Jon Lovitz Sets the Record Straight About His Obama Tax Comments

Ever since Jon Lovitz started complaining about the effective tax rate he pays as a successful comedian, the typical arsenal of class warfare smears have been employed against him, apparently including the idea that he somehow threatened the President. This tag line was recently debuted on the Dr Drew Pinsky show, where Pinsky outright accused Lovitz of making threats:
PINSKY: Yes, thank you. That the Secret Service is now out looking for you.
LOVITZ: Yeah–
PINSKY: Did they come and talk to you?
(Lovitz pauses in disbelief)
PINSKY: The Secret Service?
LOVITZ: No!
PINSKY: Well you made some threats against the president
LOVITZ: No I didn’t. I didn’t make any threat.
PINSKY: No?
LOVITZ: No!
What followed was one of the more calm explanations of a simple, commonsensical idea ever put on TV. Lovitz completely batted aside the charge that he was a “fat cat” complaining about his taxes, saying he wasn’t complaining about what his tax rates were, but that he was complaining that the President thought he wasn’t paying his “fair share.”
“I’m not complaining about the taxes I pay. What I don’t like is him saying those people in that category who came from nothing and worked hard and made something of themselves are now, they’re not paying their fair share of taxes. It’s like the 1 percent versus the 99 percent,” Lovitz said. “And he’s creating a class warfare in a country where there is no class structure. Anybody can go from being broke to being wealthy. And all the friends that I have that are considered–that are way beyond me–billionaires, came from nothing.”

The tax on the so called wealthy is nothing more than a tax to stop small business growth. They don’t mind if you are a small mom and pop business just getting by, but they don’t want you to be able to take that business idea and grow it into a larger business that will create more jobs and more wealth for your business.

When we finally kicked them out a couple of years ago, I asked him how he voted.
