‘Judgment Day May 21, 2011′: Man Spends Life Savings Proclaming End of Days

Robert Fitzpatrick is convinced the world will end this Saturday, May 21, 2011. In fact, he‘s so convinced that he’s poured his life savings into letting people in New York City know. Fitzpatrick has spent at least $140,000 in proclaiming “judgement day.”
“Judgment Day will surprise people. We will not be ready for it,” Fitzpatrick told the New York Post. “A giant earthquake will render the earth uninhabitable.”
For the record, that quake will reportedly happen at 6 pm ET.
“God’s people will be resurrected. It is also the day that God stops saving anyone,” he explained.
In order to get the word out, Fitzpatrick has spent his life savings on 1,000 subway-car placards and ads on bus kiosks and subway cars. The ads are simple: “Global Earthquake: The Greatest Ever! Judgment Day May 21, 2011.”
Fitzpatrick’s predictions are included in a self-published book, “The Doomsday Code.“ He said the Bible offers ”proof that cannot be dismissed.” The Post explains, however, that the book is based off of a man who has been wrong before:
Fitzpatrick’s book is based on the teachings of Harold Camping, an 89-year-old radio host with a poor track record of end-of-the-world prophecies.
Camping also predicted the world would end on Sept. 6, 1994.
When the sun rose per normal the next day, Camping went back to his Bible and tried to figure out why he was wrong.
Camping’s group, familyradio.com, is buying billboards nationwide spreading his prophecy.
On a recent Friday in Manhattan, I experienced Fitzpatrick’s marketing first-hand. Mobs of people holding up signs saying “Christ Returns! May 21, 2011 Judgement Day” lined the sidewalks. They also hung similar messages around their necks. In addition, a caravan of RVs slugged its way through Times Square, all with the same message.
That message includes a link to a website, Familyradio.com, where readers can view a multimedia version of the doomsday prophecy. A similar video is available on YouTube:
Wecanknow.com, also part of the movement and mentioned in the above video, trumpets the same message, and has been buying up billboards and trucks across the country to broadcast the end:
In a video posted on YouTube, Camping can be seen refusing to discuss what might happen if May 21 turns out not to be judgement day. According to him, “It is going to happen.” No question:
So how does Fitzpatrick react to questions about Camping being wrong in the past?
“I don’t want to talk about it. I don’t want to think about it,” he told the Post.

May 21 has no significance on the Hebrew calendar.May 21 is Iyyar 17th and it is the 32 day of the counting of the omer which is between Passover and Pentecost.

Posted on May 16, 2011 at 12:39pmCouldn’t have said it better myself. Like most Christians who come to know the Lord, I too was taught this view until I finally sought the Lord and the truth of what the scriptures say about the rapture and return of Jesus. The pre-tribulation view of the rapture was not taught in churches till Darby and Scofield got their erroneous interpretation and subsequent spreading of this doctrine until it was considered mainstream orthodox teaching by the mid 1900′s. Other interpretations were either rejected or considered heretical especially the Post Tribulation view of the rapture which I subscribe to and an increasingly larger number of people are too. Remember Acts 17:11 ..”Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” We too need to be diligent and not just take everything at face value.

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 4:07pmRather than be caught up in dubious interpretations about the end of times, folks should instead be focused on getting spiritually ready for judgment regardless of when it comes. We were not told the hour for that very purpose. Being ready means we should prepare for a long delay, like the virgins of Matthew 25:1. This all reminds me of Y2K when people sold all they had and hoarded food and weapons.

One question: How does one “prepare for Judgement Day” when all when in fact be judged? You have either lived your life with the belief in and of God and His ways or you haven’t. Oops, a second question, will liberals be judged or sent straight to hell?
This guy is betting he comes in first ahead of the Mayan calander and Nostradamus prediction of December, 2011. One thing that really ticks me off though is that if the world does end on the 21st, I won’t see the History Channel airing a “Oops! We didn’t mean it.”

I am sorry to bring such a critical and horrible thought to you such as suicide, but this has happened to others in the past that put their faith in a man and believe such teachings. Heresy is a doctrine that is preached that is not based on scripture. This man is a heretic, i am not judging his soul, but i can tell a lemon tree from an apple tree, and the fruit that this man is bearing is not vindicated by the Word of God. You are right. As snow and others have said, “no one knows when Christ will return”. But we are to always be prepared (as in having our hearts turned towards God) and not put a basket over our lamps. If we lived 10 years ago we were to be prepared. If we lived 100 years ago…or 2000 years ago, we were to be prepared. There is no prediction, ever, that will be accurate.
We are truly in the “season” and should be watching, listening and being obedient to all scripture intended for the saints. However, it may be next year, ten years from now, forty years from now, possibly more. Just be prepared in your hearts. Interesting that no body mentions the controversies surrounding pre-trib, mid-trib or post trib raptures. What is certain is that there will be a tribulation period. Just be prepared and trust in the Lord with all your hearts, souls and minds.
As for me, it does not matter. The cross was my preparedness. Nothing else needs be said.

