Jon Stewart Rants: After ‘Winning’ Debt Deal, Tea Party Angry Gov’t Still Exists

On Daily Show Comedy Centrals Jon Stewart Says Tea Party Unhappy Government Still Exists Even After Winning Debt DealAmong Democrats, some of the most spirited opposition to the debt deal has emerged, with well-known politicians and media figures attacking both the contents of the agreement and the Tea Party. Jon Stewart is the latest to make disparaging comments.

On Monday night, the “Daily Show” host went on a rant against the Tea Party, making low-cut jabs and lamenting the conservative push for spending cuts.

But, before going there, let’s review a few of the other recent Democratic responses to the debt deal. First, CNN’s Fareed Zakaria called the Tea Party “anti-democratic“ and accused it of ”hostage-taking.” Then, there was Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s “satan sandwich” Tweet (which was more entertaining than it was disparaging).

And last, but certainly not least, Democratic Rep. Mike Doyle and Vice-president Joe Biden expressed their discontent with some conservatives, allegedly likening the Tea Party to terrorists. This brings us to Stewart, a comedian known for his anti-conservative meanderings. According to Business Insider, the liberal celebrity simply can’t understand why the Tea Party is unhappy with the final deal. He rants:

“You control less than half of one chamber of Congress and yet have somehow convinced everybody they have to cut trillions in spending because of the ‘deficit crisis’…Take the win!  What are you still angry about?  Yes.  Government still exists.  We still have traffic lights.  We’re sorry.  Not everybody defines freedom as the ability to not pay taxes.”

Like Zakaria, Stewart also uses a hostage analogy to drive his point home. Watch him spout off, below:

” Not everybody defines freedom as the ability to not pay taxes.”

The problem here Jon, is that half of Americans don’t pay any taxes. It ticks off the rest of us, and is part of why Americans are growling at each other. Flat tax – and we’re all in the same boat, millionaires and blue collar. But I‘m pretty sure the progressives don’t want a unified America.

Yes, a little under half of America doesn’t pay taxes (if you don’t count the illegal aliens working for cash under the table, or listed as “independent contractors” so the employer doesn’t have to file, they are supposed to). I don’t mind the graduated tax rate, and I don’t even mind people under the poverty level getting all their taxes back. But the government goes above and beyond that with the Earned Income Tax Credit, where people are getting back MORE than they put in, not just what they put in. Plus they probably qualify for Food Stamps. It’s Cloward and Piven.

      Jesus was apolitical.

Jesus said the ONLY way to the Father was through the Son. Jesus said HE is the way the truth, and the life. There are NO other alternatives. How is that a liberal message?

That is just a stupid talking point that is actually quite wrong when we examine it.

No firebrand the point flew by you.
The point is that SOME might not decscribe freedom as being tax free.
NO ONE describes freedom as being taxed.
Tax isn‘t a by product of freedom it’s real product of government
The size and amount of that tax is based on the size and scope of the government
Our founders knew that to a establish a free society was to limit the scope of Government.
To establish a prosperous society was to limit the size of government
Top establish a free and prosperous society was the limit both the size and scope of government
Over the last 200 and change the government has grown far beyond the Constitutional limitations put on it…THIS IS WHY THE TEA PARTY HAS BEEN ESTABLISH

If anything I believe that Jesus was a Libertarian – to let us know that we have not been forgotten by our creator and that those that hear his message would know that they will be saved the horrible experience of what is to come. Some of us will be spared, some of us will be left here to rebuild (the meek will inherit the earth), and yet many more will perish because they refuse to accept the truth that God (our creator) will return. Jesus never mandated religion on anyone, they are free to disagree, to not believe.

If He was not 100% for individual freedom then we would not have the free say in whether we choose to follow Him or not. Also He spoke a number of times about there will always be poor and that we cannot fix poor. As for someone claiming that He is a liberal shows that that person knows absolultely NOTHING about Him!

Liberals/leftists wouldn’t hate Jesus and Christianity so bad if he was indeed a liberal. Jesus was/is Jesus. That conservatives follow Jesus and liberals don’t would be the only thing that connects Jesus to a contemporary political ideology. But since we live in the contemporary, and judging by what we know (re:above) we would have to conclude he was a conservative.

I understood your point just fine.
The point I was trying to reiterate is that freedom isn’t free. It’s paid for in blood, sweat, tears and taxes, period. Interestingly enough, many of the taxes go to prevent the payment in blood in the form of defense spending. In other words, we have freedoms that cannot be taken away (albeit unless we allow them to be). In order to protect those freedoms, we have to pay taxes. For this, I said that taxes are a by-product of our freedom.

Oh shut up. You know damn well what people mean when they say 50% don’t pay taxes. Nobody cares about sales tax. It’s a small percentage that people have to pay on items. Nobody generally thinks twice about it when they buy something.

