Ex-National Review Writer Argues for White Supremacy Using…Progressive Talking Points?

Former National Review Writer John Derbyshire Doubles Down on Racist Statements

John Derbyshire, who was fired last month from National Review over his controversial article “The Talk: Nonblack Version,” may be more of a racist than anyone even realized at the time.

In April, he wrote up a list of so-called lessons he had learned, which he would supposedly pass on to his son.  “Avoid concentrations of all blacks not known to you personally,” he advised, and “Do not attend events likely to draw a lot of blacks.”

Derbyshire’s comments were condemned as “nasty and indefensible,” but his most recent article– where he discusses the merits of white supremacy and white nationalism on what the Southern Poverty Law Center has deemed a “White Nationalist” website– are much worse.

In his first proper article since being fired from National Review (aside from those thanking his supporters), Derbyshire wrote on VDARE:

The enemies of conservatism are eager to supply their own nomenclature. “White Supremacist” seems to be their current favorite. It is meant maliciously, of course, to bring up images of fire-hoses, attack dogs, pick handles, and segregated lunch counters—to imply that conservatives, especially non-mainstream conservatives, are cruel people with dark thoughts.

Leaving aside the intended malice, I actually think “White Supremacist” is not bad semantically. White supremacy, in the sense of a society in which key decisions are made by white Europeans, is one of the better arrangements History has come up with. There have of course been some blots on the record, but I don’t see how it can be denied that net-net, white Europeans have made a better job of running fair and stable societies than has any other group.

He continued, talking about why there are so few conservatives that are minorities:

It’s just that conservative ideals like self-sufficiency and minimal dependence on government have no appeal to underperforming minorities—groups who, in the statistical generality, are short of the attributes that make for group success in a modern commercial nation.

Of what use would it be to them to embrace such ideals?  They would end up even more decisively pooled at the bottom of society than they are currently. [Emphasis added]

Many of his other comments, like: “Conservatism…is a white people’s movement, a scattering of outliers notwithstanding,” seem to be straight out of the mouth of an MSNBC guest in describing the Tea Party or conservatives.  Indeed, Derbyshire is almost becoming the stereotypical racist right-winger, whom many thought only existed in the dreams of Keith Olbermann.

It doesn‘t seem like a coincidence that one of Derbyshire’s most explicitly racist essays is packaged with a very explicit request for donations. It seems Derbyshire has discovered one of the benefits of turning off lots of mainstream readers by writing a racist essay about advising his kids to avoid black people is that it earns the loyalty of a smaller number of racist readers who will pay money for more racist stuff.

Perhaps reinforcing the Atlantic’s theory, the top of Derbyshire’s article reads:

John Derbyshire has begun his second round of chemotherapy since being fired from National Review, but we are delighted to say he was able to write this column for us this after emerging from his first day of treatment, a Stakhanovite performance.

But resounding condemnation of the man has not stopped progressive outlets from using Derbyshire’s latest article in an effort to connect white supremacy to Derbyshire’s former associates at National Review. Think Progress leads the charge by noting this near the end of its article:

As a reminder, this man who now openly praises a racial caste system wrote for one of the nation’s top conservative publications for nearly 12 years.

True.  But he doesn’t write for them anymore, and someone should tell ThinkProgress that it’s a bad idea to throw stones from glass houses. After all, liberal outlets have had to fire people for racist sentiments before, too.

      Race Supremacy is an element of most Statist (Leftist) ideologies. Islam, Marxist derivatives – Communism, Socialism, National Socialism, Lenninism all have racist or ethnic purity messages. The classism often substitutes, but these are all different ways of scapegoating and saying “Those guys over there suck, let‘s get’em!”

      But you’re pointing out a “chicken and the egg” set of facts. Are blacks and Hispanics more often living in poorer conditions because they’re somehow objectively inferior, OR is it because of an inequality of opportunity resulting from decades of systematic racism we’ve only begun to disassemble? Frankly, I think the latter is a more compelling argument.

      vox_populi: it is very easy to blame society for short-comings but I think it does ignore a lot of history. The Irish, the Italians, the Chinese, and on and on, got over the prejudice. Excellence is always in demand. Teaching youth to “game the system”, take all you can, don‘t study because then you are playing the white mans’ game… you think these ideas don’t have an effect on keeping this sub-culture down? Our limitations in life are 99% internal, meaning we place our own limitations on ourselves. However, I don’t expect liberals, even successful white ones, to understand or agree.

