Tuesday on Morning Joe, during the opening segment, Joe Scarborough appears to “lose it” — meaning he yells “tell the truth” and flails his arms — while discussing Medicare reform and Paul Ryan’s viability as a Presidential or Vice Presidential candidate. Harold Ford Jr. gets caught in the crosshairs.
They are not serving decaf on the set of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 11:08amJoe was right. Like it or not we cannot sustain Medicare or Social Security at the present rate. The “terrible” plan put forward by Ryan basically is that everyone 50 or 55 years old or younger will have to wait until they are 70 until they can start getting benefits. The Democrats response is the “throw granny over the cliff” commercial and demagoging the whole thing. If you listen to them all that has to be done is raise taxes on the “rich”. That is what they mean by “means testing”. It would be entirely possible that the ones who have paid into those programs the most would get nothing back. It also means that if you have a retirement plan from where you work it will be deducted from whatever you are entitled to from Social Security. This will include 401k plans. The end result is that if during your working life you have put as much as you possible could into your 401K you will be penalized for those who put aside nothing. We already live in a society were nearly 1/2 of the workers pay Federal Income Taxes and the other 1/2 do not. Here’s a shock, how about taking at least a little responsibility for supporting yourself. Stop expecting someone else to cover for you. Unfortunately we have the Democrats who are much more interested in getting political gain then they are in trying to solve a problem that very well might lead to the collapse of our economy. That is one of many reasons I view liberals and Democrats with such disdain and disgust.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 12:15pmExactly, means testing for social security will be the final nail in the coffin. If by saving in my 401k I reduce the return I might get on my social security taxes, it‘s certainly tempting to simply stop contributing to my 401k and spend what’s there now. Then I’ll get my social security, of course it will fail and we’ll all get nothing. Just like more taxes on the rich…and middle class. I work hard to barely have more than the guy next to me who doesn’t work at all. When they come for more of my money with even higher taxes, my solution will be many worker’s solutions; We’ll just stop working and stop pulling the wagon and jump on it instead. The entitlement society is the death of us all.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 12:07pmBaikonur’s comment: “You do realize that the rest of the world equates Fox News / Glenn /Rush, etc, with the Jerry Springer Show, right?” —— Actually, no I did not realize that, but thanks for the information. On another matter —– You do realize the rest of the world (and the USA) are mostly filled with agnostics and lukewarm Christians who live their lives as though God does not matter? You do realize there is a heaven, hell and purgatory, too right? You do realize when you die all your “brilliant‘ political ideas for changing world and saving us all from sorrow won’t amount to nothing more than a pile of sand, and how you lived your life will determine EVERYTHING for how you spend eternity? So when you tell me that Europeans or whomever think Fox News is no different than Jerry Springer, it says to me these Europeans are missing the boat on the more important things in life altogether —- like who is God and why are we here. And that makes me feel very sad, if not frightened.

Did you dorks ever talk to anybody in medicare? the gov’t pays hardly nothing if you have a 100 dollar bill they may pay 15 to 20 bucks you still need another plan to help pay the diff. and that is costing seniors big money cause they are not getting anything from the gov’t.

Report Post »Medicare pays 80% of the cost of Part B services, which covers Doctors services. If the service was $100, Medicare pays $80, you (or your supplemental insurance ) would pay $20. Some doctors do not accept Medicare rates as full payment and charge up to 15% more than what medicare deems as full payment. In that case you or your insurance would be responsible for that.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 11:39amScarborough is right. If you’re going to stake your ground and tell the truth that entitlements are growing at rate that is far greater than the economy as a whole, and that the rate of growth must be slowed, then you have to be ready to defend and explain that. When you run and hide as soon as a Dem predictably decries that you want to steal healthcare from Seniors you‘ll look like you’re stealing healthcare from Seniors. Even Dick Morris came running out that Newt was right and Republican Pres. candidates must also run from Ryan to avoid scaring Seniors. When did Seniors transform from “The Greatest Generation” to scared, frail people too uneducated to understand anything.
Ryan’s Plan preserves the current Medicare System for anyone currently 55 years old or older. It also provides for an alternative system to help 54 year olds and those younger with premium subsidies for private Insurance Plans that have yet to be designed. Insurers will have 10 years to write and design plans and compete with one another for the business of every American. This IS the type of plan Republicans have been calling for. State Mandates would fall away and insurers would only need to comply with Federal Mandates (the way Medicare does today) which are less demanding than State Ins. laws. This system could work. There is time to perfect it. But that is only true if our guys are willing to fight the fight and win the argument.
