Killed 163 Terrorists, 296 Murderers and 206 Arsonists: Teacher Fired Over Violence Themed 3rd Grade Math Problems

WUSA-TV

A charter school teacher in Washington, D.C. was fired Thursday after assigning math problems containing violent and morbid scenarios to third graders.

The unnamed teacher at Trinidad Center City School passed out math problems with questions that included, “bloodthirsty aliens then sucked the blood of 828 teachers and left them for dead” and “2,555 fire ants crawled up my nose and built a nest in my brain. I woke up screaming the next morning.”

Another question asked about a SWAT team member who “killed 163 terrorists, 296 murderers and 206 arsonists. How many criminals did he kill on average each day?”

“I was absolutely distressed,” Dr. Beverley Wheeler, the head of Center City Public Charter Schools, told WUSA-TV.

One question that drew particular concern said: “Tilda Tiger had many hungry children to feed on Thanksgiving Day. She caught 169 Africans, 526 Americans and 196 Indians. She then put the people equally into nine enormous ovens to bake. How many desperate people were in each oven?”

“It doesn’t follow anything we do. We are about character, excellence and service and I found them to be violent and racist,” Wheeler said.

Wheeler said the teacher, instead of using the school’s own math resources, downloaded the questions off the website homeschoolingparadise.com.

Last month, parents in New York were outraged when their 5-year-old daughter brought home a vocabulary assignment that included the words “gun” and “rob.”

Wheeler said the offense was worthy of firing because parents trust the school to give their children appropriate assignments. The teacher, she said, used “incredibly bad judgment.”

Some parents, however, reportedly said the teacher did not want to use the problems but was directed to do so by the school, an allegation Wheeler said was “not true.”

Read more of the word problems assigned below:

  • My 3 friends and I were caught and tied up by 1023 screaming cannibals in a jungle last night. Soon we were feeling terribly itchy because of the mosquitoes. We begged the cannibals to scratch us. 219 cannibals refused because they were busy cutting vegetables. The rest of them, however, surrounded us in equal numbers and began to scratch us with their teeth, just like dogs. It felt good! How many cannibals scratched me?
  • Human terrorists landed on Planet Xintaks and abducted Princess Txsclotyl. The enraged aliens hurled 1420 asteroids at 7 terrorist training camps on Earth. 482 asteroids landed harmlessly in the Pacific Ocean. However, the rest of the asteroids smashed into each camp in equal numbers. How many asteroids smashed into each camp?
  • John’s father gave him 1359 marbles on his birthday. John swallowed 585 marbles and died. 9 of John’s friends came for his funeral the next day. John‘s grieving father gave the remaining marbles to John’s friends in equal numbers. How many marbles did each friend get?
  • My brother and sister kept 263 trolls in a huge cage in our backyard. They went into the jungle yesterday and caught more trolls. When they came back home, they brought back 8 sacks and 7 boxes. There were 8 crying trolls in each sack and 7 shrieking trolls in each box. They threw the trolls into the cage with the other trolls. How many trolls are in the cage now?

Do your job well. Get fired. Why do employers go directly to firing? Was this person not an investment by the district? If admins don’t agree with it ask him to change it, don’t fire him. I applaud him for his creative effort to keep the attention of 8 year olds.

The CDC also loves this stuff. If they didn’t, they would not have released the Zombie warnings last year. I guess that makes the CDC as smart as an 8 year old. Yep, the new CDC, under Obama, is as smart as an 8 year old.

This is really about desensitizing the youth of America. Any 8 year old back in the 60’s would have nightmares over what is considered normal now by 8 year olds. Leave the Children alone you stupid progressive commies! Try coming after an adult. Oh, that’s right, you did and failed. 15 since you took them from yourself medic. You are all overlooking the real point. This is a scam by the same teachers who brainwash children to demonize and blame home schooling with questions they wrote themselves. How many movies, TV shows, and comedy routines showing home schooled children as ignorant fanatics have you seen, and do people look at the stats showing the real truth that home schooled children are far in advance of public schooled children. As much as home schooling is attacked, demonized, and made fun of does anyone really think they would put questions like these up on their site for use with young children? Or would they be more politically sensitive and not do things this ignorant? After all the school was very quick to point out those vile home schoolers came up with the questions. The entire incident stinks of setup by the left.

I will say this though, they will have to physically fight me to force my children to back to brick and mortar school. It would have to be literally over my dead body.

P.S.- My husband looked up the website the article gave above. We are both quite sure that it is a tool to undermine homeschooling and homeschoolers. No one in their right (pun intended) mind would use that site. Period.

The conspiracy theorist in me sees this as a blatant attempt to smear homeschooling. Supposedly the questions were downloaded from a homeschooling resource website? The teacher’s defense is that the school made them use the questions. So the school makes the teacher use the questions to attack homeschooling as racist neatly fitting into the “kids that are homeschooled are being taught questionable stuff” mantra? Fits too neatly.

