Jon Stewart Rants: After ‘Winning’ Debt Deal, Tea Party Angry Gov’t Still Exists

Among Democrats, some of the most spirited opposition to the debt deal has emerged, with well-known politicians and media figures attacking both the contents of the agreement and the Tea Party. Jon Stewart is the latest to make disparaging comments.
On Monday night, the “Daily Show” host went on a rant against the Tea Party, making low-cut jabs and lamenting the conservative push for spending cuts.
But, before going there, let’s review a few of the other recent Democratic responses to the debt deal. First, CNN’s Fareed Zakaria called the Tea Party “anti-democratic“ and accused it of ”hostage-taking.” Then, there was Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s “satan sandwich” Tweet (which was more entertaining than it was disparaging).
And last, but certainly not least, Democratic Rep. Mike Doyle and Vice-president Joe Biden expressed their discontent with some conservatives, allegedly likening the Tea Party to terrorists. This brings us to Stewart, a comedian known for his anti-conservative meanderings. According to Business Insider, the liberal celebrity simply can’t understand why the Tea Party is unhappy with the final deal. He rants:
“You control less than half of one chamber of Congress and yet have somehow convinced everybody they have to cut trillions in spending because of the ‘deficit crisis’…Take the win! What are you still angry about? Yes. Government still exists. We still have traffic lights. We’re sorry. Not everybody defines freedom as the ability to not pay taxes.”
Like Zakaria, Stewart also uses a hostage analogy to drive his point home. Watch him spout off, below:

The problem here Jon, is that half of Americans don’t pay any taxes. It ticks off the rest of us, and is part of why Americans are growling at each other. Flat tax – and we’re all in the same boat, millionaires and blue collar. But I‘m pretty sure the progressives don’t want a unified America.

Yes, a little under half of America doesn’t pay taxes (if you don’t count the illegal aliens working for cash under the table, or listed as “independent contractors” so the employer doesn’t have to file, they are supposed to). I don’t mind the graduated tax rate, and I don’t even mind people under the poverty level getting all their taxes back. But the government goes above and beyond that with the Earned Income Tax Credit, where people are getting back MORE than they put in, not just what they put in. Plus they probably qualify for Food Stamps. It’s Cloward and Piven.

To establish a prosperous society was to limit the size of government

I understood your point just fine.
The point I was trying to reiterate is that freedom isn’t free. It’s paid for in blood, sweat, tears and taxes, period. Interestingly enough, many of the taxes go to prevent the payment in blood in the form of defense spending. In other words, we have freedoms that cannot be taken away (albeit unless we allow them to be). In order to protect those freedoms, we have to pay taxes. For this, I said that taxes are a by-product of our freedom.

Oh shut up. You know damn well what people mean when they say 50% don’t pay taxes. Nobody cares about sales tax. It’s a small percentage that people have to pay on items. Nobody generally thinks twice about it when they buy something.
You know full well that people are talking about income taxes that are due April 15th. Those are the ones that are like a punch in the gut to half of U.S. citizens. If I’m losing 30% or more of my annual income, and others are losing nothing, then there is a problem.

They are programs that hard working Americans paid into over a lifetime. Now we want to cut our own throats because the Oligarchs on the right wants you to believe in “shared sacrifice”. Be a good teapartyer. Now all the folks in Washington give up nothing, yet they keep saying stuff like for the good of the country to make you feel better. So what do we have to look forward to, no retirement, no healthcare, lower wages, no good schools, no nothing. Is that the vision of the tea party. Was it the tea party that got us in this mess? No, yet it us the civilian class that will sacrifice and the Oligarchs and Corporate masters will sacrifice nothing.

Yeah, liberals/progressives/communists/Marxists/fascists trade a bit of security for liberty – traditional Americans will not.
Ah, the genius strikes again. Mr. Shyster himself, Jon Stewart. I mean, how worthless is a dude like this? What does he do now that he’s rich to server his fellow man? Typical bottom-feeder antics – appeal to America’s lowest common denominator.
You can almost see the anger and hate seep out of his eyeballs when he talks about Tea. Losers like Al Sharpton, Barney Frank, Obama – he has no problem with, but traditional Americans – kill them all!!!

Posted on August 2, 2011 at 11:44amI see that you subscibe to the same idea as Benjamin Franklin that anyone who would give up some of their liberty for some temporary safety deserves neither liberty nor safety. But I would remind you that under the Patriot Act, this is exactly what happened. All Americans had to give up some of their liberties, and those of us caught in the middle were told by conservative republicans that it was necessary to secure our freedom. So liberals are not the only ones guilty of failing Ben Franklin’s test. Conservative republicans are just as guilty.

Posted on August 2, 2011 at 12:08pmActually, I was leaning more towards taxation because these idiots continually take a little bit more each generation, yet each generation is a worse product than the previous one. It’s wasted money on nothing more than a Utopian dream that will never come true – yet they’ll never admit it. I mean, this idiot Stewart is in his 40‘s or 50’s and he still won’t own up to the fact that liberalism is a failed ideology, or worse, he won’t admit it because it would affect his bottom line in a very negative way.

Posted on August 2, 2011 at 12:11pmWell said Darthmims. Both “sides” have convinced their base to trade liberty for false security on demand. Those of us who subscribe to neither side’s fear mongering are, of course, classified as extremists.

Posted on August 2, 2011 at 12:25pmIt is sad that those of us trying to make democracy work are sometimes thrown in with the crazy outer “extremes” of the two parties, when if they would just look closer, we are the ones in the middle holding everything together.

I agree that the issues are caused by both sides. However, I would hardly call G.W. Bush a “conservative”. Regardless of the R or D in front of the name, the Progressive ideology is the affliction our nation suffers from.

Posted on August 2, 2011 at 12:04pmMARTINRNELSON: I am with you, and as many times as I have ever said that, people do not understand. It is the people who cannot take Jon’s show for what it is, a comedy show.. the one’s who use it as an actual news source.. that is scary. I have seen him bash democrats, and republicans alike. I always hear that a large majority of his viewers are “pot head liberals” (I have never seen the numbers just what seems to be the consensus) , I am neither, but I do watch him from time to time, I think he is funny. I watched last night, he did a nice piece on a USO trip he took to meet some troops as well. Also, right before he said that, he made light of inconsistencies with Obummer’s statements. If they would have just played that clip (making light of the president) then you would see a lot of comments along the lines of “I think Jon Stuart is an idiot, don’t watch him, but he was good on that one!” etc. etc… Like anything, I would rather watch the whole thing and come to my own conclusion, not a couple of sentences taken from a 30 minute comedy TV show.

Your side seems intent on forcing the rest of the nation into a long drawn out national suicide and you will stop at nothing to ensure that this occurs. It’s such a shame really, to see how so many have not only forgotten what America is supposed to be about but who have been taught to loudly scream like the good sheep during Napoleon’s speech about “four feet good two feet bad”. You do not wish debate nor alternate ideas, you wish for nothing but destruction, starvation and machine guns on walls, and the sad thing is you probably don’t even know it.

The Tea Party is not some chaotic terrorist organization and neither a hostile group of anarchists. The Tea Party is for the principles in which most of the founders believed in.
