Kirsten Powers Tells Megyn Kelly ‘Liberal Men Are Allowed to Be Misogynist, Apparently’

Kristen Powers Tells Megyn Kelly That There Is a Double Standard Between Liberals and Conservatives When it Comes to SexismOn Monday’s America Live with Megyn Kelly, Fox contributor and Daily Beast columnist Kirsten Powers weighed in on what she considers the double standard leveled against conservatives when “misogynistic” statements are made by media pundits. In her latest column ”Rush Limbaugh Isn’t the Only Media Misogynist,” Powers asks if all liberal media personalities are held to the same standard as their conservative counterparts. For the Democratic strategist, the answer is a resounding “no.”

Powers honed in on acerbic left-wing media personality Bill Maher, who has never shied away from sexist, disparaging comments about Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann. Powers remarked:

You have all these liberals coming out and now saying Rush Limbaugh needs to be taken off the air for saying stuff like this. Then it doesn’t make sense that somebody like Bill Maher is able to not only stay on, but have all these top Democrats and top liberals come on like it’s no problem. [...]

What’s been particularly upsetting to me, Megyn, is the response that I’ve gotten to this article, which is, “Oh, it’s so different! It’s ok to call Sarah Palin all those words because she’s a public person, but this other woman who was in front of the, you know, hearing on the contraception, well, she’s a private person.” It’s, like, oh I’m sorry, it’s ok to call someone the c-word if they’re a public person? When did that happen? If people start calling Nancy Pelosi that, everyone would just go, “Oh, well, she’s a public person. Oh well”? You know, it’s not ok.

Powers’ major issue is that these “gender-specific,” “particularly nasty” attacks on women by men in the media are seen as permissible. Because ultimately, she says, “this isn’t really about misogyny, it’s about the Democratic party,” and specifically “a proxy war for the Democratic party.” The backlash against Rush Limbaugh, then, is less about real ire for his misogynistic comments and more about the fact that he’s a conservative media personality.

I have a different perspective on this. To call a woman a name based on her political beliefs disagree from yours, is inapropriate. However, in this case the woman was testifying about her sexual exploits. She was testifying in public that she is a slut. I realize Rush apologized and I realize why, but he did not call her a slut because she disagreed with his politics. I was horrified that this woman would testify before congress and brag about how much sex she was having. Our society has no sence of shame.

When I was growing up, Ms Flkuke would not have been permitted in our house. And I feel the smae way today about my own house. She said in a very public forum that she was having so much sex that she couldn’t afford birth control. In my day, that was admission of being a slut or even worse.

I always thought that law school at Georgetown was difficult, requiring a great deal of study and research. I had no idea that any consciencious law student there would have a great deal of time for recreational activities, especially intercourse so many times that condoms became a major expense. If Ms Fluke plans to be a good attorney, she might consider spending more time studying instead of “recreating.” And think of the money she would save!!!!

“Where does she say anything about her sex life?”

If you’re spending $1,000 a year on birth control, you either have found some especially expensive pills, or you are using 3 condoms every day.

Rush’s point was that the more sex she has, the more money she wants the taxpayers to give her for it. Hence, one could deduce that she is a prostitute of sorts. He was clearly being absurd to make a point, not actively trying to denigrate her. This is what makes the hypocrisy of the left so obvious. Bill Maher isn’t making a point when he calls conservative women names; he is just being downright hateful, and it is considered acceptable.

This is a difference between a college student testifying before congress regarding the health reasons for contraception & being blasted the way Rush did. He says he‘s a journalist but didn’t even have the facts right. I am neither a democrat or republican, I’m an independent. I try to look at all sides of an issue & I have a 31 year old daughter. For the rest of that girls life when ever she is googled…“ slut”… and a lot of other things that are now showing up on the internet is going to come up for the rest of her life. Do we want to silence our young people by degrading them they way Rush did? Talking about watch videos of her having sex? The thing is she never said she wanted him or anyone else to pay for her contraception. This hits home with a lot of people because 40% of women are on contraception for health reasons and we may not all have daughters but we do all have mothers.

I think it’s only fair to Ms. Fluke that in the staged Democrat Pelosi’s press conference that masqueraded as a Congressional Hearing, she made it clear that she wasn’t speaking for herself, but on behalf of women that that apparently she hears from every day, and on behalf of 40% of her classmates.

Most would surely think that if you could afford an annual cost of $45K+ to attend this University, and especially if you’re receiving taxpayer subsidized loans or grants, you have a responsibility to yourself and/or to those paying your bills, to delay your promiscuity until you are prepared to pay for the consequences on your own.

You could buy a hellova vibrator for less than $100 that would last throughout your College life, and save you $2,900.00 over three years, according to Fluke’s prepared statement.
(Spare me the references to anecdotal examples that represent a minute fraction of these women who have a legitimate medical reason for needing to use contraceptive drugs)

…So, perhaps Rush should have used the unfortunate label to refer to 40% of Flukes classmates that are spending $1,000/year for contraception?

@SFRICH I believe a lot of the confusion comes from the following statement made by Ms. Fluke:

Without insurance coverage, contraception, as you know, can cost a woman over $3,000 during law school. For a lot of students who, like me, are on public interest scholarships, that’s practically an entire summer’s salary. 40% of the female students at Georgetown Law reported to us that they struggle financially as a result of this policy

She included herself in the discussion. Though it appears she was only using her personal reference in regards to her scholarship statis, yet the way it is worded can be misconstrued.

