Jon Stewart Attacks Marcus Bachmann’s Sexuality

Jon Stewart Attacks Marcus Bachmanns SexualityFollowing the controversy surrounding a clinic that is owned by presidential candidate, and Minnesota congresswoman, Michele Bachmann and her husband Dr. Marcus Bachmann, accusations and commentary have begun to turn ugly. Pundits and celebrities, alike, are taking to Twitter and to the airwaves to criticize both methodology and — sexuality. Gawker writes:

After [Wednesday's] Daily Show, we can add Jon Stewart to the ever-growing list of people who can’t help but wonder if Marcus Bachmann, husband to Republican presidential candidate Michele and runner of a pray-the-gay-away facility, may be a little light in the loafers.

After explaining the clinic controversy and showing some video of the Bachmanns dancing at a “Tea Party event,” Stewart quips:

“That’s the guy teaching people not to be gay? Seriously? Is he…is that the guy…is he teaching people not to be gay or is he like the green mile guy and just absorbing it all?

…This man is an Izod shirt away from being the gay character on Modern Family…of course one of them is a straight man pretending to be gay.

Just because Dr. Bachmann’s therapy does real damage to real people…and he is seemingly curing them so he can hoard all the gayness for himself…”

Watch Stewarts comments below [Content WARNING: contains some adult themes and discussion]:

Yesterday, The Second City Network released a parody video that also targets Dr. Bachmann’s sexuality. The clip, which is probably intended to be taken lightly but is harsh nonetheless, makes fun of the way Bachmann talks and alludes to the notion that he is hiding his sexuality:

Of course, neither of these videos serve as outliers. There are plenty of individuals — mainly on the left side of the aisle — who have made similar disparaging comments about the presidential candidate’s husband.

Filed under the “Mysteries” on the Gawker web site, writer Lauri Apple covers the celebrities and personalities who have slammed Dr. Bachmann thus far. Here are a few from her list:

Cher, who used her Twitter the other day to riff on Bachmann (as the gay news website Towleroad noticed).

Jon Stewart Attacks Marcus Bachmanns Sexuality

The Daily Show co-creator and satirist Lizz Winstead, who tweeted that Bachmann is “the white Al Reynolds.”

Jon Stewart Attacks Marcus Bachmanns Sexuality

James Urbaniak of The Venture Brothers, who Tumbled: “It’s pretty much a given that the most vociferously homophobic men are usually repressing something. But, oh Mary, Michele Bachmann’s husband Marcus takes the ever-loving cake. He’s a cure-the-gay therapist out of a John Waters movie. I haven’t seen flames this high since the last California wildfire…”

Keith Olbermann referred to Bachmann as a “bizarre-sounding man who‘s calling gays ’barbarians’“ and wonders how you can ”hide” him without putting him in some sort of closet.

Also, someone launched a parody Twitter account, which is also being used — surprise! — to joke about Dr. Bachmann’s sexuality. Here’s the bio:

Jon Stewart Attacks Marcus Bachmanns SexualityFor the sake of not being repetitive, I won’t spend time delving into the Tweets, as they fall in line with what’s been shown already. These attacks on Dr. Bachmann’s character — and sexuality — seem to be increasing with time.

The mean-spirited commentary is likely a collective response to“reparative therapy” and its alleged use at his clinic. While those in opposition to Bachmann are certainly entitled to their opinions, one can’t help but wonder if there are more appropriate ways to respond to differing ideals.

If John Stewart was funny he would be a movie star not a movie hack. I’m sure liberal commies think he is funny as we only need to look at Russia for the socialist commies sense of humor. The only thing he does is read lines and make the Same Stupid Face over and over again. The only thing natural to him is making stupid faces that is extremely natural to him.

What Stewart did was to change the spelling of “Stuart,” his middle name, and drop the “Leibowitz.”
Maybe because he hated his father, but he could have become “Lefkowitz” or “Leib.” You can understand why Jack Benny and George Burns and Edward G. Robinson changed names back in the days when resorts openly discriminated and Ivy League colleges deliberately kept Jewish enrollments down. But Stewart is less than 50 years old! From Mort Sahl to Sarah Silverman, latter-day Jewish comedians have discontinued this odd practice. Very strange of Stewart to carry it on.