“But of that day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.” Matthew 24:36 (RSV)
“But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Mark 13:32 (RSV)

29Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41Two women

George tried everything in the book just to get the guy to agree to be penciled in for an interview on the 22nd…but the guy refused to even discuss it. He was like “No, I won’t even discuss it. This is a done deal. It will all be over. We won’t be here.”
When George pressed him on the whole “Rapture” thing and how some people will be left…the guy was adamant “There will be NO ONE LEFT! This is the end.”
The guy did not take calls if I remember correctly..cause I was going to ask him to send me all his money since he would not need it.
I think a lot of older people play into this doomsday stuff…because it will be sort of like “suicide by God” …they want out of this world, they hate the world, hate their lives…and want to end it all and move on. But they won’t kill themselves and risk damnation.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
Prevent #5348 phthano; precede. They’re already with Him.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
Spirit #7306 ruwach = to blow i.e. breathe
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Report Post »4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Many people use this verse to support the “Rapture” theory. Clouds #3509 nephos, is the same word used by Paul in Hebrews 12:1 ‘Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.’ Cloud = Throng

Air #109 aer; to breath unconsciously, i.e. respire or #5594 psucho to breathe (voluntarily but gently). It is not air #3772 ouranos; heaven, sky. We’ll meet The Lord in our Spiritual bodies –
Not in the flesh. Not in the sky.
1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed.
The Lord comes at the seventh trump, seventh seal, seventh vial. Seven, in Biblical numerics is Spiritual completeness.
15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
15:56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mark 13:27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

Posted on May 16, 2011 at 9:43amMost modern day Christians here in America have lost the real meaning of scripture passages dealing with the last days, and the return of our Redeemer. This well intentioned soul is one of them. The scriptures were written from not only from a middle eastern custom or point of view, but also, from a Torah reference. Without those references, and with many preachers and televangelist over the years have caused a great deal of misunderstanding.
Most of the scriptures in both the original covenant, and the renewed covenant is prophetic about the end times. Prophecy after prophecy has been given for the end times. Those that choose to ignore or misinterpret these will never understand. Noah preached for about 100 years and no one either understood what he said or outright dismissed it. Jonah went to a foreign nation and reluctantly preached, they believed and were saved from destruction.
This well intentioned person totally misunderstands our Creators signals and way points in time. You are correct in “NO man knows the HOUR”. With that said (Matt 24:36, 42, &50 , Mark 13:32, Luke 12:46) Our Messiah, Savior, had not been crucified, and had not been and accepted by Yahweh as an atonement. Before that atonement, NO one was qualified to answer that question. At this point in time a number of things MUST come to pass BEFORE the return of our Savior. AND those things wont happen before this day in May, 2011.
Soon, but not yet!!! Pray for the peace of Jerusalem

How on earth do these folks think they know anything. I do believe Jesus will return to take me home to be with Him but the only thing scripture says we can know is the general season of His return and the signs of the times, and I do believe we are in that general time frame where these things will begin to unfold, but as for exact dates there is NO WAY for them or anyone of us to conclusively know this specifically. All Jesus told us to do was to be prepared and always live in a state of rediness because when He does return it will be like a Thief in the night, suddenly and without warning. The only warning we need is what has been given to us in God’s Word. He that endures unto the end shall be saved or (rescued)

You are using the wrong “christian” reasoning. “Thief in the night” refers to the speed not the level of secrecy. There is no secret rapture; that is dispensationalist non-sense rehashed by Tim LaHaye and those that like to white-wash(Caucasianize) The Scriptures .
The correct eschatology is the Fall Feasts just as it was with the Spring Festivals.(His First Coming). Yom Teruah/Rosh Hashanah – a warning to prepare yourself. Yom Kippur – the High Priest Appears (”jesus’s” second coming). Sukkoth – believers reside with Messiah.
Read Rev 3:3. He says if you DO NOT watch/wake up He will come on you like a thief… hmmm… then what is the opposite reasoning if you DO watch? Hmm… what are you watching? Rumors of war? Blood red moon? That stuff has happen many, many times.

Harold Camping’s Math:
“Christ hung on the cross April 1, 33 A.D.,” he began. “Now go to April 1 of 2011 A.D., and that’s 1,978 years.”
Camping then multiplied 1,978 by 365.2422 days — the number of days in each solar year, not to be confused with a calendar year.
Next, Camping noted that April 1 to May 21 encompasses 51 days. Add 51 to the sum of previous multiplication total, and it equals 722,500.
Camping realized that (5 x 10 x 17) x (5 x 10 x 17) = 722,500.
Or put into words: (Atonement x Completeness x Heaven), squared.

