Kirk Cameron Defends Comments on Gays & Calls Piers Morgan‘s Actions ’Disingenuous’

Actor Kirk Cameron has already issued a statement in response to his controversial Piers Morgan interview. While attacks from fellow entertainers and advocacy groups have continued, Cameron has maintained his stance on homosexuality and has reiterated his love for his fellow man. As he makes media rounds to promote his new documentary, “Monumental,” the actor is still fielding questions about the controversy.

This morning, on FOX News’ “FOX & Friends,” Cameron was open and honest about the drama that developed following CNN appearance. During a dialogue with the show’s hosts, he discussed his feelings about Piers Morgan’s questioning (it was an interview on “Piers Morgan Tonight” that originally spawned the controversy) and he defended his comments. Here’s what Cameron had to say:
“What disheartens me…is that when you’re sitting across the table from someone who knows what your perspective is on issues — and I’ve been very consistent, I don’t think anything I said surprised anybody as a Bible-believing Chrisitan — but to then take some answers, reduce an important and personal and sensitive issue to a 4-second soundbite and toss it into a community to start a political firestorm and really upset people that you‘re saying you’re looking to protect, I think it’s disingenuous.”
Watch the entire interview, below, to see the rest of Cameron’s comments on the matter:

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 7:36pmI stand by my brother in Christ, Kirk Cameron. Again, the media takes this to new levels of screwy. Christians DO NOT HATE GAY PEOPLE – they hate the lifestyle since it is not from God!!! EVERYONE has fallen short and NO ONE can be saved on their own merits. ONLY through Jesus the son of God can we be saved. Once you have surrendered to Christ and asked Him to live in your heart you start a relationship with him – not a religion. Our Lord loves everyone and does not want anyone to be lost. Gay and lesbian lifestyles are sin just like other sins. Jesus is ready to forgive you, save you, and love you but He will not comprimise on his Word. There is NO OTHER WAY to God except through Jesus Christ His Son!! That is truth and if you choose to deny that it is your choice. I pray that God will open the eyes of your heart to see the truth and not be lost. God bless.

Thanks for the measured response – I got a bit overboard with that one – sorry. Been a long day, feeling a bit short tempered.
But blind obedience to rules is just as detrimental as hate. Remember those school girls in Saudi Arabia who burned to death in their school because the Religious Police trapped them inside… because they were still in their nightclothes? That is a murder, not influenced by hate, but by blind obedience to religious dogma.
And how do we define hate? Many believers seem to think that homosexuals are subhuman, or there is something “wrong” with them. That too is dogma – generally based on ignorance by people who have never met a gay person. Now granted, I had very little contact with gay people until I started attending college… but even back then I had the imagination to realize that gays are probably just normal people like me. Then obviously once I met real gays in real life, that confirmed my earlier conjectures.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 8:17pm@Jon Bonham “Many believers seem to think that homosexuals are subhuman, or there is something “wrong” with them.” That is a flat out lie! No true Christian views another human being that way. The Westboro Baptist church is the only congregation that makes idiotic comments and they in no way represent “many believers”. Your obvious hatred of all religion is based upon a total misrepresentation of church doctrine, in particular the Judeo/Christian ethic that you call dogma and “blind obedience to rules”.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 9:04pmI also stand by Kirk and his right to say what he believes. While I don’t agree with him, it is plain he has no malice for gays, he is just espousing his beliefs. To all the gay activists (who make GAY! an identity, rather than who they go home to at night), why do you demand tolerance of your position, yet refuse to tolerate others who disagree? I’m gay, and I don’t expect all people to condone my life, just as I don’t condone what many, many others do with their lives, but I do expect tolerance. Kirk is not being intolerant, quite the opposite. He is merely expressing his views about the lifestyle, in much the same way I express my deeply held views that people who shack up and/or create children out of wedlock are wrong.
I’m not a moderate in most things, but I will say the extremes on both sides of this issue are equally wrong. Between those who expect everyone to rejoice in their gayness and wish to shove it in everyone’s face, and those who want to relegate gays to the shadow so they are never seen or heard, there is a happy middle where everyone just leaves others to themselves and lives their own lives without fear of interference or harm coming from the other. Anyone who wishes can tell me how I live is wrong, and I’ll gladly engage in conversation about it, but NO ONE gets to force me into their way of thinking, any more than I get to force them.

God does love us all, the only way to God is through his son Jesus Christ. Most Christians don’t hate homosexuals because of their lifestyle, they hate the lifestyle. The only way to make it to God’s kingdom is to change your lifestyle, accept Jesus and ask for forgiveness. I work on it everyday!