      Actually monkey, your basic premise is incorrect. Spend 30 seconds looking up Nazism and Socialism and you’ll find that they are diametrically opposed. Nazis used the word because it was prominent at the time, like you conservatives using Family in the title of your hate groups. Now, I know you think the Dictionary is liberally biased, along with air, gravity, and everything above 9th grade algebra, but you are in fact, idiots.     The parasite race will accelerate their hate this summer by flash mobbing neighbor hoods. They will hit the wrong neighborhood where they will meet a group of neighbors prepared for this very action. They will be met with force as if they just stepped off a chopper in the middle east. Once this happens just once it will be on….the parasite race will not stop unless stopped. They have preached hate from generation to generation blaming all others for their inability to know their role … inferior. History has proven this to be true and they have been riding the coat tails of the Anglo for way to long. We will see how this all plays out, but I have never heard so many talk and expect collapse/civil war. When it comes to sides and you have to pick, we will see libs begging to join the side which can live in a civil manner to create livable society.

    Look at the facts in the current world we live in…United States and Europe: areas that are predominately white, educated, have freedom, successful, forward thinking, charitable, caring, and giving. The US and Europe have pockets of areas that are non-white, and those areas, are riddled with crime, destitute, drugs, poverty. Now look at Africa, Central America, and the Middle East: areas that are predominately non-white, poor, live in poverty, no freedoms, crime ridden, drugs, no education that have pockets of areas inhabited by whites, and those areas are educated, successful, forward thinking, charitable, caring, and giving

    I know this story is like playing with fire, but … I read statements from a man who is not afraid to ruffle feathers anymore, regardless of how politically incorrect (regardless of reason) his ideas are.
    As far as his advice to his son, I understand where he’s coming from, and it doesn’t have to be “all blacks are dangerous,” you just have to be aware of your surroundings no matter where in the world you are, and if you stand out, watch out.
    The bit about white Europeans being more successful than other cultures or races … well… Even in 2012, people who live in the temperate latitudes and north are generally more industrialized (and industrious) than those in the tropical latitudes. Check out Mark Kurlansky’s book, “Salt.” It is a very interesting history of the role of salt production and use in the development of cultures as it provides a means to preserve food for future use. Aaaanyway, I don’t see how it is “racist,” as we understand and use the term, to point out cultural characteristics that have reasonable, logical, historical explanations.

    @Sawbuck and others called me a whining liberal last week, let’s see if an unemotional intellectual exercise can make people call me a Nazi racist now.

      You make an excellent point about geography and natural resources. If mankind had different migratory patterns thousands of years ago, we may have seen a black Europe and a white Africa. America would have been colonized by blacks and white folk would be in the same living conditions as the African countries.

      If you want to see a perfect example of this look at equatorial South America. A continent full of Europeans (Spanish and Portuguese) who have not been able to develop due to a comfortable climate, small amounts of natural resources (mainly due to the rainforests and the poor farmland potential there) and equatorial diseases.

      It all comes down to disease, climate, and natural resources, NOT SKIN COLOR!

      OWS, while perpetually ignorant and misled with tendancies toward violent outbursts only seem to be dangerous to those they deem rich and they have yet to actually harm any of them. They do draw more than their fair share of rapists, strangely enough, but that’s probably because their large crowds and stench can cover for them. They don’t seem to be racially motivated is the point. Large crowds of African-Americans who have never been to Africa and lack the ability to point it out on a map do, however, seem to be eager to harm anyone with a paler skin tone.

      Excellent post. I read this many years ago in school,. It is probably the only thing Darwin ever wrote that I totally agree with. I‘m sure they won’t ever let this be published in any textbook these days, It still holds true today but would never be allowed in any kind of debate.

