Jimmy Buffett OK After Scary Stage Fall Knocks Him Out

SYDNEY (The Blaze/AP) — U.S. singer Jimmy Buffett left hospital on Thursday, a day after he fell off a stage at the end of a Sydney concert and was knocked unconscious, Australian television reported.

Buffett departed St. Vincent’s Hospital in inner Sydney via a back entrance to avoid the media after doctors gave him the all-clear on Thursday morning, Ten Network television reported.

Medical staff said the singer had suffered a head injury, but added he was in good spirits and lucky to have recovered so quickly from the fall at Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday night.

Witnesses attending his show described hearing a “crack” as Buffett’s head hit the floor following an encore performance of his song “Lovely Cruise.”

“He really took a very nasty tumble,” the hospital’s emergency department director Gordian Fulde, who attended the concert, told Seven Network television.

“He just didn’t see the drop in front of the stage,” Fulde said.

“I heard the ‘crack’ and I thought: ‘This guy has broken his neck,’” he added.

Fulde, who is also a surgeon, rushed to the aid of the 64-year-old entertainer.

“He had a head injury and he lost consciousness … (but) scans show that he’s OK,” Fulde told Seven Network.

Buffett lay on the floor in front of the first row of seating waiting for paramedics and an ambulance to arrive, and he was rushed to hospital half an hour later.

The Margaritaville singer had performed on Sunday and Monday to sold-out crowds at Sydney’s Opera House, and the Wednesday concert was tacked on in response to demand.

“We’ve had an unfortunate incident, but the show’s over so if you could move along that would be very, very cool, thank you,” the audience was told after the accident.

A message posted on Buffett’s website said he was doing well.

“As you probably already know, Jimmy had an accident while performing in Sydney last night and was taken to the hospital,” the statement said.

“The doctors say he is doing well … More info as we get it, and thank you for all of your well-wishes!”

Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band had not performed in Australia for 20 years, The Daily Telegraph said, and had promised to return in 2012.

Everything that could have been said has already been said on this post. I like ole Jimmy. Funny he is both liberal and conservative. Depends on the subject. Mostly he is just Jimmy. So on a different front, I hate that little pop out on the right that says Next Story. I wish they would get rid of it. It is irritating. I read which ever next story I want. It’s like the Government telling me which story I have to read next. Oh well, might as well get use to it.

Saw him in Vegas in October. Incredibly fun concert…everyone dressed up in parrot costumes, pirates, fins….and where else can I go as a 50 year old and be the youngest person in the audience? LOL!
The great thing for me however was, unlike several other performers I’ve seen, Jimmy injected ZERO politics into his show which was much appreciated. A great night was had by both sides of the isle.

He just joined the exclusive club of people falling off of stages and down. I think Steve Tyler joined the group a couple years back. Pink also fell off a stage. Scott Weiland from STP also took a spill off a stage last year. Gene Simmons took a spill at a airport.

On the political front Hill Clinton falls almost every year, The pope fell two years ago, SC Justice Scalia fell on Vaca. Sonia Sotomayor took a fall right before she was confimed.

    Crap Happens.

Lol He is one of the richest musicians in the world with an empire that includes restaurants, bars, casinos, many products as well as a brand of beer (landshark lager) and several items found in your local grocery store like Margaritaville shrimp (the lime shrimp are awesome). Owns his own record label etc….Why retire when you are having fun and you are still playing to sold out audiences everywhere you go?

Without Liberals, we wouldn’t have as much music or “art.” Though, some of us use both sides of our brain and can play music as well as be conservative.

Kind of agree. Though what passes for art these days leaves me wanting most of the time, regardless of the politics of the artist. That said, my favorite group is The Dropkick Murphies, who are true blue pro-union types and most likely share 0.0 fiscal values with me, and they rock out loud (so does Flogging Molly). My favorite individual artist (modern) is Kid Rock, who shares just about all of my values, and whose down home “take no sh*t” attitude I find a joy. Politics just can’t come into play, unless the artists are making politics a part of their art.

Given my druthers (oh, if only I were ever given my druthers) I’d love to see Epic level artists emerge in our modern age, our own version of a Renoir or a modern as artistically magnificent as a Rodin or a Monet, or a musical modern version of Mozart or Vivaldi. Alas…

A lot of “famous” people are dork hats when they’re not on stage. Most of them sell an image, not a reality, but a lot of us kind of believe that the image reflects their reality and are often disappointed to find out the opposite.

He got it from the people who made it political fairly quickly into the commentary on the article. While I don’t share his disdain for the Blaze, objectively speaking he has a point. There is no reason to make this a political discussion, or rather, a discussion that revolves around Buffets politics, as it has nothing to do with his politics, but rather his lack of critical balancing skills. :)
