Joy Behar Decries VA Abortion Law Requiring Ultrasound: ‘Is This the Taliban? Are we in Afghanistan?’

The View host Joy Behar is not one to shy away from outlandish assertions. Still, comparing a Virginia law requiring women to view an ultrasound of their unborn fetus prior to undergoing an abortion to the oppressive, often violent practices of the Taliban, might be taking things just a bit too far.
Newsbusters brings us the video:
CBSNews.com described the law:
One issue that has come under the microscope with relation to the ultrasound bill is its requirement that some women undergo a transvaginal ultrasound probe, which is considered more physically invasive than other procedures.
While the bill does not explicitly mandate the use of transvaginal ultrasounds, many women would inevitably be required to undergo them; in the early stages of pregnancy, that procedure is often the only form of ultrasound that can detect a fetus’ heartbeat.
NewsBusters provides the transcript:
JOY BEHAR: There’s a couple of bills pending in Virginia. One of them is that women will be required to undergo sonograms, ultrasound when they are about to have an abortion and the other one is that if a heartbeat isn’t detected, then they will get a trans-vaginal ultrasound which is basically going into the vagina and very intrusive. Now, there is no — as far as I can tell there is no other Procedure including MRIs and cancer treatments that are mandated. This is- would be a mandated treatment for girls who are pregnant to see the child, the infant, the fetus-

BEHAR: -whatever at that point is before they get the abortion and if they can’t hear a heartbeat then they will have to undergo an ultrasound vaginal sonogram which I had one of those. I had one of those because I had benign tumors on my ovaries a few years ago and it was extremely intrusive and invasive.
ELISABETH HASSELBECK: It’s uncomfortable. I agree with you.
BEHAR: It’s like, what are we? What is this, the Taliban now? What are we, in Afghanistan? Where are we exactly in this country?
Behar flat-out rejected the ultrasound requirements, dubbing it: “so frickin‘ intrusive to a woman’s body.”

They are in favor of small government but (as I think TIFOSA said) they want a government so small that it fits into a woman’s ******. They say they want they want to get government out of your life, but if you are female, they don’t mind so much requiring you to have an ultrasound probe inserted into your ******. They are against regulation, but don’t have a problem with requiring a doctor to perform and a patient to undergo the totally, completely medically unnecessary procedure of inserting a probe into a woman’s ******. They don’t want insurance to cover all female prescriptions (all male prescription are covered of course), but they don‘t mind stiffing the insurance company for the medically unnecessary insertion of objects into women’s ******. Or is the woman forced to pay for a she doesn’t want?
I think Behar’s reference was to virginity checks by the Taliban. Yeah, that’s an overblown analogy. What’s not overblown is the government dictating that doctors must perform medically unnecessary procedures on their patients, not for health reason, but for political ones.

Report Post »I think they are just trying to address this fraud that these abortion clinics are putting out. Places like Planned Parenthood markets themselves to be a women’s health clinic. Providing family planning and reproductive advice as well as breast cancer screenings and counseling for pregnant young mothers. But it is all a front just like the mob utilizes. They are industrial abortion mills. Their business is killing and business is booming. They talk to these young pregnant girls in stages and then close them on the idea that abortion is a no consequence, easy way for a second chance at responsibility. They even send in a closer to close the deal. This new law just insures that these young women have the full picture of what they are doing. When they see that the baby is already starting to form and moves on its own, has its own heartbeat, many of these young women change their mind. If you can save just one, the law was a success. Killing your child should never be an easy process.

As a former lay counselor at a pregnancy crisis clinic, I can verify all that. And so many moms have been “saved” through seeing ultrasounds – usually deciding not to get the abortions and afterwards do not regret that decision.
This is the best thing to “come down the pike” that is right, for once !!!

A few years ago, WV considered legislation to mandate dental care for children… lobbied for (oddly enough) by dentists. Go figure. The plan was to report parents to CPS if they didn’t meet a mandated schedule of services. This proposal was a busybody approach arguably based on good intentions (that would’ve happened to open up more Medicaid funding to the dental world and line their pockets).

The further we go down this road, the more EVERYONE will have to contend with this type of garbage. Posted on February 16, 2012 at 8:13pmWhatever. Basically, I can tell you these young girls are being told that all a baby is is a blob of cells. That it’s the same as cancer. How do I know this? Because it is what I was taught in school. I never became pregnant, so I never faced the decision – but a lot of my friends did. At least two of my friends were pregnant with twins and the abortion only got one of the babies while badly damaging the second. Both suffered severely while their body miscarried the second child. Had they known that they were carrying actual children I doubt they would have had the abortions. These girls are being lied to – they NEED to SEE that what they carry isn’t a blob – it’s a CHILD! Quite different than having your teeth cleaned!

And medical evidence was being cited in WV about how poor dental hygiene can be linked to all kinds of health concerns, including the #1 killer of Americans, heart disease. So having a law set up that could lead 2 govt. saying “Hey, we DEMAND you get your teeth cleaned… or we’ll take action that could lead 2 your child being made a ward of the state” is in the same realm. Report Post »If any pregnant individual is so ignorant as to not know what the end result of her condition is, then by all means, any responsible medical professional should offer to sit down & explain the birds & the bees along with a brief lesson on fetal development. But this is like the asinine claim that some people still don’t know smoking is generally bad for you… it may not kill you with cancer, but it will affect your health. What is the logic argument that assumes a pregnant female doesn’t know the end result is a human child? There is none… just mental gymnastics.

If people only Knew just What sanger was up to with her 'birth control movement'…..it had Absolutely Nothing to do with 'Women's Rights', and Everything to do with Destroying the Undesirable Black Population…..Margret Sanger was a racist bar none….it was her Greatest Desire to 'cause the blacks to go extinct'……short of sterilization (tho That was forcably done as well, during her time), 'birth control' was sanger's own method of Black Genocide.

The women lifts up her top, the doctor squeezes some jell and then rubs the wand over the belly to take a picture and that is intrusive? Please, opening your mouth is more intrusive than an Ultrasound.

Posted on February 17, 2012 at 9:47amYou are ignorant and showing it.A regular ultrasound is done that way.A transvaginal ultrasound is done by inserting a probe into the ******.Its not usually done in very early pregnancy unless they feel something may be wrong.It increases the risk of miscarriage sorry I don’t remember the exact percentage of increase.Most doctors would order one if they felt the women may be too far along for the methods used in first trimester abortions.Otherwise its only used at delivery or for diagnostic reasons.

Posted on February 16, 2012 at 11:37pmThat is not a good analogy.They are getting ready to have a large syringe inserted beyond that point to swath the baby in hypertonic saline, and then a suction device, probes, and forceps are inserted to break the small body into pieces so that the pieces can be removed through the suction device. The ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure to evaluate if a heart beat can be found. It is not distant to the site of the upcoming procedure, and can be a useful tool so that they have additional data for the patient to have a more informed consent. This is a logical process followed in most medical procedures. The only reason not to perform this, is to withold information from the patient so that they do not have information which may disuade them from continuing on.
