Jimmy Carter Uses North Korea Visit to Accuse U.S. of ‘Human Rights Violation’

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said Thursday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Il wants direct talks with South Korea’s leader — an offer unlikely to be accepted until Pyongyang takes responsibility for violence that killed 50 South Koreans last year.
Carter didn’t address the case of Jun Young Su, a Korean-American being held in North Korea, reportedly on charges of carrying out missionary activity. He had said earlier he would not raise the case, though the former president flew to North Korea last year to free another American jailed in Pyongyang.Carter started Thursday‘s news conference by offering condolences for those killed in last year’s attacks, an apparent nod to criticism that he had glossed over the deaths in past dealings with the North.
But he also likely angered many in Seoul and Washington by criticizing their food aid policies.
Carter said that for the United States and South Korea “to deliberately withhold food aid to the North Korean people because of political or military issues not related is really indeed a human rights violation.”

Posted on April 28, 2011 at 3:29pmAccording to past reports, N Korea gives most of their food aid to their military and the rest of the country just goes without. If the North would allow aid groups in to monitor food distribution, more food might be made available to the country. The death of one person from starvation is one too many. My heart goes out to the North Korean people. They are cluesless about the world and how their leader is causing all their suffering.

Posted on April 28, 2011 at 3:28pmI didn’t think we could have a worse President in this country then Jimmy Carter! He was so bad and very hard to top, but Obama has done that! Under the peanut farmer, we were paying 18% interest rate of the mortgage of our house in Detroit area. You couldn’t cross the line between the town we lived in and Detroit as police were scarce and unemployment was so high! The state fairgrounds became the depository for all the new cars being built but no one wanted them. Robbery in the city was rampant! Have never been so frightened in my life then my 18 months living in Detroit area. Jimmy Carter would sit by the fireside in his rocking chair wearing a sweater telling us we had to be patient as things would get better—they only got worse! We moved out of there as fast as we could and couldn’t have been more relieved!

Posted on April 28, 2011 at 3:15pmRefusing to prop up a brutal dictator is not a human rights violation. Funny how a military state that has plenty of money to spend on weapons will not buy food. Funny how China NK’s biggest trading partner escapes criticism for not sending food.
It‘s sad how Jimmy Carter’s failed presidency has turned him into a embittered anti-American hack. It’s also amazing how all you have to do is start America bashing, and its free airline tickets and lunches galore.

It was a sad day for America when Jimmy Carter left the peanut fields of Georgia to enter Washington DC politics. It‘s a shame he didn’t go into business with his brother Billy in his “ Billy Beer ” enterprise. Billy was the more honest of the two brothers, he didn’t deny the fact that he was a JERK and A JOKE. But of course he wasn’t the President of the USA,. they have to deny or lie about almost everything.
All countries have their embarassing politicians and America isn’t an exception because we have Jimmy Carter. A comparison of good US Presidents is usually made to Ronald Reagen, bad ones are compared to Jimmy ( the peanut ) Carter. What a legacy. The word ” peanut ‘ is used to refer to the size his brain and not to his agricultural ability.

His main mission was to appease every dictator he could kiss. Jimmuh wouldn’t want you to remember that he caused the skyrocketing price of gas. There would be one problem, though, that they would likely notice. There would still be a shortage of food there since communism just doesn’t work. Therefore we would need to act quickly to pull this off before word gets back that they are begging for food. That might scare off a few communists before we could clear them all out. Report Post »When you are Mr. Carter’s age people start pouring accolades your way. People hear ALL that you have done and are awed. They say things like ,WOW! What a long and productive, inspiring life you have led, yadda, yadda.
In Mr. Carters case people say …,well he lived.

Posted on April 28, 2011 at 8:01pmRose-Ellen,
As any Christian knows, anyone who denigrates the chosen people of God does not understand the Gospel. Nothing good comes to one who attacks his people.
And anyone who makes claims like Carter did, against his own country, one where freedoms are given to them on the backs of people who have fought for them and sacrificed their lives, has no character, no true understanding of the Lord and what He has provided for us all. You can try and use your shallow understanding of Christianity against us, I being a Deacon in the church and one who has studied his word for years, won’t be so easily fooled. You should know even the Devil knows scripture as he tried to use it deceive Jesus in the desert.
Mathew 4:5-7;
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]”
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’

Posted on April 28, 2011 at 9:10pmWhat spews from Carter’s mouth is sounding more and more like treason as he gets older. How shameful that he was a president and now seeks to destroy the country that he once served. By denouncing America, he is aiding and abetting our enemies. His sanctimonious, self-serving comments are disgusting to listen to. Doesn’t he realize that if his version of America is so bad, then he is to blame as well? He personally ran the country for 4 years (and ran it into the ground). Now he is running our reputation into the ground….and we are paying him a wonderful pension to do so!

Posted on April 28, 2011 at 11:48pmAlthough a Democrat, and favor discussion between North and South Korea, I think Carter is barking up the wrong tree (and I agree, he should retire).
The country of North Korea, the entire country is dedicated to one purpose: to keep Kim Jong Il. The military, media (such as it is), school system and the history they teach, the trade, the government both local and national, the culture, the images on the wall of every house (of Kim Jong), the art, the statues, everything, serve the single purpose of keeping this one person in power. It is the realization of the government in 1984. I hope and believe North Korea can be contained, but the only negotiation with them is one that will keep Kim Jong Il, or his son, in power. There is nothing else in North Korea to negotiate around.
Give them food? I don’t think so.
Speaking of 1984, my avatar, for those of you who keep up, is not Marx (who had a beard, not a goatee) is Emmanuel Goldstein from the movie 1984. He was the Jewish author of The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism and leader of the Brotherhood and secret group whose plan was to overthrow the country, someone much like Glenn’s description of George Soros. I thought it was appropriate for this website. In the book, all citizens were required to participate in “two minutes of hate” against Goldstein, much like you here who have to participate in several minutes of hate each day to distract you from your real problems.

To let this ridiculous old man out there running his mouth is hardly a favorable commentary on the US or Jimmy Carter. He just keeps adding insult to injury, pleased, I’m sure, that he is no longer considered the worst US president in history.

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 1:07pmCarter’s either sulking because of the total breakdown of the one accomplishment during his administration, the Camp David Accords, or he is just so upset because he is losing his number one ranking as America’s worse President that he might be able to solidify his hold on the infamous honor by courting a worse leader than he, Kim Jong Il.