Those things written about in Revelation were given to the 1st century Christians so that they could be warned to get out of Jerusalem when the time came(which the destruction occurred in AD 70). The reason Revelation was written the way it was, was so that should Romans get a hold of it they would read it and think it was nothing but gibberish. Kind of like a code. We do know one thing though that it is appointed for man once to die, after this the judgment. No rapture, no millennial reign, no great war with a seven headed beast (Rome) with ten horns (the ten provinces of Rome). Just Jesus’ return to signify Judgment Day in which all mankind will be judged then, eternity.

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 7:25amI do apologize, but I must ask: What if Jesus has already returned? What if he walks among you now? Does a thief announce loudly to all that will hear that he is a thief? When you were all advised to be “ready” did that mean that you would know Jesus if you ran across him? Would you know a thief by his clothing, or his manner, or the way he talks? Or were you really advised to be “ready” spiritually, to treat others as you would yourself and strive in all minutes of every day to be a better person before God, the Father?
One other question, and again I apologize if I upset anyone: What is the significance of Isaiah 24, aka Isaiah’s apocalypse? It’s the only chapter of the old testament to which the Jehovah Witnesses cannot attach a single historical event, and believe me, they’ve studied. The Revelation to John seems like a fine Hollywood production compared to Isaiah 24, at least to me, but what would I know anyway?
Did Jesus teach from the Old Testament or the New? Just wondering here.

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 10:52amNoah knew that a flood was coming, but God didn’t give him a date, just a command to build the Ark, and when it was finished, loaded and the doors closed, then the rain would come. The timing of the flood was based upon the actions of man, in this case Noah and the amount of time it took him to build the ark. What if he got ill, and it took him a month longer, would he have been condemned? Ooopsy, no he wouldn’t have. The fulfillment of that prophesy was dependent on MAN, and where they are in the walk. From what I have read there are at the very least 3 different dates that have been found for the “rapture” in bible code. I am willing to bet that there are many more of them, because the “rapture” is dependent upon the actions of man. When we, as the Church, have finished the great commission of preaching to every corner of the world, then our job will be done, and the Jewish clock will begin ticking. I am certain that God knows exactly when it will be. So why didn’t He tell us? It is called living in faith. If we knew the day and hour, then we would be horrid people until the day before, accept Christ and be forgiven. God doesn’t want the last second Christian to be the norm, He wants that to be the light and salt of the earth.

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 11:24amnovelator,
Isaiah chapter 24 is foretelling the desolation of Judah and how there would be no rejoicing in that fact. Some would survive the destruction but for the unfaithful ones, there will be no escaping Jehovah’s judgments. Why is this to happen to Judah? It is to teach them a lesson and to help them understand God’s sovereignty. Isaiah 24: 21-23

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 1:28pmSometimes when you want something bad enough you begin to believe it is true no matter how foolish it is. Just like democrats they want FauxBama to be successful and they are in denial even after they lost their house, their car and their job. They are still believing in the change in their pockets.

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 2:09pmI need to correct my comment to novelator.
I said, “Why is this to happen to Judah?” It should read to convey past tense, Why was this to happen to Judah?

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 2:34pmAgree, and if you bought the 25 to 30 year food stuff…you’re still good to go. And If I am caught up, you can have my car, my house and my dog. Think of it as God’s way to redistribute the wealth. Oh and you can have my SHTF goods and weapons.

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 4:15pmIf you believe in the Bible, that’s correct. Not even Jesus Christ knows when He is returning. Only God the father. If you don’t believe in the Bible, I don’t know what to tell you. But, I am betting that we will all be here on May 22. Amen.

Posted on May 18, 2011 at 1:26amNow, read the very next verse.
It basically goes on to describe how the Lord will warn the world of the coming flood. As in the days of noah, so it will be in the final days.
What make this generation so special. If you believe in a Judgement day, it would have to happen to a generation nonetheless, present or future.
Report Post »By the way, even if you died long before Judgement Day….you will still experience it regardless….dead or alive! Nobody who has ever lived is “off the hook”

Posted on May 18, 2011 at 2:16amIts sad that this guy blew his life savings on this…
Anyone with any sense knows that the end times will be long and drawn-out, and that its wiser to prepare to weather the storm than to blow everything you’ve got on a single frivolous act of “look at meeeee!”

Posted on May 18, 2011 at 2:34amI PERSONALLY appreciate this man’s concern for US. HE coulda spent the money on a ‘last fling” or not bothered to say anything at all except to those closest to him. I say if the 21st comes and goes, we each send him $ 5 to recoup as a thank you. It‘s nice to know someone cares enough about GOD and US to spend his life’s savings.
I’m not sure that he is going to be TOO far off the mark. As a student of REVELATIONS etc… I don‘t believe he’s that far removed from actuality. So thank you, Sir, for caring….and JESUS IS LORD!!
