Joke or Truth? Socialists.com and Communists.com Redirect to Obama Campaign Site

The Obama campaign has just been hit with a bit of a web-sponsored headache. Specifically, anyone who types in the addresses socialists.com or communists.com on their web browsers will find themselves redirected to…the Obama campaign website.

The Twitterverse is already reacting with no small degree of amusement – and in some cases, alarm – to this odd phenomenon. Take a look at a few of the reactions:

More likely, it is a prank being pulled by the campaign’s political opponents. The New York Times reports:

It was unclear who purchased the domain names to engineer this bit of not-so-subliminal messaging — in the apparent hope of fueling a belief among some conservatives that Mr. Obama is a socialist or communist.

Those hoping to access information on socialism in earnest are better served at socialists.net, which bills itself as “the home of Marxism-De Leonism” and the official Internet hub of the Socialist Labor Party of America.

Visitors to communists.org and communists.net will probably have to look elsewhere for pertinent information. The pages offer only links to related search terms, which include, according to a rotating list on the latter site, “Chinese Culture” and “Chinese Woman.”

A similar prank was pulled in 2010 by conservative journalist Tucker Carlson, who purchased “keitholbermann.com” and had it redirect to his website, The Daily Caller. Carlson also sent emails pretending to be Olbermann using the domain name.

      Fundamental Change and then some, It looks like he is going to take advantage of the Trevon Martin situation to get his troops (New Black Panther Party, Black Liberation Army, Nation of Islam and SEIU) lined up. The demonstration in major cities will continue and spread (even Corpus Christi TX had a couple of dozen demonstrators) With the reverends Al and Jesse agitating the masses, Sweet Old Barack wants a Hugo Chavez style take over or wants to appoint himself King.

      Where do you get the idea that the purpose of a government is to provide for its people? That is a completely skewed and just plain wrong view of the purpose of government. The purpose of government is to protect its people through military and law creation/enforcement. That’s it! A government that takes care of its people is a government doomed to fail. Please look at history. Read about others who have gone on the path we’re on. It never ends well.

I was around during the Cuban missile crisis, the Cold War and all the other wonderful things Russia did.       People are fee to donate to charity. People are free to give through their churches. The government is not the one to provide this charity- especially when it derives from taking money from A and then the government who the recipient will be! Human beings are “endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights ” not by Big Brother Government. Individual rights are worth fighting for. Our founding Fathers fought that fight.       I suppose you could technically say that Obama is really more of a Fascist or a Nazi, the way he’s tied government to private enterprise, but allowed private citizens to pretend like they still own their own property, but it’s collectivism any way you slice it.

      It’s funny when modern Socialists get mad when you state that Nazis are Socialists. Tell me, if you went against the state or Hitler in Nazi Germany, would you live to tell the tale? Could they not summarily seize your property and do what they like with it? How is that NOT Socialism?

      Then they don’t even know what socialism is. There is indeed personal wealth. It is only owned by the elite few that call all the shots. There is something everyone needs to understand, even the misinformed socialists. Most of the very rich keep all their money. There may be a few cannibalized as they were in the USSR. One does not acquire that kind of money without knowing a few things about keeping it. So that being said, the primary goal of socialism is twofold. To equalize incomes in the workers to keep them suppressed politically and to discourage independent ambition as not to interfere with or challenge the elites. That way the haves, the wealthy elites, get to pick winners and losers for the express purpose of lining their own pockets even more. The standard of living for the workers inevitably diminishes as production does down. The “state” then has to move toward a hybrid of capitalism to survive. The only problem is that this time there will not be a U.S. to pick up the slack. Socialism is the politics of losers. A loser penned it originally. It has never worked for more than a few decades a a time and even then only marginally. As a rule you cannot reason with losers. They just refuse to understand.

      Paul only used the “corporatist” description of Obama so he could bash the GOP at the same time in the same breath.

    Just out of curiosity I tried both sites to see what would happen. No redirect to Obama campaign or any other of his sites. Just plently of links for those interested in communism/socialism…of course that would only need to take you to the White House.Gov page and you can see the place where Obama will raise his first red star flag.