      The truth be told, white folk need to avoid large crowds of blacks as Derbyshire’s previous article pointed out. Maybe that is racist, but it is also true. The sad thing is that the liberal ideology has taken an entire race hostage and convinced them that they can’t make it without govt. handouts.       Exactly! Folks are quick to call the author a racist, and miss his point entirely. Nothing Mr. Derbyshire said was anti-black, mean or hateful. Everything he said is factual and true. If I am wrong on what I just read, please point out the errors in his article. I think his explanation for why there are so few minority conservatives is completely accurate. This is a sad time in our history when we cannot discuss issues due to political correctness. We do so at our own peril.

      I look out across the political landscape and I see more black racism than white racism. I keep track of both. I have to since I have mixed race kids.

      I have kn ow a lot of white people that have a nephew, niece or grand kid that is 1/2 1/2. To be racist in white community is detrimental, but not in large segments of black community.

      I also see the Obama, Jesse Jackson, the Clintons et al making common political cause, but I don’t see them inter marrying. They are that racist.

    Derbyshire’s “outing” is not an isolated incident. In fact the anti-white backlash is becoming more evident each and every month.

    Many of the forums on MSM web sites and especially, conservative ones, reveal a growing anger among whites that is reaching critical mass….and…please believe me, I’m not exaggerating.

    National Review had better loosen up its butt-kissing of the leftist media or it’s going to be going belly up for want of a following that believes it avoids telling the truth.

      Sorry RLTW what is evident by your response is that you don’t know the meaning of the word Fascist. For that matter, I don’t know if you even really know what the meaning of the conservative label either.

      What John Derbyshire wrote is his opinion, though it did contain a number of facts.Nothing that he said had ANYTHING to do with either conservatism or fascism. It did have a bit to do with historical data concerning which cultures have been constructive in advancing the living conditions of their members versus those which have been destructive of it. It does not discuss political or economic systems, only the cultures themselves. While it separates the cultures by race, that is not what needs to be looked at. What needs to be looked at is the differences in the cultures.

    I tip my hat to white Europeans. If it wasn’t for them there would not be an America, the best nation on Earth! White Europeans civilized most of the world and I see that as a good thing. And for the blaqs that, although they have never been a slave, harbor a deep seated anger at America. I say they should feel grateful that there was slaves in America. Not that slavery is a good thing, we all know better, but it allowed those decendants of slaves born here are reaping all the benefits of being an American while their ancestors did all the work and sacrifice. So, they should pay homage to their ancestors and stop all the whinning and amount to something so all their suffering was not in vain.

      I don’t see that statement as anything but a statement of fact. To call it anything else would come only from those who have been mentally conditioned to feel intimidated by admitting that Europeans have contributed more modernity and advancement to the world than any other groups to date, or from those who hate European Americans, which amounts to quite a few nowadays.

      Sorry, but if those same types who love to boast about black pride, latino pride, gay pride and the like don‘t like me or anyone else talking about white pride they can shove it where the sun doesn’t shine, especially since it is every single one of those groups that are racists to the core.

      We are the greatest nation there’s ever been. True, the Europeans civilized this country but, it was built on slave labor. There’s no doubt that slavery sucks!

      I’m just saying there is a huge amount of credit that needs to go to those poor, beaten and oft times mistreated, slaves who did the majority of the hard work and manual labor.

      True also that Americans today who happen to be Black, are NOT owed a single thing!

      Except, the rest of us finally acknowledging that we wouldn‘t be the world’s Greatest Nation without the forced labor of their Slave ancestors 140-220 years ago.

      Don’t let facts like these get in the way of a good story. Where are the most successful, loving, caring, giving people in the world? in locations where whites pretty much started, dominate, and run everything: the United States, Europe, Canada, and different countries throughout South America. Where is the most poverty, hate, selfishness, drugs, and crime? Africa, Middle East, Central and S. America, and sections of Asia. Now look at pockets within those successful countries…the United States for example….pockets of ghettos and non-white areas have what the second set of countries I listed have: poverty, hate, selfishness, drugs, and crime. Now look at an area like South Africa, before blacks took over they had many successful, loving, caring, giving people in the world.

