John Kerry: ‘This Is the Tea Party Downgrade’

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) continued his attack on the Tea Party on Sunday, calling Standard & Poor’s Friday downgrade of the U.S. credit rating “the Tea Party downgrade.”

Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the former presidential candidate said the Tea Party was at fault after its members held up the negotiation process and refused to get on board with plans on the table.

“I believe this is without question the Tea Party downgrade,” Kerry said. “This is the Tea Party downgrade because a minority of people in the House of Representatives countered even the will of many Republicans in the United States Senate who were prepared to do a bigger deal, to do $4.7 trillion or $4 trillion, have a mix of reductions and reforms in social security, Medicare, Medicaid, but also recognize that we needed to do some revenue.”

Last week, Kerry blasted the Tea Party and said its members don’t “deserve” equal time or balance in the media because their ideas are not “legitimate.”

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) responded to Kerry’s comments, defending the Tea Party’s refusal to sign on and blaming President Barack Obama for a “failure to lead” during the debt crisis.

“The fact is the president never came forward with a plan,“ McCain said ”There was never a specific plan, there was as always the so-called leading from behind.”

Still, the former Republican presidential candidate said “we could have reached an agreement a lot earlier,” but Tea Party members elected last fall had an obligation to follow through on their campaign promises.

“Members of the House of Representatives had a mandate last November, it was jobs and the economy and it was spending,” he said. “For them to agree to tax and spending increases was obviously a repudiation of the mandate they felt they have from last November.”

    I can’t help but laugh whenever I hear Kerry speak . How could anyone take anything this tool says seriously ? He’s like a goofy cartoon character. McCain time to hang it up ,well past time. Why do we keep electing these bozos year after year and expect a different result .

      I truly believe that people would rather live in misery and complain about it than seek their own happiness. I read all kinds of comments about how our Gov. is failing us and how it’s affecting the rest of the world. ..Now that our AAA rating has been downgraded other nations are getting together to decide if the USA is still #1 and how they will deal…
      Not once have I read or heard of an Impeachment process being put into place. Instead I’m hearing another four years. STOP complaining or DO something to make your future happier. Get rid of this administration! Mr. Obama needs to be ousted and George Soros’s citizenship needs to be revoked on the grounds that he did not honor his oath to protect the Constitution but rather is working to destroy it. Wake up or shut up!
      As for the rest of our politicians-they need not be politicians but Americans putting America and our people first and their politics very last or they’re out too.

      I watched this circus. They all sounded so clueless that is was embarrassing. And then Greenspan tried to sound like he knew a thing or two. Dear God. That whole round table was a hard thing to sit through and watch because they just do not know what is going on in reality.

      I don’t think everybody realizes how utterly stupid so many of our leaders are; well, maybe not stupid, but so terribly misinformed with very little knowledge about topics they supposedly are experts at. It’s been this way for nearly 20 years. It’s another unintended consequence of progressivism – you wind up with people in charge of areas they have no business being in because they don’t inherently understand it. I just hope this doesn’t cross over from politics into things like aviation, engineering, medicine, etc., where it’s not so easily masked.

      The Tea Party is at fault because we didn’t get on board with the plans on the table?????What is this man smoking or snorting? As I remember only a few days past, WE were the only ones who had plans on the table to consider and it was them who weren’t getting on board with OUR plan, so I put the downgrade on the liberals shoulders for lack of negotiation with the ONLY plan on the table.

      I also put the downgrade back on them for spending wildly over the last 2 1/2 years. Nothing they did worked. A bad solution that went astray from lack of knowledge. You can’t BUY your way out of
      “no more money” like Obama did. Every thing he did was the wrong thing, spending more of our money like a drunk instead of spending wisely to put more back to work. What did it cost our Country when he saved a few hundred jobs at the cost of over $100,000 per job he saved? He could have given that as rebates to the entire country and not been as deep in the hole as he is, and he dug it himself, NOT George Bush. It‘s his own stupidity and how’s that for Hope & Change? fools.

      You know…..they could down grade the US to a “trash’ rating and it would be true as long as Democrats are in charge. If what they are saying is the TeaParty is honest then so be it. If the economy crashes and we start over I say great as long as we get rid of progressives along with all the funny money. Roll everything back to a sane time and the next time government elected representatives start buying votes then we take that politician out and shoot him/her in the town square.

