Jon Huntsman Reacts to Kind Words From Bill Clinton: ‘He Did His Due Diligence’

Huntsman on Endorsement from Bill Clinton

Within the last several months, the presidential campaign of former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman has moved away from portraying himself as a moderate and making snarky comments about rival candidates, to putting all the focus on his record and economic plan which are both extremely conservative. During Bill Clinton‘s interview on the O’Reilly factor Tuesday, he would not give an endorse of either of the current GOP front runners, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney, but did have some nice words for Huntsman. Huntsman addressed the comments, as well as the direction of his campaign during an interview on Fox News Wednesday:

“He [Clinton] did his due diligence. He looked at my record. He found that I have been consistent on life, I’ve been consistent on the second amendment. I delivered the largest tax cut in the history of my state, health care reform without a mandate … the president actually looked into it and found that I am the consistent conservative.”

Huntsman is relying on New Hampshire voters to focus on his record as well.  The ex-governor and ambassador to China has put the majority of his resources into the Granite State where he polls better than in national estimates, but still ranks fourth.

“We are working that state like nobody else. This is a state that wants you to earn it. They don’t want to be told for whom to vote. They love an underdog to come from behind. They are buying the message that I have to offer and it’s from my heart and soul. And it’s about an economic deficit and it’s about a trust deficit.”

Do you think praise from Bill Clinton will be a gift, or a curse for the Huntsman campaign?

Gov. Huntsman, I hate to be the one to have to break it to you, but you really shouldn’t want Clinton endorsing you. I personally would NOT be smiling about this.

I have noticed that you have a tendency to get a little too star-struck by liberal politicians. You bend over backwards to get along with the other party, but act condescending towards your own. Getting along with the other side is only alright if you treat your own party ten times better, but you don’t. As a result, there is not a chance this Mormon Republican is going to vote for you.

You were a liberal governor in a very conservative state, Utah, which puts you just to the right of center, but it also tells me that your heart isn’t conservative.

Huntsman bends over backwards….AND forwards. Your backwards visual is totally right on…and my forwards visual is just downright mind blowing…..well you know what i mean….

    So,
Gingrich is smart as they come and well connected, but he has a past that haunts him, and some say he is more Progressive than anything else.

Perry has made numerous blunders and sounds, even acts like Bush jr.

Romney is a flip flopping National Healthcare. Lover.
Done RIGHT, that COULD be ok, but we are FAR FAR FAR away from there.

Ron Paul is so far “ahead” of hs time he is in a whole other dimension.
Continually reminds me of potheads I grew up with and their bizarre ideas.
Yeeeah duuuude we should legalize heroin and weed and just be NICE to everyone,
stop the wars and don’t fight for ANYTHING mannnn.

    Cain is gone.
    Too bad.

Bachman refuses to compromise even a little on ANYTHING and comes across like a nieve nut.
NOTHING gets done in Congress if you can’t compromise at least a little.

    That leaves Huntsman.
Not my favorite but I must admit the news media continually leaves him out of the debates
    and ignores him.
I know virtually nothing about him short of his ability to speak Chinese..

Who the Hell SHOULD conservatives be rooting for?

I think Giuliani would be a SHOE IN at this point.
It’s a litlle late in the game to jump in but then again, maybe it is the PERFECT time.

    Frustrated here…

I don‘t understand why conservatives haven’t backing Rick Santorum. He is the best man for the job. A true Christian who is also truly conservative.

First off, the debates are not run appropriately IMO. Every candidate should be given the same time. By penalizing those low in the polls you‘re rewarding those who’ve spent more money and/or have more national exposure. That is not a system optimized towards finding the best candidate, it’s optimized towards finding the best candidate among those with significant financial backing.

Some people will argue that the nominee needs to be someone with the connections and/or national recognition in order to get enough funding to win a presidential election but I disagree. I think finding the best candidate, especially in this day and age, should in no way be a function of financial backing.

We have to get money out of politics.

Now that Cain has dropped out, I’ll be voting for Huntsman.

Gingrich is a stinker, Bachmann, Perry & Santorum represent the lunatic anti-science fringe, Romney is milquetoast, but Huntsman is both smart and well principled.

    He has my vote.

To tell you the truth, Mr. Huntsman, that is not something a conservative wants. If you think that that is something good then your not really conservative. And what this country needs is a real conservative.

Bill “The Fibber” Clinton likes you? HAHAHA thats no endorsement John.
Best case scenario and blindly giving the benefit of the doubt was Billy Boy was being sarcastic was he stated Huntsman was the most conservative. In actuality Billy does what he does and lied (again) to create division and confusion to voters.

Please explain how Huntsman is a RINO? Do you have a sound argument or are you just blindly calling names? If you look at his record, he really is the most conservative of the whole lot. It is a lot easier to call the likes of Gingrich and Romney RINO’s with their records.

My sentiments exactly. His campaign rhetoric sounds a lot like obummer’s first round. Not only does he hang onto his dad’s coat tails but he takes credit for the great state of UT. He had nothing to do with the state except lie to get votes. Two years as governor, then 2 years as ambassador. He has very short term commitments.