You know full well that people are talking about income taxes that are due April 15th. Those are the ones that are like a punch in the gut to half of U.S. citizens. If I’m losing 30% or more of my annual income, and others are losing nothing, then there is a problem.

I think the point is that we the people are screwing ourselves. We are cutting our own SSI, and Medicare. The Corporate right media calls them “entitlements”. They are programs that hard working Americans paid into over a lifetime. Now we want to cut our own throats because the Oligarchs on the right wants you to believe in “shared sacrifice”. Be a good teapartyer. Now all the folks in Washington give up nothing, yet they keep saying stuff like for the good of the country to make you feel better. So what do we have to look forward to, no retirement, no healthcare, lower wages, no good schools, no nothing. Is that the vision of the tea party. Was it the tea party that got us in this mess? No, yet it us the civilian class that will sacrifice and the Oligarchs and Corporate masters will sacrifice nothing.

Oh Oldphoto, it’s rather sad that this is all you had to contribute to the thread. You could have demonstrated true intellect and decorum and made a wonderful point, yet instead chose to hurl ad hominem and invective at people whom you have never met. Your behavior is reminiscent of that of a teen aged boy whose views on life are affirmed based on slinging poorly worded insults at every passer by and high fiving his friends.

Perhaps in future posts you can contribute something of value to the discussion. Until then, I wish you well and hope you’re enjoying this beautiful August day. Slainte.

You certainly hit the nail on the head!
I had to give up spending $60 plus dollars for cable monthly as we need to eat, pay mortgages, gas, insurance, purchase meds, etc. As a small woman in business, I have to watch every dime. It‘s a word Obama doesn’t know how to pronouce….“BUDGET”. If Stewart and other comedians think this is funny, they are incredibly wrong! I miss seeing Nascar races, watching the weather station,Fox News, and if Obama has his way rabbit ears and converter boxes will have to be thrown in the trash. This is my only way of enjoying nightly programs and news (not ABC, NBC, or CBS).
It sure would be interesting to know how many of us don’t have cable, who simply have to spend our money more appropriately….This is a subject that should be brought to Congress, as American’s are suffering. I’ve been trying to find a part time job in my area…. NONE. Been looking since 2010…
The America as we once knew it, is quickly changing to socialism. Thank you Obama and your followers.

I doubt that Stewart actually thinks that the Tea Partiers are anarchists — he, like most comedians, use hyperbole to stretch truth into a joke.

The scary ones are the liberal idiots elected into government positions by the sheeple who actually believe Stewart, Maher, Behar and Letterman are being truthful.

“Not everybody defines freedom as the ability to not pay taxes.”

Yeah, liberals/progressives/communists/Marxists/fascists trade a bit of security for liberty – traditional Americans will not.

Ah, the genius strikes again. Mr. Shyster himself, Jon Stewart. I mean, how worthless is a dude like this? What does he do now that he’s rich to server his fellow man? Typical bottom-feeder antics – appeal to America’s lowest common denominator.

You can almost see the anger and hate seep out of his eyeballs when he talks about Tea. Losers like Al Sharpton, Barney Frank, Obama – he has no problem with, but traditional Americans – kill them all!!!

I see that you subscibe to the same idea as Benjamin Franklin that anyone who would give up some of their liberty for some temporary safety deserves neither liberty nor safety. But I would remind you that under the Patriot Act, this is exactly what happened. All Americans had to give up some of their liberties, and those of us caught in the middle were told by conservative republicans that it was necessary to secure our freedom. So liberals are not the only ones guilty of failing Ben Franklin’s test. Conservative republicans are just as guilty.

Actually, I was leaning more towards taxation because these idiots continually take a little bit more each generation, yet each generation is a worse product than the previous one. It’s wasted money on nothing more than a Utopian dream that will never come true – yet they’ll never admit it. I mean, this idiot Stewart is in his 40‘s or 50’s and he still won’t own up to the fact that liberalism is a failed ideology, or worse, he won’t admit it because it would affect his bottom line in a very negative way.

It is the people who cannot take Jon’s show for what it is, a comedy show.. the one’s who use it as an actual news source.. that is scary. I have seen him bash democrats, and republicans alike. I always hear that a large majority of his viewers are “pot head liberals” (I have never seen the numbers just what seems to be the consensus) , I am neither, but I do watch him from time to time, I think he is funny. I watched last night, he did a nice piece on a USO trip he took to meet some troops as well. Also, right before he said that, he made light of inconsistencies with Obummer’s statements. If they would have just played that clip (making light of the president) then you would see a lot of comments along the lines of “I think Jon Stuart is an idiot, don’t watch him, but he was good on that one!” etc. etc… Like anything, I would rather watch the whole thing and come to my own conclusion, not a couple of sentences taken from a 30 minute comedy TV show.