      TEA party(take note of proper spelling) DO NOT become a centralized organization. Maintain yourself as an independent groups. The moment you get centralized, coordinated as one entity and official you will be THE target. The new narrative is to put all blame on all of you. Look at how effective the left is as separate groups from the unions to the countless number of socialist groups. Those on the right have no way to point the finger so easily at the left. You must maintain this appearance as well otherwise you know they will come after you in full force… the ball is already rolling. Stand tall but keep TP groups “isolated”.

      As laughable as this man is, unfortunately, too many are believing what he says. We are not winning the media war. Just by looking at comments sections and even people who are my friends, they are blaming the Tea Party. It is like we are living in the twilight zone. I had a discussion this past Friday with another conservative friend and he asked me “do you feel like we are living in some strange reality where up is down and black is white.” It is opposite world. They flat out LIE and people believe them. All it takes is a simple search to find the truth, but many are too lazy to do that. They rather watch Jersey Shore or the Kardashians (sp?). Until we can fix the stupid electorate, we are doomed.

      We must get control of the narative and make sure the truth is told. Unfortunately, there are too many out there, very willing to completely LIE to the American people and too many willing to believe those lies.

      Kerry‘s an idiot America’s S&P AAA rating has been way over rated for this Country that no longer manufactures and only consumes, America’s credit score is still over rated not under rated. This Country is in bad shape and without the right leadership in office this Country will continue to fail & fall deeper in debt. You cannot borrow & borrow with no intentions of repaying the debt…how is America going to repay this debt? Nothing is made in America we’re a Nation of consumers. Why do you think there is no longer equity in the housing market, the money has been spent and the Country is in decline. Food, gas & energy prices are on the rise, jobs are on the decline & the Government is spending like there’s no tomorrow. BO has spent trillions upon trillions of dollars and nobody know where all that money has gone.       First they were “astro-turf”, then racist, then stupid, then violent, then dangerous, then terrorists,then bombers and now they’re responsible for the S & P downgrade even though the Tea Party was pushing for the exact entitlement reforms that would have avoided the downgrade.

    Many members of the Tea Party want to put the finances of the United States of America on the right track. They realize that spending is the problem, not the lack of taxes. If people like Senator Kerry would listen more to the Tea Party ideals, then I would argue that a downgrade would have never happened.

    I realize that a lot of people don’t like the idea of scaling government back when they realize they may have to give up something like Social Security or Medicare, but how do some people expect to receive these benefits if the government fails due to fiscal irresponsibility. It sounds crazy to think that America’s government could fall, but a lot of other too crazy to ever happen things have happened in the last couple of years. I’m willing to give up a handout if it means having a country with a bright future.

      According to the experts, we shouldn’t have to worry about the deficit because we can just print all the money we want. This is the problem. You forgot to mention that further down in the S&P release is a comparison to Germany, GB, Canada and the difference is that by the year 2015 the other country’s deficit trajectory will start to dip down rather than rise as they will continue to do in the USA. The only difference is that those countries decided to cut the entitlement programs and make some changes that were tough. We will not do that because we have a bunch of political hacks who refuse to do the hard things.

How ridiculous would it be it your household was consuming 40% more than it could pay for yet was asking for their credit card balance to increase? Better yet, tifosa, why don’t you handle your finances like you advocate the government doing.       If we had passed the debt ceiling as we always do, we wouldn’t have been downgraded. You should celebrate this, remember, many of you were calling for default. Boehner: we got 98% of what we want, Cleaver it’s a “Satan Sandwich,“ Paul Ryan called the bill ”validating“ McConnell called the debt ceiling ”a hostage that’s worth ransoming” Yeh, the right owns this. Every REASONABLE person said to pass a clean bill, but the Teapublicons held it hostage. The corporatocracy (read Chamber of Commerce, Koch-drivers) used the tp right up until they couldn’t, but they waited too long. Don’t worry, they need you back, you vote.

      Unfortunately the news spin, and even on Fox this AM, is that S&P report said we needed “more revenues” and the tea party stopped that…I read the report, it said nothing of the kind, it said that future revenues were not enough to cover the spending and debt….STOP the SPENDING
