‘Justice for Trayvon’: Alabama Man in Critical Condition After Mob Beating

Mobile police need your help to catch a mob that beat Matthew Owens so badly that he’s in critical condition.
According to police, Owens fussed at some kids playing basketball in the middle of Delmar Drive about 8:30 Saturday night. They say the kids left and a group of adults returned, armed with everything but the kitchen sink.
Police tell News 5 the suspects used chairs, pipes and paint cans to beat Owens.
Owens’ sister, Ashley Parker, saw the attack. “It was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed.” Parker says 20 people, all African American, attacked her brother on the front porch of his home, using “brass buckles, paint cans and anything they could get their hands on.”
What Parker says happened next could make the fallout from the brutal beating even worse. As the attackers walked away, leaving Owen bleeding on the ground, Parker says one of them said “Now thats justice for Trayvon.”
A witness who wants to remain anonymous describes what he says he heard at his front door Saturday night, on Delmar Drive. ”I just kept hearing him screaming, ‘Man, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, man don’t do this,’ ” he recalls.
On the other side of that door was Matthew Owen, who, police and neighbors say, was being beaten by a group of people. The weapons? Bricks, bats, even a paint can.
At first, when he heard his friend at the door, the man thought it was a joke. ”Then I saw about 10 to 15 people from little kids and women with dresses to adult men, just flooding onto the property, surrounding the car, hollering and screaming,” he says. “And then I heard Matthew saying, ‘ I’m sorry, man, I’m sorry. I’m sorry.’ And then, the next thing, before I could get to the door, because we have it all deadbolted and everything, and before I could get it open, I heard all the beating and banging.”
Even family and friends of Matthew Owens admit there was some tension on this street before Saturday night’s event. And they say a lot of this has to do with basketball. Relatives of the victim, who live on the street, say local kids often block Delmar Drive when they play basketball. They say it’s lead to some confrontations. Racial comments from both sides may have made the confrontations more toxic.

This guy and if I’m not mistaken there was another one that took place and the thug said he did it for Travon. With all of these incidents of gangs of African Americans occurring, we need for the authorities to show that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. Once a perp is identified, let squads of heavily armed police break down doors in the middle of the night to effect an arrest. Something has to be done to get the attention of all of the community. Imagine if all 20 were identified and the police using these tactics to arrest each of them. I think the likes of Van Jones, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would realize that they have incited the criminal element once too often.

It is incredible that they have raised so much hell over this Trevon stuff and will not report on a certain hate crime. I was first exposed to this theory in a Pre-law course at Colorado, in 1992. The height of the Columbus Day parades, American Indian Movement, Spike Lee’s movie, “Do the Right Thing,“ ”revisionist history,” etc.
Allow me to reiterate: A group or race that lacks “economic power,” cannot by definition commit a hate crime!
Only in Boulder, or Berkley, or Madison… People actually think like this?

I am sure that if the esteemed AG Holder were asked about this case he would say it was a simple misunderstanding (same as the Hispanic guy killed in the Arizona (or was it NM?) while walking his dog by a black guy at Taco Bell).
I think the creation of the “hate” crime has opened a can of worms. Beaten is beaten. Dead is dead. To elevate something to the level of a “hate” crime requires the ability to know for certain someone’s thinking and motivations AND it also allows the clause to be applied selectively (which is NOT equal justice for all…. it is more justice for some, less for others).

Once you have committed to not being a victim, I would strongly recommend that those of you that can, get a CCW and do so post haste. You should have an automatic handgun (9MM or larger), a semi-auto rifle and a shotgun. Get training on how to use each firearm proficiently and then practice, practice, practice. Run through the scenarios where each of the weapons could/would be used.
The only time you should be unarmed is bathing or sleeping, and then a firearm should be within your reach.
I am 64 and frankly too old to take an @ss beating. No, I never go looking for trouble, but if it finds me, I know what to do.
If Zimmerman is found not guilty (as I believe he will be), all hell will break loose, and you should be able to protect yourself and your loved ones.

I grew up in a poor and racially mixed neighborhood, and most of us got along well, most of the time. Sure there were fights, and sure sometimes we even called each other n!ggr and whitey, but no one retaliated by doing things like this. I think the biggest problem today is the government’s lack of commitment to really prosecute ANYBODY who does something evil to someone else for WHATEVER reason. They didn’t attack him BECAUSE of Trayvon, they attacked him because they are animals. I can’t even imagine being part of a group of people beating someone, no matter what that person did. Something inside me just screams “this is wrong” when I see a mob attacking one person. My first instinct would be to help in some way. Nobody deserves to be attacked by a mob, NOBODY. Even Bin Laden deserved better. This is NOT who we used to be as a country. We need to prove this is noT how most of us are still.
In small groups, all it takes is ONE person to stand up and say “this isn’t right” to change the whole group dynamic. I’ve seen the mob mentality firsthand, and looking back, it’s scary how fast it can escalate.
I’m not saying this to excuse this despicable act, but to say to the good among us to stand up and do what is right, even if the mob seems to be gearing up for something bad. You just might be the ONE voice that brings a little reason to a bad situation.
Truly good people don’t have it in their hearts to do such a deplorable thing. If only there had been one or two good people in that crowd.

She told him she had a gun in the armrest and that she would shoot him if he didn’t let leave (she went so far as to open the armrest and start to reach in) … she was able to bluff him .. she isn’t going to be bluffing the next time .. she is getting a gun and a CCW … we live in Florida .. south of Tampa … and the man was black and she is a blue eyed blonde (like the NBPP was threatening in Tampa) Some people are getting quite bold … and dangerous ..
I hope this man recovers and they catch these animals who tried to KILL HIM.

I am already a VERY good shot ;-) but I am taking my friends … he is also friends with one of the men who is running for sheriff in our area (the real law and order type) and I am supporting his campaign.
