Jonah Goldberg Joins ‘Real News From The Blaze’ to Discuss His New Book ‘Tyranny of Cliches’

With all the talk of Occupy Wall Street and the movement’s fractioned and difficult to decipher political ideology and group of supporters, it seems only appropriate that the “Real News” panel was joined Tuesday by the National Review’s Jonah Goldberg to discuss his new book “Tyranny of Cliches.”

Goldberg explained that the basic argument of his book is that while conservatives have a distinct ideology connected to individual and economic freedom, liberals refuse to concede that they have an ideology at all. Goldberg points to examples where liberal politicians dodge the idea of personal ideology or spin what are real philosophical divergences, by labeling conservative ideology as ignorance or dishonesty to achieve ulterior motives.

“They’re always questioning the motives of the right,” Goldberg said of liberals as they find themselves on the losing end of disagreements with conservatives.

“Since they can’t admit they have an ideology of their own, it manifests itself in weird places, and it comes out in these cliches.”

Goldberg explains that such cliches may come out as seemingly harmless, but in reality are deeply loaded ideological arguments. Examples Goldberg gave on the show were the term “social justice” and the phrase “one man‘s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.”

When asked by Will Cain what Goldberg believes the real liberal ideology is, the author speculated that it is the progressive dogma that “the state is the engine of history.”

One of those tyrannical cliches is the constant attributing of Bolshevik atrocities only to Stalin, as if Communism is in general good, but it’s Stalin who distorted and [partially] discredited Socialism.
Nothing can be father from Truth: Bolshevik hideous crimes against humanity started under and by direct order by Lenin and his accomplices – Trotsky, Sverdlov, Kamenev, Zinoviev and huge number of other thugs alike.

But this cliche affected not only Liberasts who still praise Socialism, but the Blaze as well.

Something worse: the Blaze even constantly blocks my posts where I criticize them for it (for instance: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/forward-for-communism-is-obamas-new-forward-slogan-really-a-coincidence/comment-page-7/#comment-3339838)

Right SPQR1, Stalinism was an aberration, totally unlike the wonderful “socialism in general” that so often occurs in nature.

Try reading what I said again, this time for CONTENT. I made no statements of endorsement as you imply.

You seem to skip over content as well. You are making a nonsensical distinction. One is a textbook definition and the other is that idea put into practice. Animal Farm may criticize the one while embracing the other, but that just makes the author naive.

I suggest you actually read something about Orwell, specifically about what he saw the Stalinist agents doing in Spain. Meaning, what you might call naive, those of us who actually know something of the subject call first hand knowledge. Also, Stalinism isn’t socialism, you’re engaging in the typical small-minded conflation of the Conservative mind.

And Tyranny of Cliches? That’s for all of you who either were asleep in the 90s, or never heard of Frank Luntz. Another useless Goldberg tome that amounts to a huge lie of endless omissions. I guess that’s what passes for Conservative “scholarship.”

the author speculated that it is the progressive dogma that “the state is the engine of history.”: So, what liberal actually said that? Name names? You can’t pin that on Marxism when Marx ACTUALLY said that History is driven by a combination of both States and Individuals. But, I suspect none of you actually know that, and that Goldberg is again, taking out of his butt……

Goldberg’s only claim to fame is that his fake journalist, Nixonite mother, was the person who told Linda Tripp to commit a crime an tape Monica Lewinsky. He is in no way the scholar, historian or journalist that he pretends to be. He has no credentials. Perfect for the Beckian world, full of other failed writers who can‘t get jobs anywhere else and don’t even see the same colors that rational humans do.

Boy they are just finally figuring this out? Good job Blaze! This is Marxist critical theory from the 1930′s Frankfurt School. The theory is to criticize. Unrelenting and base criticism of all things pertaining to Western culture.

can’t argue with that one. no other book has helped form my worldview on american history than Liberal Fascism and if this one is anywhere near as good, than it’s definitely a must buy.

Every time he was challenged on his premise, on multiple occasions, falsely claimed that there is no actual definition of Fascism. Either that was a repeated lie, or he didn’t even do the most basic research that a pimply-faced untergrad could have done. His entire premise is proven completely false by ACTUALLY READING Mussolini’s explanation of Fascism. And you only have to get to page ten. I’ll assume none of you even know about the book, let alone what’s in it.

Jonah sounds much like Thomas Sowell. Dr. Sowell talks about “arguments without argument” when referring to the babbling pronouncements of the Left. Their circular reasoning, straw men and diversionary tactics when confronted with an actual argument are desperate attempts to draw attention away from fact, truth and solid challenges to their worldview. It is a fact that Democratically-controlled federal and state Congresses fought the Civil Rights laws, voted down the 19th amendment (TWICE), which gave women the vote, and enacted Jim Crow laws. Yet no liberal will accept that, and will try to deflect the facts with attacks on individual Republicans or bring up totally unrelated issues. It‘s like they can’t handle the truth…..

“the state is the engine of history.”

UHhhhh…can anyone say ‘Animal Farm’? most of the under thirty-five crowd probably does not know what that is, yet most of the same set that read here will know this story.

Oh by the way – did you know the book was written by a socialist?

Of course they don’t. I’d bet the farm that not one of the TeaBeckians had ever even heard of “Homage to Catalonia,” let alone read it….. It’s obvious that none of them know that Animal Farm was a criticism of STALINISM, not socialism in general.
