Katy Perry‘s Christian Mother Shopping Book About Daughter’s Provocative Career ‘Choices’

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, the daughter of two Christian pastors, began her singing career by recording Gospel music and Christian Rock. These days, you know the erstwhile Hudson as Katy Perry, the busty and coquettish sexpot you see below. But her evangelist mother, Mary Perry Hudson, has some stern words for her, and Hudson is shopping them around in a new book.

Hudson “disagrees with a lot of choices [Perry] makes in her career.” Perry, for her part, has achieved stunning fame as a raunchy pop-star singing about “sex on the beach,” getting drunk, and going “all the way tonight.” Her career took off with this single, where she boasts in the chorus, “I kissed a girl and I liked it.”

When “I Kissed a Girl” first came out, Perry’s mother said, “I hate the song. It clearly promotes homosexuality and its message is shameful and disgusting.”

“Katy knows how I feel,” Hudson continued. “We are a very outspoken family and she knows how disappointed her father and I are. I can’t even listen to that song. The first time I heard it I was in total shock. When it comes on the radio I bow my head and pray.”

These days, Hudson plans to write a book about her daughter, and specifically, the impact her daughter’s scintillating fame has had on her hometown Christian ministry. Hudson is shopping the book proposal around to number of agencies.

Katy Perry, who has a Jesus tattoo on her wrist, grew up in a very religious households in Santa Barbara, California. She has described her upbringing as “Jesus Camp.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Perry has said:

Speaking in tongues is as normal to me as ‘Pass the salt’ . . . It’s a secret, direct prayer language to God. My dad speaks in tongues and my mom interprets it . . . I wasn’t ever able to say I was lucky because my mother would rather us say that we were blessed. Deviled eggs were called ‘angeled’ eggs.

A snippet of the book proposal that Hudson is sending around suggests that Hudson‘s book aims to counter this negative image of Perry’s childhood:

Amid a torrent of negative reports from tabloid magazines and entertainment shows, Mary Hudson wants to tell ‘her story’ and dispel a lot of rumors. Katy’s success has impacted her ministry in both negative and positive ways…

She loves her daughter very much and is very proud of her accomplishments, but disagrees with a lot of choices she makes in her career. This memoir is to set the record straight.

Despite what some may think, though, her mother says that the book will not be “a Katy Perry tell-all.”

    I‘m with Katy’s mom. This book could be valuable. I’m sure mom taught Katy a great deal about true christian love – and sharing that love with others, but something got lost in translation and that love got turned to sluttery…

    Good for Mom! there are plenty of parents of famous kids that put their religion and morals aside
    for fame and fortune, Hilton, Lohan, and many more. Pretty darn sad. We all end up old and wrinkled eventually…

    Katy Perry can’t phantom her epicness. Even Laura Prepon has more going for her than Katy. Not sure what people are looking at any more. I’m just not bowled over by Perry….

    Madonna came from the same kind of household. Do you see what happens when you get them all pent up for too long–they go wild when they get in the real world. Give them a balance at childhood, and the shift won’t be so radical in adulthood..just saying! Oh, and in case you think I’m a atheist, I was raised a catholic..so I know what I’m talking about.

    Just because two believing parents have a child that turns out to serve the world and deny Christ, it is not their fault all the time. She is old enough to be accountable and it would have better for her that she had never known the way of the truth and turn from his holy commandments. She will pay a much more huge price for her choices than somebody who have never known the truth. To him that knows to do good and does not do it, shall receive many stripes. To him that does not know to do good and does not know it, shall receive few.
    When she is down in the mire and realizes that satans payments are way too high and require her soul to be lost in an eternity of hell, her parents will be there to pick her up and so will others. I just hope that when she decides to return, that she is real and allows her bad experience to also remove a lot of religeous crap that was instilled in her that discouraged her in the first place.

    She can be identified with the prodigal son of scripture and she will, like the son, return to the family values when she realizes that money and fame can not make her happy. She will need to cling to her family values to feel good about herself and others. If not, she will self destruct like many others in her profession.

      Hmmm. With that logic then then terrorists are just in their acts of terrorism…best rethink that one.
      If God didn’t want men to do evil, to sink into debauchery, and to hate & kill one another, he could have:
      a) given man no free will (personal choice),
      b) wiped him out like He did in the flood but completely (no remnant), or
      c) Declare repentant men righteous by atoning for mankind’s evil deeds through punishing the Just, Holy, and Perfect Man – who is the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s ONLY begotten Son.

God doesn’t support lust which is an excessive sexual appetite without respect and mutual dignity but provides for the natural attraction bestowing pleasure between married men and women who express their love, respect and dignity as a holy and natural human function by which the race continues. It’s called a family, the building block of all societies.

    Most of the time I agree with your statements; on this I must disagree. When a family member makes choices that veer from the family norm, and they agree to disagree respectfully, things can be kept in the family. But Katy decided to “vent” publicly, and if that is affecting the family, or the congregation that she grew up in, I think a restrained statement by her parents is in order. Her mother says it will not be a “tell-all”; so let’s wait and see. Maybe the book can be constructive, and instructive.

    A book like this could be uplifting to a family who has gone through the same thing with their adult children. The fight between what’s right and the culture in which we live is huge. Three cheers for Katy’s mom.

    I would love to see performer’s base their talent on their abilities, not on how naked they can get to try to sell their wares. I yearn for the old days of music when you could actually hear the singer, and not get a headache from the music.
    I don’t listen or watch crap, when a good song or movie comes to town I will probably watch it. But I know that is how they sell themselves to make money.