okay so, i read most of these comments, and realised that after about 25% of them, they started to get off topic. the problem here is that a teacher is being punished for something, that, in all honesty is nothing more that harmless and childish. certainly, if these words were harmful for the students present, then they sould be removed, however, as a 16 year old australian student studying advanced and extention mathamatics, i can tell you that most of the work is preatty dry. i am often found wasting time as i have become insanely bored, however, after looking up the actual work sheet, i not only read these questions, i worked them all out, laughing the whole way. these questions are nothing more than harmless fun, and i have seen worse on the news about wars, terrorist attacks and the much more frequent, falling funiture. this entire issue has been blown out of preportion, and anyone who activly belives that a child will be affected by these questions, is quite mistaken. the real problem here is that a usefull site for education and learning is being attacked, as well as other people who do not deserve it. obama has been a preatty good leader, and as far as we can tell, no one thinks he baked this **** pie, they just don’t like the way hes serving it out. and socalism is not a bad thing. australia is a mainly socalist society and things work preatty well here. there are several problems that must be adressed and fixed, but overall it is a preatty good system

Or perhaps the teacher is trying to get the children to think about the reality of the world, and that the world is a very very dangerous place. The truth of the matter is that Americans push their children into a false sense of security while hiding the children from the very real threats in the world which make them more inclined to deny threats as adults. But hey then the children may not grow up into artificially secured slaves to keep the money pouring in while the people in “The know” adjust their own lives. What evil people! Especially since there is still many cannibalistic societies around the globe even.

It is no wonder “no child left behind” is offensive to these teachers! Every year my local newspaper publishes the scores of the different grade levels with the average scores—-they are and have been terrible since Pres. Bush established the “no child left behind” law! Each year the scores have gone lower and now Obama the robot wants “no child left behind” to end! Gee I wonder why as parents see their children become uneducated not because of no child left behind, but because the unions have left all children in our schools behind and uneducated—-thanks to the unionization! Follow through on some of the links and we find out the educational lessons are the same type used by:

Who is teaching the teachers these days?? Who is hiring the teachers these days?? Who is supervising the teachers these days?? I know homeschooling seems to be the answer, but honestly, not everyone can or should. I keep thinking about the small schools before “consolidation,” where the parents were in charge. A solution between keeping our kids at home and throwing them to the wolves. There has to be a way…

Teaching your children at home is an experience no parent should miss. You can teach them for one hour a day and keep them no less than a year or two ahead of most government schools. In fact they will most likely know things that they will never learn in a government school. Things like the good our country does around the world. They will know that most Americans are good and give charity to help others. They will learn of the things that Americans have brought into the world by way of capitalism.
These are things they will never learn in a government indoctrination center.

If the teacher just didn’t want to work there any longer just quit, but since he/she was fired there is a possibility he/she might be able to claim unemployment now and stay home? Was this an evil plot? Hopefully, it will backfire and he/she won’t be able to collect, but for some reason I don’t think that is going to happen.

If this is not the case, then this teacher needs a psych evaluation pronto.

Anyone who might think this is actually something *good* and would help “teach math. . .”??? The thing is, it teaches more than math! Is THAT the real goal? C’mon, people–REALLY?!?

There really ARE such things as values, principles, GOOD TASTE, and COMMON SENSE! These are not just figments of people’s imaginations, they really DO and CAN exist–even in a nutty world such as ours! I KNOW some of our kids (and apparently some who post here–maybe one and the same) have been desensitized to tasteless, classless stuff due to some TV programming, music, videos, movies, internet junk, etc. But it still doesn’t make it tasteless and classless–it just means some have become immune to it–eyes glazed over–“Whatever” becomes their only word.

Some of us are still awake, right? Some of us are yet sane, thinking people–right? lol

The more I read, the more I am convinced that either good, private schools and/or home schooling are our only answers to this insanity.

In January 1013 the newly elected Republican President compelled all the Democrats in office to read the US Constitution and write a 5000 word essay in their thoughts afterwards. How many Democrats changed political party to Republican, how many fled the United States, and how many committed suicide on a Washington DC park bench….with no weapon near by?

OK, I just regressed in my mind to being 9 years old and sitting in my class and driven nearly to death (or at least to a latent sleep mode) by boredom, while listening to teacher, reciting the absolutely meaningless math problem, something about people getting on and off the bus. My mind drifts to a world of pirates, with sharp swords and knives behind their belts, hiking on another ship, all that din and ruckus and suddenly, I am pulled back from that world. Teach says something about cannibals and scratching mosquito bites with teeth. My attention is now focused, and my latent math abilities plug in trying to solve the puzzle, because the emotional charge of the puzzle does not lend to leaving it unsolved. I arrive towards the result sooner that the girl behind me, named Dana, with extremely cute pigtails and numerous freckles, and grab her hand and slightly scrape it with my teeth. She squeals, and it is hard to decide whether with horror or pleasure. The teach reprimands me for disturbing others and gives me another puzzle in a similar mold because I was already done, while others seem to be still counting.Yes, I solved the other puzzle too.

Dana fell in love with me (for real, did something similar in another context). One day we were so engrossed in kissing before school day started that we came late by 30 minutes. Of course, my peers revealed before we barged in that we must be kissy-kissy. Ah, what a mess. Parents called… That was a less pleasant afterword.

That is absolutely the worse teacher and glad she was fired. I am beginning to think that there should be one different parent each day in the school room to watch over teachers. Seems like more and more schools are teaching the wrong history and the wrong way of projecting. Our kids need the best and they are not getting it in all schools. Truth not lies, good not evil should be in the classrooms. God please watch over our schools

LOL! Most of the questions were extreme, but some would make boys wake up for school early and have them doing extra credit.

If they could make it less extreme, it would be better than Suzie has three flowers. Billy Bob has 2…..zzzzzzz