Posted on March 21, 2012 at 11:42pmShimauma, I appreciate your thoughts and intentions. Believe me when I tell you I have done much soul searching on the matter and did not arrive at my choices frivolously. From adolescence when it was clear what I was attracted to, to my mid-thirties, I fought my feelings and tried to be straight. I wanted nothing more than to have a normal life with a wife and children to care for and to grow old and watch my grandchildren play in the yard. That was my dream from the time I was a little kid. I just never progressed very far in any relationship. At some point I had to face why. It was when I realized I could not deceive a woman into marriage, could not deprive her of a man who truly desired her, that I finally admitted to myself that I would never have that dream. As I see it, I had 3 choices; I could commit fraud upon a woman or even find a woman who could accept that I would never desire her, I could remain celibate with no one to care for, or I could try to make as normal a life as possible with the cards I was dealt. I concluded I could not be selfish enough to harm another, but was too selfish to live alone for life. I’m not currently in a relationship, but I hope to one day find someone who shares my values to live my life with. I understand God’s stance on the issue and will one day answer to Him, but I have to believe He will forgive my not being strong enough to choose option number 2. Thank you for the blessings, they are returned in kind.

Joseph Smith perverted the Gospel and any follower of him has a perverted view of Christ. The Book of Mormon contradicts so much of what Jesus said that you get a sense there is a different Jesus for Mormons. I don’t know if that is your web site, but I am having trouble following your rationale, and wonder if you might consider stepping back and asking are you building up, or tearing down fellow believers? I used to also believe that the King James Bible was the best, till I learned that virtually all of the OT scriptures quoted in the NT were directly from the Greek Septuagint, rather than the Hebrew MT. Lucky for us, God uses many examples, many illustrations (most of which with words, as He also speaks to our heart concerning truth), so that we understand Him. And He didn’t speak with “Thee’s“ and ”Thou’s”.
I am not trying to put down King James, I still like that version, though I somewhat prefer NASB, but often compare the two, and better yet, search Greek and Hebrew meanings (as I find all translations somewhat lacking). To be honest, I find all churches somewhat lacking if I expect them to perfectly mirror my own beliefs. But good for me as well as them that we are all different, and loved with our own individuality. (I find myself somewhat lacking also.) I know enough to know that many people with whom I may disagree with on minor issues have precious hearts which are in fellowship with Christ. I know that when I didn’t understand anything about Christ, He loved me and taught me through a variety of means. Should we insult those with whom the Lord is well pleased? Or those that He is leading? Or those that will lead many others to Him

When arguing about matters of abortion and homosexuality with an interviewer clearly hostile to what the fundamentals of the Christian faith profess, do not present your position as though it is merely your “opinion”, rather defer to your position as what God’s word in the Bible clearly SAYS. If this twit Morgan wishes to then argue about what the Bible says, all Cameron need then do is state Morgan’s issue is with GOD and not him. If Mr. Morgan wants to marginalize Cameron’s faith by questioning why some other rather “liberal” sects of Christianity seem to think abortion or homosexuality present no moral problem, all Cameron then need do is turn the question back to Morgan and ask if it is more important what God SAYS His will is, or what some errant people wish to think it is. Game, set, & match….

If people cannot believe that the Bible is God’s word, then there is really no point for them being Christian at all, because they then become the arbiter of the very thing Pontius Pilate asked of Jesus…”What is TRUTH?” Well…God says what TRUTH is in the Bible for all those with ears to hear. To claim TRUTH is something else is to either claim to be God yourself, or at least that nothing Godly exists beyond what YOU define Godly truth to be. You can either believe Jesus is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE, that the Bible is indeed God’s revealed will for our world, and His holy and inerrant and inspired word, our you can just be a follower of your own brand of relativism and pick and choose what you wish to believe or not (essentially be a god in and of yourself). Do you also think we judge ourselves after we die with what we have done right or wrong in this life? How do you think God reveals to mankind what His will is, if not by the Bible?
Yes…the Bible was written by men, but what these men wrote was inspired by God (literally “God-breathed”). This was not simply creative human inspiration. In fact, it was not longer them writing at all, rather the Holy Spirit writing through them.

“If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid.” (John 5:31)

And Jesus said, “For judgement I am come into this world.” (John 9:39)
“I came not to judge the world” (John 12:47)
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
“Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:1)

Posted on March 21, 2012 at 7:31amJEANR…wow, it seems you FEEL the Bible contradicts itself. Wow…where to begin. You might not understand the God face to face explanation, but I will try a small attempt. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God” Jesus is the Word and did not come into existance when born of Mary. He has always existed. Seeing God face to face was seeing Jesus. Something easier to understand, good works and alms are 2 different things. The Pharisees would sound a trumpet before giving money because they wanted the people to take note that they were giving the money and they wanted the praise of man. That is why Jesus said they have their reward. Their reward was man praising them, but God was not. Good works are to be done, not for man to praise man, but for man to see Christ in us.

Interesting, I supposed you think Tea partiers are racist? I suppose you bash all Christians to no end? I suppose you hate Bush but love Obama even though they support the SAME exact policies? Please explain… I’d love to hear you hypocritical answers.

