July Jobs Numbers: Unemployment Falls to 9.1; 117,000 Jobs Added

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hiring picked up slightly in July and the unemployment rate dipped to 9.1 percent, an optimistic sign after the worst day on Wall Street in nearly three years.
The Labor Department says employers added 117,000 jobs last month. That’s an improvement from the past two months.
The mild gain may ease investors’ concerns after the Dow Jones industrial average plummeted more than 500 points over concerns that the U.S. may be entering another recession.
Still, the economy needs twice as many net jobs per month to rapidly reduce unemployment. The rate has topped 9 percent in every month except two since the recession officially ended in June 2009.
The unemployment rate fell partly because some unemployed workers stopped looking for work. That means they are no longer counted as unemployed.

Should have used high radiation, well deserved for their incredible ignorance!!

Posted on August 5, 2011 at 12:07pmI 100% agree with you Bhelmet. How many of you actually believe in anything (espectially w.r.t. the economy) that comes out of the idiots in D.C.? What a freaking joke. Looke what they already have done with the jobs report from just a few months back. The market knows this too; Dow’s still dropping like a sieve. Time to wake up folk and kick out all the progressives (from both parties). Time to eat cake is their motto. You know what happened to the French Monarchy soon afterwards. :)

Posted on August 5, 2011 at 9:25amI agree!! Maybe I’m just being stupid or something (after all, I didn’t go to Harvard or Columbia)….but when you’re adding an average of 400,000 newly unemployed per week to the lines and only 154,000 new jobs are allegedly created in the month of July….how is it that that unemployment rate drops? I would think that just to keep the rate level….one would have to create as many jobs as were lost. I don’t get it!! Can anyone explain it??? or is this just Obamanomics??
