Jon Stewart Slams Gingrich Response To ‘Open Marriage’ Question During Debate

Coming back from the weekend after the CNN Republican Presidential debate, Jon Stewart ripped into Newt Gingrich for hypocrisy on the issues of marriage and Washington “insider” status that came up during some of its most fiery exchanges.

Stewart thinks that instead of a knockout blow for Gingrich, it should have been a wipeout for CNN’s John King because Stewart feels the combative GOP contender has a glass jaw on a host of core issues.

Stewart first focused in on the very beginning of the debate when CNN moderator King asked Gingrich if he wanted to discuss the issue of the highly publicized interview his ex-wife gave several news outlets on the eve of the debate. Gingrich said “no,” and then proceeded to eviscerate King and the media in general on national TV in a soundbite that has since gone viral.

“As close to despicable as it can get?” Stewart asked, in reference to Gingrich’s opening remarks. Stewart then gave a  convoluted description of Gingrich’s marital history, and ended the tirade with:

“You imagined your wife, while she dealing with MS, would be ok with you have sex with a woman who you had already been having sex with for six years. I think you have a pretty good imagination despicability-wise”

Channeling Gingrich’s position for a moment, Stewart asked rhetorically “How dare you ask me about something as tawdry as my three somewhat-overlapping marriages.”

Stewart also referred to Gingrich as “a career marriage-sanctity sully-er” and said of CNN‘s King’s rejoinder to Gingrich that he “shanked it.”

Stewart then turned his attention to the issue of influence-peddling that has become a hot-button issue in the Gingrich camp and came up during exchanges with GOP contender Mitt Romney. As Mediaite described Stewart’s words:

“Then there was the whole Freddie Mac deal…Gingrich claimed he had a ‘small business’ of some sort (’your small business involves selling access to Washington!’) … He wondered if the rise of Gingrich made Republicans happy, only to have a ready-made montage (how do they do that?) of Republicans bickering over the top two candidates.

Perhaps the most biting moment in Stewart’s entire monologue was when he said of Gingrich: “you are the washington insider– when washington gets its prostate checked, it tickles you.”

Both Jon Stewart and Glenn Beck and all of his critics are exactly right about Newt being wrong for this country and as labeling himself as anything remotely conservative and researching his political track record would prove that as he’s consistently sided with liberals over his own party, which is why he was pushed to leave his position as House speaker because he didn’t represent the interests of the right and even demonized the right in their conservative ideologies.

I’m sorry, but Gingrich duped South Carolina voters. I‘m under 25 and I’ve lived in SC for about a year, but I’m from Portland—the one with the weed, the hippies, and the really bad indie folk music, not the one with all those eldritch abominations, rabid dogs, and pyrokinetic kids running loose. This guy isn’t a conservative. Every trick he pulled in the SC debates was pure pandering and I cannot believe my peers bought the crap he was dishing out. Do we all have the attention spans of brain damaged goldfish? Records speak. This was despicable. South Carolina is a laughing stock for going with Newt Gingrich. Values voters? Evangelicals? While I don’t adhere to everything they believe especially about homosexuals, they’re going to look like the biggest hypocrites in the nation. It’s really sad. South Carolina has endured so many political embarrassments that I honestly feel bad about moving here.

regardless of Gingrich’s conservative/repulican status, i LOVE the way he rips into these liberal zombie obama slobberers. i thought the media was cheap during the 08 election but they are pulling out all the stops this time. just take a look at the way the two sides are questioned: obama is asked a bunch of cotton candy questions that sound 100% scripted-his answers SURELY are…and Newt Gingrich is asked a question about his marriage??? what does that have to do with the economy and the war on terror? WHY CANT ANY OF THESE SPINELESS CANDIDATES START SHOUTING THE QUESTIONS WE ALL WANT ANSWERED??? if the media is so interested in the repub candidates personal life, why can’t they ask obambam the same questions? why cant we see the REAL birth certificate? why are you trying to hide your school records? why all the ILLEGAL, UNCONSTITUTIONAL appointments???? these candidates need to GROW A PAIR already

He came to Florida, campaigned hard for me, and made a real difference in my race.” 01/24/2012 – oh yeah.

Mr. Stewart is 100% on the mark!

It is obvious we need to go to a brokered Convention and nominate Sarah Palin/Allen West.

Sarah MUST RUN! To Win We Need a CHRISTIAN, a WOMAN and a BLACK and she provides two out of three!