      This isn’t rocket science….but the problem is, no one wants to talk about it….it is viewed as racist to even discuss these facts. Listen to that…racist to discuss facts….only in this messed up period of time we currently live in

      Americans built this country – Europeans have not run any successful country unless you claim England as part fo the continent. Even the English have never been the equal of Americans. Claiming Europe is in some way responsible for American greatness is denying American uniqueness and American superiority over Europe.

      Slaves did practically nothing but work Southern plantations. Actually, they didn’t build anything of any consequence, and they were but a wee fraction of the population.

      The vast bulk of the labor that built this country….far and away greater than any other group….were Europeans. That anybody would not know that is amazing.

      And, not only did they build it from the ground up they settled and farmed the land and turned it into the bread basket of the world, venturing into unchartered areas where there were no doctors, no hospitals, no police, and they could rely on nothing and nobody but themselves.

      I am a regular Blaze reader & have mixed race children. I am also sick of liberals like yourself coming to this forum & trying to stir crap up. But there is a remedy for that.

      Seems to me if the incidents at the Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota state fairs & other such incident shad not happened, there would have been no Derbyshire column. You might have forgotten that or assigned it no weight, but many people have not forgotten.

      Question: Which came 1st Derbyshire or the gangs at the state fairs & the beaches?

      No racebaiting by Jesse Jackson & the rest, things were or would be getting better. I don’t see David Duke in the news or getting traction. I do see Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton in the news & getting traction.

      I don’t see whites as racist. I look at who they marry, people of all races. With a 100,000 inter racial marriages a year you can’t tell me that whites are by & large racist more racists than black community. I look at the black community I don’t see Clarence Thomas, Sowell, Cosby, Walter Williams or others held up as a role models. I see Rev Wright, Al Sharpton (drug dealer: on film & race baiter: Tawana Brawley), Jesse Jackson, Louis Farahkhan & others held up as role models by liberals. for every White racists you can hold up, I can hold up a black racists who is more prominent & is given more air time by the Democrats.

      White racists? Very few places where i would be afraid for my kids because of white racists. there are a lot of places I would be afraid for my kids by black racists or people who learned form them.

      Your logic is a bit skewed, my friend. The parallels you draw are not valid and illustrate only that you have been mentally conditioned to regard racism as our greatest problem, nothing else.

      You’re absolutely consumed with the concept of “racism,” and have obviously been thoroughly programmed to believe it to be the greatest evil of all time, not understanding that the term was coined strictly as a political ploy….mostly by Cultural Marxists from the Frankfort School….. to intimidate whites in order to weaken the white power structure in this country. Classism has ALWAYS been a far greater problem.

      Too, keep in mind, that telling the truth has nothing to do with racism.

      I think people should take a closer look at what Derbyshire is actually saying. I know it’s hard to do b/c we’re so accustomed to seeing racism behind every corner. Try not to conflate his points about statistical generalities with racism toward individuals. Maybe you should be arguing about the usefulness of statistical generalities instead.

      I personally am sick and tired of color being a point of topic on any issue. It shouldn’t matter. If it’s an issue of crime, crime is crime no matter the color. Poverty? It sucks no matter your color. Unemployment? Sucks no matter your color. Gas prices? Sucks no matter color. Food Prices? Suck no matter your color. I am sick of every story that needs to point at race, religion, sex, financial status, marital status, age or political affiliation to address basic problems that affect us all. It diverts the conversation from the problems and solutions.

      I hope not. Once you go down that road it takes decades, perhaps centuries for those rifts and wounds to heal. If ever.

      If white people are forced to form groups in order to protect themselves from “other” groups. It becomes a continuous spiral of escalation. You can depend on it. It becomes the law of the feud, only everyone’s involved.

      Other than a complete seperation of the groups, there is no remedy except for total war. Or an outside neutral party of sufficient power intervening, and forcing a peace. (which there are none)

      It becomes an engine of hate that you would have to see to believe, and it captures everyone.

      Were you appalled by the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo? Does the continuous tragedy in Rawanda chill your blood?
      That stuff is child’s play compared to what would happen in the US, if a race war ever really got going. The only groups of sufficient size, influence, and is common to all races would be the Church, and they would have to move fast. After a few months it would unstoppable.
