it. She seems like a very down to earth gal despite growing up the daughter of a celebrity. Jim must be a pretty good dad!

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 12:07pmWell the fact that she worked as a waitress tells me she did not grow up with a silver spoon in her mouth and knows about a good honest day’s work. She does have a good voice and as Steven Tyler said is weak and needs refinement. I think we will see a difference when she gets music added. Some people can’t always sing well without music, but add music and WOW. Time will tell.
Best of luck to her.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 11:12amPersonally, the fact that she’s been working as a waitress on and off for six years impresses me far more than her voice does. I don‘t know if I’d ever be willing to work such a mundane job if my father was as fabulously rich and famous as her’s is.
Jim Carrey has always impressed me and I can see that he must be an excellent father as well as an excellent actor. And yes, he IS an excellent actor as well as a goofy comedian. If you don’t believe me then try watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 10:58amI watched it and think she did well. She will go for a bit but will get cut in Hollywood. If she was relying on her name, she wouldn‘t try out there and her dad would’ve come with her. He can walk her in the front door of any record mogul he wants to. I live out here and do business in Hollywood, I know a few of those folks in leftie-loonieville and I’ve never herd that about Jim Carey. I wish her well.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 7:44amI think that has something to do with her father. I mean growing up with a comedian makes you learn to not get caught up and stressed out on things unless they are really important or sensitive.
I mean, I‘ve been dealing with my father who thinks he’s a comedian for the last 33 years. I‘ll be sad when the day comes that I don’t get to hear some new joke, even if it wasn’t that funny.

Posted on January 23, 2012 at 9:24amNot because of your comment….I have been thinking about watching the DVD of “Its a mad, mad, mad, mad world”, when the state of union speech is going on. Every character in this movie reminds me of the current administration. Most liberals make the movies and it is a WEALTH of information. What’s on the tube, the variety of programs, you are just watching your FELLOW-HUMAN-BEINGS doing the good, the bad and the ugly and if one is still breathing, be observant! Reading on a variety of subjects one also learns about their fellow-human-beings if you choose not to watch or even have a tv. I have a very dear friend who won‘t own a tv and our phone conversations last several hours because she is thirsty for the news but won’t own a tv. Her choice, but she asks many questions because she has 4 grandchildren and she gets very concerned, when I tell her the tv news, Good for you and your choice because looking at the cable bill, I’m thinking with that money, I could be buying more ammunition. JUST KIDDING!