Why not West/Palin, you wonder? Just because the sitting president is part African (i.e. ‘mulatto”) is no reason to lead our ticket with a ‘real black’ but inexperienced politician (recently discharged career Army officer).

We actually need to beat a working, experienced black administration that will someday be led by Hillary, so to win we must go Godly Woman President — Pure Black Vice President.

Mybe he bashes Republicans more because they’re so dumb to think Newt,Santorum, and Romney have a chance against Obama. Newt is contradiction personified. And he’s so good at it he makes me want to agree with him on both sides of his issues. Stewart’s writers are on point about how it should not have been a positive for Newt. Silver tongued devil he is.

Stewart nailed it, funny what truth can do. Newt pulled it off with SC, like dogs to the vomit, all he needed to be is the historian and say it’s all good that it was ice cream for him. For Newt to be the front runner is a real telling and sad day for the GOP. But give him credit, he called it when he said people only care what says not what he does. The 7 out of 10 SC evangelicals should hang their heads in shame going for this Washington progressive just because of their own religious views. If Newt was so repentant why did he not just say that he caused this woman tremendous pain and he was wrong, instead of the deflecting rants against the media or his goodly ol’ grandpa line abusing his relationships by always throwing his grand children between him and the adultery issues. His arrogance and self conceit will soon come to full light if only America wakes up and isn’t taking in by his one liners.

      WHITEFALL,
      Get over yourself.
Newt’s rightful ire at the debate was that King thought it was an appropriate OPENING debate question. It was not!
King deserved the takedown that he received.

We are 16 trillion in debt. We have an administration that is destroying our military in the midst of a war against Islamofascism. There is just too much amiss to mention here.
Yet, C.N.N. Kool Aid drinker John King opens the debate with a National Enquirer question?

I do not give a flying feather about ANYTHING except what these Presidential Candidates are going to do to save our COUNTRY!

Read HISTORY! Some of the greatest leaders in the world had very messy personal lives!
Gingrich is 68 freaking years old. I believe his “LOTHARIAN” days are in his past.

BTW, a million seconds is 12 days. A billion seconds is 31 years. A trillion seconds is 31,688 years.
Our debt is 16 trillion and President Dunham wants more. It is insanity!

I want a President who can lead us out of this mess!
And frankly…,if he can do it?…,I do not care if he establishes a harem 3 doors down from the Lincoln Bedroom!

The TEA Party started WHEN BUSH WAS IN OFFICE.

ALL THESE PEOPLE BLAMING OBAMA FOR ALL OUR PROBLEMS JOINED AFTERWARDS.

Bush doubled the size of the Department of Education, signed TARP, increased spending, raised our National Debt Ceiling, got us trillions of dollars IN DEBT, didn’t secure the borders, illegal immigration increased, gun rights were attacked, violation of rights on the presumption that we’re all “possible terrorists” were undertaken, sent OUR TROOPS to patrol OUR STREETS after 9/11, allowed the National Guard and City Police to CONFISCATE OUR GUNS in New Orleans, hastily passed the Patriot Act with virtually no time to review it, had the Federal Reserve print massive amounts of paper money to fund Government waste, created of several federal agencies including the TSA, had checkpoints set up 100 miles INSIDE OUR BORDERS, gave the FBI authority to search homes without warrants, allowed FEMA to dictate what our Rights should be during declared emergencies, started wars in numerous countries, expanded the federal Government, wrote dozens of Executive Orders, signed the NAU treaty, went along with the UN’s Agenda 21, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were empowered during his terms, the DHS labeled American patriots as “home grown terrorists”, ETC.

      OBAMA IS JUST A CONTINUATION.

We can defeat Obama, but if we don’t learn from our past, and ignore the huge failure both Establishments have been, we’re still going to have the SAME FREAKING PROBLEMS!

Gingrich’s response to the question was, in his own words, “pious baloney”. And the people of South Carolina lapped it up like the sheeple they are. We have ONE honorable man running for President, and people refuse to listen to him because he dares to say that bombing other nations isn’t going to make them willing to listen to us (and the Iran isn’t going to dare using a nuclear weapon, even if they were to get one). People run around like chickens with their heads cut off when the politicians fabricate this fear as if we have history of our nuclear armed enemies nuking us (despite the US being the only nation to have ever used a nuclear weapon).