What has Al Sharpton done for the gays? Has he fed them like Christians do? Has he given them shelter like Christians do? Has counseled them like Christians do? Has he spent time talking to them like Christians do? Nope…he bashes them then says a few nice lies to appease them. Do YOU have links showing all he has done for gays? Thought not…

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 4:26pmKirk is RIGHT ON. Followers of Christ will be persecuted until Jesus comes.
Radical Islam IS EVIL. Those who side with evil will be destroyed by God when Jesus comes again – AND, HE WILL COME AGAIN.
Kirk is a voice in the wilderness and I will back him whole-heartedly in prayer and financially. If you are a follower of Christ and you do not stand for righteousness, THEN YOU ARE AN ENEMY OF GOD.
Now, that may sound horrid to you, but the Bible clearly says this is true.
I SUPPORT YOU KIRK. I FOLLOW CHRIST JESUS. I SUPPORT ISRAEL.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 4:24pmThe problem is that sexual deviants, ie homosexuals, pedophiles, necrophliacs and the like, they don’t see Mr. Cameron’s statement as the loving warning he meant it to be, they see it as judgemental and they are angry at being made to feel guilty for their perversion.
I pray Mr. Cameron continues to speak the truth, maybe he will lead some of them back to righteousness.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 4:31pmThe word JUDGMENTAL (JUDGING) comes from the Bible – the Old Testament and the New Testament. Maybe they need to look it up. GOD WILL JUDGE THOSE WHO PRACTICE UNRIGHTEOUSNESS IN ANY FORM and a practicing homosexual is UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.
The word RIGHTEOUS means IN RIGHT-STANDING WITH GOD. So then, if they are unrighteous, then they must be AGAINST GOD. The devil will send these people a DELUSION to keep them where they are. It is part of Satan’s plan to ENSLAVE PEOPLE TO UNRIGHTEOUS ACTIVITIES.
But, WE, AS FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST, should be praying for them: HATE THE SIN, LOVE THE SINNER. All this should be practiced just as Kirk is doing – - LOVINGLY, BUT TRUTHFULLY. If they will not listen, ask to pray for them and then MOVE ON. The Holy Spirit will handle the rest.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 4:33pmIt’s amazing how offended some people can get when you point out the truth about their unhealthy choices. Alcoholics tend to stay in denial just the same as homosexuals do.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 4:35pmBeing convicted of wrong doing is never pleasant. It is the ONLY way back to freedom though. Only when sin is acknowledged can the sinner appeal to the Lord for forgiveness.

you are correct in your analysis.
the Ten Commandments are our freedom. they are two-fold. they are penal and they are the taskmaster, to show us the righteousness of God. if we have self control and inner restraint then we will not need external restraint. Yahweh is the author of freedom and liberty!
keep up the good work Kirk, can’t wait to see Monumental.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 5:38pmThe phrase “homosexuals, pedophiles, necrophliacs and the like” implies that homosexuals are somehow “like” pedophiles and necrophliacs. I think even Mr. Cameron would agree that with defenders like you, who needs attackers.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 6:42pm@ Chet….they are the same. They are all sinful and in direct disobedience to God. You don’t have kinda, almost sins and little sins and not so bad sins, there is sin. It is all wrong.
The problem people have with that concept is that it causes examination of oneself in light of the standard of sinlessness which is God. Which then causes us to realize how severly we miss the mark of that standard (sin actually means missing the mark by the way).
People, rather than admitting that and accepting the saving grace of the Father, thru Jesus, would rather delude themselves into thinking they are ok cause they aren’t as bad as “X”. Well “x” isn’t the standard God is. Measured against God’s standard we are all hopelessly lost and separated from God – Who cannot and will not abide with sin.
So because God loves his creation, in His great justice and mercy, sent someone to take the punishment we sinners deserve (death and hell) – Jesus.
Such a simple plan

So sin is sin, really? Gluttony is a sin, so eating a half-gallon tub of ice cream in one sitting is the same as raping and murdering a child. Pride is a sin, so boring your neighbors with stories of how smart and talented your kids are is like burning down a hospital. Do tell us, Reverend Doctor Kaydeebeau, in what seminary were you instructed in this brilliant theological theory?

Report Post »CHET…you do not have understanding. Sin is Sin. What is the end result of sin? It separates us from God. Sin is Sin in that all sin separates us from God and hurts are relationship we have with God. God doesn’t want us to sin, period! From the human perspective, of course there are different degrees of sin. Some sin only effects us and God. Other sins effect us, others and God. When are sins effect others in a harmful way, it is called evil. Me eating too much ice cream would effect me. Me burning down a hospital effects others and would be quite EVIL. Not all sin is evil, but all sins effect the relationship of God and man.

Posted on March 21, 2012 at 6:07pmagain @ Chet (& Thanks Rob). God makes no distinction only humans do. That is why Jesus explained that having lustful thoughts was the same as adultery or hate in your haeart was the same a murder – to illustrate the degrees humans try to put on sin.
Reading and studying the Bible is all that is needed, the Word of God is simple and profound and doesn’t require a seminary degree to comprhend the timeless Truths in it

Posted on March 22, 2012 at 3:57amI guess that I just think that all of that anti-gay nonsense in the Bible is just some crap that somebody made up and not really the word of God. And if I’m wrong, it doesn’t matter, because if I’m wrong then that would make God just a stupid bully and I would have no desire to spend all of eternity in His odious presence.
