Juan Williams on Gingrich‘s ’Food Stamps President’ Comment: ‘I Don’t Think He Answered the Question at All’

Debate moderator and Fox contributor Juan Williams appeared on Tuesday’s episode of “The Five” to fill in for host Bob Beckel. Williams, who has generated tremendous media attention following his debate performance, took the opportunity to delve into what many call one of the best — and now most widely discussed — moments of the evening.

Williams, who asked presidential contender Newt Gingrich if using the term “food stamps president” in reference to President Obama might be considered condescending to some, especially minorities, said he believes the former House Speaker didn’t answer the question posed to him at all.

Gingrich did, however, deliver a fiery retort that evening, telling Williams that more Americans have been placed on food stamps under Obama than any other president in history. Williams was also unceremoniously booed during the same question and answer segment. He joked to his fellow Fox hosts that he had, however, been warned that there was a chance he might endure such jeers.

      Your all foolish and certainly don’t represent the majority of conservatives. What Newt did was ensure he won’t get elected even if he does win the nomination. Whether you people realize it or not, 50% of the familys in America are on food stamps right now. Many, not because they want too, trust me, but because they have paid into this system their entire life and it is their right to get a little help so their family doesn’t suffer. All you people and especially Newt Gingrich did was humiliate a large portion of the electorate and most certainly appeared to be racist and insensitive to minorities. Personally, I am appalled by the reaction I have seen last night and on the Blaze. I did hear the silent majority boo Newt before the overwhelming response from the Evangelical crowd.
      Look, I understand what you all are saying Newt meant and even agree, but that isn’t how he approached it. His ignorant and arrogant “No”, was unsettling, and seriously caused me to be embarrassed as the crowd cheered him on. Now everybody wants to tout him as some kind of champion or something. Who are you Christians ? I understand you libertarians, but the rest of you have no understanding how bad some people are struggling right now. This will hurt the general election if Newt is elected.       I liked what Gingrich had to say. Definitely better than Romney no comparison. The establishment hates him. I do not know why though, but is only a plus.

      I have always liked Gingrich, Perry, Santorum, Bachman, and Cain.

      The problems are/were;

      Ron Paul ( L ) not ( R ) Obvious reasons
      Huntsman ( R ) but just weird, His wife and kids were more articulate than he was
      Romney ( ? ) I would have to say he is a Democrat. I just don’t see anything he did that was conservative. Even working in the private sector.

      The Wall Street Journal has a fiqure of 13.8% of Americns are on food stamps. CNN Money has it at 15% of Ameicans. Key word Americans. Can you guide me to a report to back up the 50% of families. According to your claim 1 in 2 familes are on food stamps. What is this food stamp system that everyone has paid into? I’ve not noticed that deduction on my paycheck.
      As far as the boo’s go, weren’t they booing Juan when he mentioned the race thing?

My friend behind the counter pointed them to the ATM. They with-drew cash, bought the beer and left. I do not speak Spanish so I asked my friend what happened and this is what he told me. They had only been in the USA for 3 months and were already collecting SSDI. What a joke!!!!

And I get really *issed by the baby daddy or future baby daddy painted and covered with tattoos everywhere who waits at the end of line for the bags full of Infamil, cheese, BIg Red soda,ice cream,T-bones and BRISKETS?, No money food, just more tats.Oh hold up, now I have to wait for the 2 cases of BEER, Bleach, and woolite to be paid separate with a $100 bill! And the countefeit pen comes out. I guess I can wait a little longer to pay for my 6 pack of Ramen, ground chuck, eggs, Stayfree, and SMALL milk all at once.       You know as us, the tax payers, gave the FED the pre-verbial finger and didn’t pay our taxes in a whole( 1mil or more) we could stop some of this. How could they arrest 1mil or more of us? hey couldn’t. We could use it as a “no taxation without representation” movement; because none of our elected officials REALLY represent us as the tax payer… I’m tired of the government telling me that I need to pay a tax and not showing me where it actually goes. I started earning when I as 12 years old cut the nieghborlawns,raking leaves,pulling weeds,washing cars,painting …ect And when I turned 14 I got a job bagging groceries after school. I had to as my family was really poor and if I want things I had to earn them. When I turned 16 my Dad fell ill and had five bypasses to his heart. I had to quit school get a full time job and cover us for a while.

      I think that his question though from the left allowed Newt to take a strong stand . Newt calmly explained things in a way that people could understand. It was another attempt by the left to pull the race card. That fired up the audience and after Newt was done Juan could not defend his progressive point of view. He helped Newt . As a viewer I like it that both sides are given a chance to speak. After hearing their opinions it has proven to me and helped me form an opinion that progressives are radical extremeist. Juan , whetether he meant to or not exposed the left as the true racist that they are. People are tired of the race card being abused by the left. Juan seems like a decent but misguided man that wants to cling to the belief the democrats are for his people. However he does understand that he was sacrificed by his past employer. Why, because HE made a racist comment about muslims. (at least according to progressives) HE was thrown under the bus by his own side. He is following the rules that are expected of him. I don’t hate him or even dislike him, I just DO NOT agree with him. Allot of independents watch FOX as well as Democrats. It helps our side in the long run. That is why FOX has the highest ratings. I started watching FOX because I thought it was odd that the mainstream media had nothing but praise for the democrats and constant bashing of republicans. It was obvious that they were not reporting the news they were instead minipulating it.

      hired full time by FOX I’ve noticed that weekly he keeps getting more and more liberal. And thanks
      to Ms GlennBC for naming all those folks who are (according to Fair & Balanced Fox News) think these people are necessary for the balance, I beg the difference. These people are so far LEFT that they disgust even me for wasting my time with their hate filled rhetoric.
      I’m tired of having to listen to them and what crap they spew constantly. In fact, I’ve been feeling for some time, maybe I’ll have to give up FOX except for certain ones I really enjoy, like Greta.

      One big difference between the Democrats et al, and the Republicans and Conservatives is, Dems push race, Republicans and Conservatives tend to push the people. Newt proved this point by pointing out “all people”, where Juan wanted to divide and compartmentalize issues. As said before, poor and rich are not along colored lines in this country, which not all countries can say, and the Dems want to continue that in this country.

      Wasn’t it Benjamin Franklin, when asked what to do to the freeloaders and those wanting to survive off handouts and how to deal with these problems say, “The best way to get people off the dole is to take them out of their comfort zone.” Juan was pandering to a group in the American melting pot and he stepped into the hornet’s nest at the behest of hundreds of emails on the subject and should have known better than that, but he stepped into the trap. Ron Paul did the same thing. His partial truth of breaking down a percentage of incarcerated people doesn’t tell the whole story. We have done such a good job trying to erase ethnic lines to tear the country apart, all people are created equal, Juan needs to remember that, Newt had it right.
