Justice Sotomayor to Get $1.2 Million for Memoir

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor says she received nearly $1.2 million to write a memoir of her rise from a South Bronx housing project to the nation’s highest court.

Sotomayor reported the payment for the as-yet untitled book from Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group in an annual report of personal finances, released Friday for the justice and her eight colleagues. Knopf revealed last July that Sotomayor had agreed to write the memoir, but the size of the advance had not been public.

The book will come out simultaneously in English and in Spanish, but no release date has been set. Sotomayor is the court’s first Hispanic justice. Her parents moved from Puerto Rico to New York after World War II.

Justice Clarence Thomas also received more than $1 million in advance of the publication of his book, “My Grandfather’s Son,” in 2007.

Thomas reported that his wife, Virginia, received salary and benefits from two conservative advocacy groups she created, Liberty Central and Liberty Consulting. The amounts were not disclosed; they are not required.

Two justices reported receiving royalties for books they published in recent years. Justice Stephen Breyer traveled the country to promote his new book “Making Our Democracy Work.” He received nearly $60,000 in royalties.

Justice Antonin Scalia took in $38,000 for “Making Your Case,” the book about legal advocacy that he co-wrote with Bryan Garner.

Breyer also reported selling his shares of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., valued at $15,000 to $50,000. The stock sale allowed Breyer to take part in the court’s consideration of Wal-Mart’s effort to end a massive sex discrimination lawsuit. The court is expected to decide that case by the end of June.

How tacky is it for a Supreme Court justice to sign a book deal shortly after taking her post instead of waiting until she retires? Par for the course for a liberal

It seems all these people in Washington do is spend time enrichening themselves and usually at our expense. I wish there was a way we could erase the board and wipe every poltician and politico out of Washington DC. I am ashamed of all of them. If only we could find just ONE honest man or woman to take over. Just ONE honest conservative Patriot who is willing to lead our great nation instead of fattening their off-shore bank accounts. Is there even ONE out there ? Anywhwere ?

I first read the title and got excited, then I put on my glasses and it all collapsed.
I thought it had read ” Justice Sotomayor to Get 1 to 2 Years For Molestation.”

I think the publisher is risking a lot by paying her so much on a book that probably won’t sell enough copies to pay for the printing.
One thing about Puerto Rico is that they are typical Latinos. They don’t speak English unless they have to.

Guess Doubleday had an extry 1.2 mil that they had no idea what to do w/, so some brilliant nerd working there said. “I know, lets give it to leftist Soto to write a book, afterall, she’s a true believer that the Fed Guv. IS supreme and should ride rough-shod over the states”
You can bet your bippy this is Soto’s payoff for future rulings.
It’s quite amazing, many moons ago one Russkie commie remarked the capitalists will sell us the rope w/ which we will hang them.
What held true then, holds true now.. though now it’s not the Russkie commie saying this, it’s ameriKan commies saying this.
The Russkie commies could not destroy US from W/o. But the ameriKan commies will destroy US from W/in
ameriKan commies and pols have worked diligently for many many moons to stack the judiciary w/ like-minded commies. From the SCOTOS down to the lowliest courtrooms.
Now why did I write that, sorry, commies are all like minded.
What marxists cannot get at the ballot box, they obtain through the courts. One can make the case that the SCOTUS judges are as important as the president, or even more so.
Presidents may last 8 yrs. A commie Supreme can lasts mucho mucho decades.
I knew Ol’ Soto would like that mucho mucho thingy.

Kruschev at the UN predicted, “We will bury you”. Later it was predicted that Socialism will take over America without a shot being fired.

Well, with the leftist judiciary taking over and demolishing the Constitution almost on a daily basis, we are seeing these predictions come true.

Sotomayor is just another far left liberal who should move to Cuba or Venezuela. For Knopf Doubleday to pay her is just a waste of money. I wil personally boycott any book published by this left leaning group.

It is just like Glenn Beck said in the last program about the founding fathers.
In those day the people were smart enough to listen th Rev, G whiteman.
But nowadays when peole only talk about what is comming they get booted, because the message is a bit to harsh for their delicate ears.

Actually, that’s NOT capitalism–capitalism is specifically owning capital goods (i.e. stocks of corporations in our society) and extracting wealth from this ownership (capital gains/dividends). That’s very different than publishing a book and being paid for it.

      Right @ back you

Kind of like owning “said” stock in a PUBLISHING company that pays divedends. That pays PROGRESSIVE Supreme court Justices millions of dollars for a Memoir book. To turn a profit to pay off said SHAREHOLDERS and Authors ADVANCES in “Said” Stocks or Cash from Profits made by selling books from BOOKSTORES that sell “Said” stocks to pay “Said” shareholders dividends for buying said stocks. So bookstores can buy MORE books to sell !!! From Non_Capitolistic COMMUNIST authors who will give ALL of their PROFITS back to the peasents !!!