Jon Stewart is on the money with this and the others who question Marcus Bachmann’s sexual orientation! I thought he was mighty feminine the first time I saw him and after hearing about this therapy to supposedly wash away the gay, I mean this is too funny! This stuff can’t be made up! Truth is certainly stranger than fiction! Michelle Bachmann and her “hubby” are hypocrites – first by happily raking in fed monies from various places and secondly by claiming to hate the gays and by him being one himself!! Bwahhhh!!!!

      Matt Marshall:

Someone who gets off the odd zinger or presents long, labored left-wing arguments or simply trades in insults is genuinely of the left.

I don’t think TE11 is of that ilk. I don’t think he (or she) is a plant of any sort. I have traded comments with him on occasion and to me he seems genuinely convinced that Jews play a disproportionately large and malign role in the world and are unusually clever at concealing the fact, and sometimes even at concealing their Jewishness. (It’s not exactly news that some do this, is it?) He claims to be a convert to these views. He seems especially interested in the Jews of east central Europe and the former USSR, and their role in Marxist movements, especially communism.

So far, I have not seen him take the last step into the notion of an “international Jewish conspiracy” of which our leaders and most of our people are supposedly dupes. Whether he thinks Jews do bad things because of their genes or their cultural characteristics, I can’t say.

I do see a lot of racist commentary here. TE11′s stands out because it is directed at Jews, not Mexicans, Arabs or the French.

Lloyd Drako Thank you for articulating my views in a much more concise manner than I ever have… I’ll make a note for next time. lol

Unfortunately I do believe that it is an International conspiracy and I really don’t see how the results of it can be disputed although I suppose one could argue who/what has been most responsible for bring it to fruition.

I do believe that genetics play the major role in who we are but it’s certainly influenced by our surroundings. I heard Glenn Beck make the most interesting comment at lunch today about Jews. He said that Israel was special because of the people. I thought to myself “well the egalitarians (Jews) among us have been telling us for greater than 50 years that we are all the same.. all races are equal and the same yet GB says Israel is special because of its people…” So is GB saying that Jews are more special than Christians? That’s strange Glenn.. A Jew without Christ is more special than an Aryan with Christ? I personally believe that GB is just a BS artist looking out for his financial security shilling for what he calls a special people.

Marcus Bachmann is very much in play for three reasons:

      1. Michelle Bachmann wants us to believe that she is a viable financial mind because of the “success” she and her husband have had in small business. Marcus Bachmann’s clinic is that business.

      2. Marcus Bachmann accepted 137K in medicaid while running that small business, which seems to very much contradict the values that Michelle Bachmann is campaigning on since she is against government spending , especially on handouts like medicaid.

      3. As a biblical literalist in marriage Michelle has repeatedly said that her duty in marriage is to obey her husband. A woman beholden to her spouse as the president would make that spouse pretty important.

I have never seen Obama say that he is beholden to Sasha, Malia or Michelle.

Has BO addressed Marcus Bachmann? Or Michelle for that matter? I hadn’t heard. Nice thoughtful argument you put together there though. Pathetic really that all you can do is say that they are talking points without trying to refute them. The Medicaid point is disputed due to patient confidentiality, but are you saying that the other two points aren’t true? They are her statements.

I didn’t even go to the “talking points” that Marcus Bachmann’s whole practice is quackery, that he is a fraud who doesn’t even have an advanced degree in Psychology or Psychiatry, that he is a repressed homosexual and consequentially a self-loathing bigot who victimizes and belittles vulnerable people under the aegis of religion.

I have no idea why I even raise legitimate points on this forum because all of you idiots want is an echo chamber to make yourself feel better and see who can quote the most scripture in one post.

What really is disturbing is that fools like Stewart and Mahr and Mathews are given any serious time of the day. Any news repetition on their nasty nonsense should be presented in language that implies disdain for them like— wait till you hear what that jerk said last night.

Why is she not on his radar? Why are Rep females targets but dems aren’t? Can’t wait for the scathing satire of pelosi, boxer, and williams on SNL, should be coming soon.

You forgot how the uber-tolerant Left approve of lesbians – until Darth Cheney was found to have spawned a lesbian daughter. THEN the masks came off. Besides, if they’re oh-so-accepting, why is it great to hurl grade-school labels at one’s opponent or their family? To say nothing of “*********”…

A large majority of Americans don’t really care about such things, until some Progressive from either political pole decides to start telling others how to behave.

