Justice Scalia in Rare TV Interview: I’m Not Feuding With John Roberts Over Obamacare

Antonin Scalia Feuding Roberts Obamacare

Justice Antonin Scalia said in an interview he's not feuding with Chief Justice John Roberts over the health care ruling.

Justice Antonin Scalia is not feuding with Chief Justice John Roberts, despite finding himself on the losing end of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the health care law.

In a rare television interview broadcast Wednesday on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight,” the 76-year-old justice said there’s no truth to recent reports indicating relationships on the court have become strained in the wake of the decision.

“You should not believe what you read about the court in the newspapers,” Scalia said. “Because the information has either been made up or given to the newspapers by somebody who is violating a confidence, which means that person is not reliable.”

Asked whether he has had a “falling out” with Roberts — who joined the liberal wing of the court to uphold the law — Scalia said no.

“No, I haven’t had a falling out with Justice Roberts,” he said.

“Loud words exchanged, slamming of doors?” Morgan pressed.

“No, no, nothing like that,” Scalia replied.

Scalia insisted relationships among justices are cordial and professional: “There are clashes on legal questions but not personally.”

Scalia also defended the 2-year-old decision known as Citizens United, the landmark ruling lifting restrictions on corporate and union campaign spending.

“I think Thomas Jefferson would have said the more speech, the better,” Scalia said. “That’s what the First Amendment is all about. So long as the people know where the speech is coming from.”

The justice said the decision that provides the “most waves of disagreement” is the one that decided the 2000 presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore. Scalia said his message to those upset by the outcome of Bush v. Gore is “get over it.”

“The only question in Bush v. Gore was whether the presidency would be decided by the Florida Supreme Court or the United States Supreme Court,” he said. “It was the only question and it’s not a hard one.”

He said he has no regrets about the court’s decision.

“No regrets at all,” Scalia said. “Especially because it’s clear that the thing would have ended up the same way anyway. The press did extensive research into what would have happened if Al Gore wanted done had been done, county by county, and he would have lost anyway.”

Watch Scalia describe hunting with Vice President Dick Cheney:

“So long as the people know where the speech is coming from.” So this would seem to indicate Scalia believes there should be full disclosure for all political donations. Including SuperPacs.

Let’s look at what he really did with his decision.
He told the federal government that they could not force citizens to buy products so that they could regulate it. (+1 in the conservative column)
He told the states they could opt out of the expansion of medicare (how Obamacare gets paid for) (+1 in the conservative column)
He told the federal government that they could not with hold current medicare payments from states that opted out of medicare expansion (+2 in the conservative column [1 for states rights and 1 for limiting federal government])
He made the mandate a tax which pissed off every conservative and opponent to Obamacare. Who now will become motivated to vote for fiscal conservatives and clean out the senate and house and possibly the white house giving us a conservative government for the next 4 years (+3 in the conservative column)
He did this with the blessing of liberals (while not a + in the conservative column it is kind of a gotcha for later debates)

Call him a traitor all you want but your vision seems to be a bit narrowly focused. Do what Roberts really wants and vote conservative in every and all elections. You are in control of your future…just accept that fact.

Justice Scalia is one of the great ones. I’ve read many of his opinions and I always agree. My biggest fear in this election is the same as last election, the potus may get more appointees to the scotus. Americans have always been held together by our Laws, now the courts are becoming a source of anger and division. When Americans stop trusting the laws and courts, we are truly doomed. We have already lost trust in the law makers.

Piers may not agree with Justice Scalia but Scalia is a Supreme Court Justice and his position is deserving of respect regardless of Piers’ opinions. People of profession (Piers is not) know this!

These men are not leaders I’m willing to follow. If anyone sat me down and tried to convince me I’d call them traitors. If they took offense, I’d draw my dirk and pick up my axe and tell them to walk away.

Everything is Personal. There is No Such Thing as Crazy. To Omit is not a lie unless it is intended to decieve. The Truth is in front of us. We are just blind.

Are you really calling Scalia a progressive? Scalia is THE MOST conservative supreme court justice currently serving.

Besides that, if you think that people should be at each others throats when they disagree politically. In other words, if you think personal fueds should start over political differences, and you think that people that dont behave that way are traitors, then all of the founding fathers with the exception of maybe two are traitors in your eyes.

Chill bro, this country was started on christlike principles. Christ does not support violenet conflict, not even against your enemies, except where it is in self defense. Love thine enemies as thyself.

obama, reid, pelosi and the liberal supreme court justices loaded and pointed the gun at the head of American Liberty AND chief justice roberts pulled the trigger. American liberty officially ended with robert’s opinion and a government without limit was imposed on the American citizen…

Everything to do with American Liberty and unalienable rights of the American citizen endowed by their Creator is no longer protected by the Courts and therefore wholly at the whim and mercy of an oppressive executive branch and congress. Whatever is left that appears as a freedom or personal choice for the American citizen is just something that congress and the executive branches have yet to regulate or mandate – and apparently as long as it compels the citizen under threat of penalty/tax it will pass constitutional muster (as a penalty/tax mechanically ends the argument as to its constitutionality).

The limited government demanded by the United States Constitution has now been disregarded and it can no longer protect the citizen from those in power who are so corrupt that they openly disregard the law. Public servants are now the masters as citizens are relegated to servants whose private property can be redistributed at the will of the government without limit.

Scalia and others who resisted were to be commended, however, now that they have given to cordial acceptance of the end of American Liberty – their profound betrayal of the American Citizen makes them all unfit to serve.

The Left will lose worst in the end. They are the moochers, the non-producers. When the fruits of the work become apparent and all goods are reduced for everyone, it will be the ones that produce nothing that will suffer most. No matter what kind of society they try to build they will not be able to evade their just desserts.
