VEVAY, Ind. (AP) — Kansas City linebacker Mike Vrabel was arrested Monday and charged with theft from a riverboat casino.
The Switzerland County sheriff’s department said Vrabel, 35, was arrested at 5:30 a.m. and released about 5 hours later on $600 cash bond. He was charged with a class D felony.
“It was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and I take full responsibility for the miscommunication,” Vrabel said in a statement issued through his agent. “I feel comfortable that after talking with the appropriate parties, we will resolve this matter.”
The incident happened at the Belterra Casino in Florence, Ind. A call to the security department of the casino was not immediately returned.
Vrabel, a three-time Super Bowl winner with the New England Patriots, is a member of the NFLPA executive committee and one of the plaintiffs in the players’ antitrust lawsuit against the NFL. A hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Minneapolis in federal court in the lawsuit.
Vrabel was traded from the Patriots to the Chiefs before the 2009 season and was a starter on the team last season that won the AFC West title.
“We are aware of the reports regarding Mike Vrabel, but we are not permitted to have contact with Mike at this time,” the Chiefs said in a statement. “We understand that Mike has communicated publicly that the matter is a misunderstanding for which he takes full responsibility. We hope it is resolved for Mike in a positive way.”

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 1:32pmI wanna make a few points that really don’t relate to anything too important. 1. That casino is just down the road, and river, from me. 2. I’m surprised I had to hear this story on The Blaze, but then again I hate local news so… lol 3. I hope the rest of you will join me in applauding both Belterra Casino and the Switzerland County Sheriffs Department forn not giving a flying fig about this yutz‘s ’celebrity status’. A charge was made and they responded to it in the manner they would take with anyone else.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 10:13amSomething regarding 8 bottles of beer is a felony? Are we talking about a drunk who didn’t pay his bar tab, or wouldn’t because he thought he was entitled? A man will lose his Second Amendment rights over 8 bottles of beer?
I despise union thuggery. I also despise jack booted thugs. Seems we have an interaction of both here and they all look like FOOLS.
This is a demonstration of the idiocy of our “news” today. More questions than answers that amount to a character assassination absent facts and full of innuendo.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 7:37amObviously the beer isn’t free at this casino. I‘ve done a ’Glenn Beck’ and did my own research. Here is some additional info:
“Per KMBC, Indiana Gaming Commissioner Director of Enforcement Kenny Rowan said that Vrabel was seen by an enforcement agent taking “bottles of alcohol from a deli” without paying for them. We’re told that the “bottles of alcohol” were eight bottles of beer.
Since video cameras are installed throughout most casinos (insert your own “Vrabel should be used to that since he played for the Patriots” line here), there should be visual evidence of the alleged incident.
And speaking of the Patriots, would it be too cynical to suspect a Colts-Pats rivalry angle to the decision of the enforcement agent to have Vrabel arrested?
Either way, free booze flows like spring water in most casinos, since it serves as the ultimate WD-40 for the hinge of a wallet. We’d therefore be surprised if the owners of the casino decide to pursue the matter. ”

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 6:35amWhat a heart warming story about a man finding his long lost beer, I’m sure once he describes the beer to authorities, a light gold liquid with a foamy head, the authorities will know it was actually his beer and re-unite the two.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 7:20amI know Mike. The only crime here was being traded to the Chiefs. Mike is the most giving, sincere, and honest gentle giant with huge soft spot for children with special needs and life threatening illnesses. He puts more of his money and time back into his community than all the people watching MSNBC, CNN and Ed Shultz in a week. Okay, he still gives more than $27 but the point is Mike has integrity and character and will do the right thing. Be careful attaching social labels
Report Post »because in this case- for all the good Mike has done during college and his pro career- more people should be like Mike. I believe Mike when he say’s it was a misunderstanding, he deserves and has earned the benefit of the doubt.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 12:45pmGuys, c’mon now. Most casinos give their beer away to keep you gambling and most of the ones that don‘t do that don’t make it very clear that you’re on the hook. I almost did the same thing at a St. Louis casino myself but thankfully my buddy knew that you had to pay for them. Don’t be so quick to judge folks. Take the plank out of your own eye before you try to remove the speck from your brothers. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I can go on if you like.