      Lloyd,

That may be the intention, but Stewart is showing an underlying hypocrisy in the method of his comedy. That is, that while championing gay rights, he uses homosexual stereotypes (such as gay promiscuity, etc. — in the parody of Field of Dreams) that are counter-productive to the end of equality for homosexuals. These is a deep-rooted hypocrisy in that method.

If, for example, a Christian evangelist tried to go after an opponent by claiming he was a closet Bible-Thumper, that would be extremely hypocritical as well. The actions and the words are not in tandem. The same is for the labeling that Stewart (and other more “legitimate” liberal authorities) does in his piece about Mr. Bachmann which is completely counter to the implied philosophy that labels are discriminatory and people should just be people.

Does the left ever wonder how their rude, crude and socially unacceptable comments affect the children of the people they attack? Maybe it is time for the ‘right’ to start digging into the past and present of these pundits, who feel it is their right and duty to attack, and give them a taste of their own medicine. I’m sure their wives/husbands/mothers/fathers/sisters/brothers/children, etc have a past that isn’t as lily white as they would lead us to believe. I don’t know about anyone else, but I am getting a bit tired of turning the other cheek, only to get slapped again.

Grandma, I normally would agree, but the left has nothing to run on except to attack the right like they do. Taking the high road is what the right has always done, and running on “real issues” like the right does speaks for itself, just like the attacks of the left speaks to their character, and how much “dirty laundry” they have, and how they hide it behind all their attacks. Digging up dirt on the left makes the right look just as bad as the left, in my opinion. Just sayin.

Let me get this straight (honestly, no pun intended), these liberals who deplore stereotypes are speculating on a person’s sexuality based upon his supposed similarity to certain gay stereotypes. If I pretended to be gay by walking a certain way or talking a certain way I would be castigated for perpetuating stereotypes. But if I walk and talk that way and claim to be straight, then I must be gay.

      Absolutely.

People such as this “protect” homosexuals and then mock the crap out of them. They’re being used for political gain. The sad part is how many people fall for it.

Personal opinion on the matter aside, I’ve always felt the worst thing to happen for the gay community was the flaunting of it. The whole “gay is cooler” atmosphere of a lot of pro-gay material and events. I had a classmate who seriously made the statement that things done by gay people are cooler than those done by straights. And I see that as entirely destructive for the gay community. If you want to be validated, you try to integrate and be equal (like the Asian minorities have been able to do quite well in most situations, for instance). Trying to gain power, both political and cultural leads to confrontations.

Sadly, this seems to be largely what the political “advocates” for homosexual rights want. And then they go and trivialize and say some of the most offensively stereotypical crap. It’s just sad to see Stewart, and others, trying to use those they typically advocate to try to attack an opponent.

You do have a point, Isles.

Taking the Bachmanns point of view and reversing it against their “Pray the Gay Way” stance one could say: personal repression and self denial is also like slavery. Its also a very sad life. Like barbarians they should be disciplined and corrected. —-”Disciplined?” That reeks of sadomasicism. A trait often associated with closeted male homosexuals.

Only noticing the stereotypes used in the video is missing the obvious that Marcus Bachmann comes off as fruitier than a strawberry and peach parfait covered in luscious whipped cream. But you’re right it is a “stereotype”. Marcus’ speach pattern, choice of words, dance moves and appearance aren’t a true indicator of his sexual preferences or his true carnal desires. That is really no ones business. However, since the Bachmann’s have made it a personal joint endeavor to “cure” gayness via religion with their own personally owned and operated “clinic” all of this is fair fodder for jokes and mockery.

      I think its pretty funny.

      “—-”Disciplined?” That reeks of sadomasicism.”

So, someone says discipline and you think of spanking, or other things. That speaks volumes. You certainly have heard the word used in reference to any difficult work or specialized study. Mathematics is a discipline. Mathematoi is Greek for disciple. It means that training and dedication and hard work are required to master these things. It isn’t easy.

Any speaker of the English language knows this meaning of Discipline. So why do you go for the sadomasochism angle? Cheap and dishonest. You can do better. How about a more disciplined argument?

This is a perfect distraction from the fact that we have 9.2 % unemployment (which is actually like 20%), that we’re spending trillions, and Obamacare is an utter failure. Let’s attack Michelle Bachman because she believes in God. The Muslims would have beheaded Stewart by now if he would have made fun of their belief in Sharia Law… you won’t see him go there. Bachman is a much more appealing target than Muslims (which would be racist according to Liberals).