What I find more intersting about her statement is the facts, or lack there of, thrown out as “red meat” for the media. One point of interest is where she acknowledges Georgetown’s insurance covers birth control pills for medically prescribed, yet a few minutes later states that their insurance does not cover it. What she fails to explain (intentionally or not???) is that Georgetown’s Insurance is for employees, not students. Per Obama care, the students should have their own coverage through their parents, or government assistance. The University provided clinic is subject to the institutions guidelines and not personal preferences.

Maybe it’s a bit on the childish side to call people names for what they believe or what they say either in private conversations or on public talk radio programs. Rush Limbaugh, while being bold in his ability to get to the core of most any present day political matter that’s floating on the airwaves in an attempt to get the attention of his listeners, is not and has never been a shock jock. He presents the news and he comments on it. It’s that simple. This young lady represents a part of the Democratic Party’s attack brigades. Her job is to light fires so that other members of the Party can throw gasoline on it. Rush commented on what she said. That and nothing more. He never called her any names. I’m paraphrasing: He said, “In my days as a high school student, if a girl was as active sexually as Ms. Fluke suggested she was, they were called sluts or even prostitues.” If you can find in his statement that Rush called Ms. Fluke either of these names, then you’ve got the insightful ability to read into words that are spoken by a speaker and determining what that speaker really meant to say. Kerstin Powers is very good at making big mountains out of little molehills. She is well paid for being one of the whining female Fox News contributors who represent the poor liberal progressives who are treated badly by big bad conservative wolves who howl and bark at the liberal world on conservative talk radio. I want to thank Ms. Powers for standing for the truth. I get awfully tired of consistently hearing the left support the Democratic party, even when the Democratic party is wrong.

The Democratic party shoved ObamaCare down the throats of all Americans, then admitted openly that they never read it. There were only two Democrats who actually said that was wrong – Pat Gaddel and Doug Schoen. That was when the American people realized that they could never depend on the Democratic party for the truth or for common sense. The same occurred with Rev. Wright, self admitted White House Green Czar Van Jones, the lack of prosecution of the new black panthers for voter fraud, the beating up of a Tea Party person, etc. Few Democrats could admit that there was something wrong…perhaps they are fearful of the capabilities of their own party.

That is why Ms. Powers words were so appreciated, albeit unexpected. Thank you, Ms. Powers! It is the fairness that you exibited today that will begin the long road of mistrust from Independentslike myself, that no longer trust or feel represented in Washington.

Fluke is not a private person anymore. Once she stepped out in front of a Congressional committee she made herself a public person. And this talk about suing Limbaugh for calling her names, well, I don’t see how she has a case. She talks about how expensive it is for her to have sex with men she doesn’t want to have babies with, then she gets upset when she’s called a slut and prostitute? If you’re not a slut, then stop going public telling us how expensive it is to not get pregnant. The truth is pretty offensive, isn’t it?

I’m sorry but I do not want my daughters to become Reproductive Right Activists and speak so immodestly and unsacredly about their sex lives. It is a degrading example of what it means to be an honorable woman and Rush‘s comment may have been more of a ’slip of the tongue’ in trying to express the indignity to women that this woman has shown at Georgetown. Now – look at the show to be aired on ABC called GCB (Good Christian B******s) that classifies and targets a whole set of women and not just one individual. Many Christians don’t even draw the wrong kind of attention to themselves like this Georgetown student did. They don’t ask others to support their personal desires, especially when others think it may be immoral. Talk about obnoxious and selfish – who are the one’s being unjustly targeted? I am totally embarrassed for this woman. She is the opposite of how I want my daughters to grow up.

What?? DEMOCRATS help the military? Is that by cutting numbers and giving miniscule pay increases to (not) match their ridiculous inflation rates? Or by cutting our (families included) health care while taking better care of unions, whining college kids/unemployed bums/illegal aliens and private contributors/lobbyists? Or by cutting needed Research and Development for weapons and armor? Or by making the US appear weaker to our enemies so they become bolder? I‘m gonna go ahead and answer ’no’ for all the above.

You’re a fool if you think patriots become disenfranchised simply by serving their country. If more people had the intestinal fortitude to serve, you wouldn’t have the throngs of whiners known as Occupiers crying about the unfairness of our economy. Every one of them started off with more opportunity than the vast majority of the world. It is no one’s fault but their own that they did nothing with it but sit and wait for people to give them what they were unwilling to work for.

I almost never agree with Kirsten Powers but I must give her credit for speaking the truth, which is not something the left tolerates well. Facts can be a troublesome thing to them. Way to go Kirsten! Never thought I’d write or say those words. And as for Rush, he only spoke the truth, although I would have used different wordling, he didn‘t say anything that wasn’t true. Again, the truth is not something the left can deal with!

She called it out that its all about the Democrats and using this is an election year ploy (they get to use the Republicans dont care about womens issues) rather than its just a double standard when Liberal idols such as the Pig Maher say what they say. I give her the kudos for the guts to come out and say whats really the issue. Democrat Talking points. The difference between Maher and Limbaugh, Limbaugh broadcasts on public airwaves and Maher‘s show is on subscription cable TV and isn’t subsidized by advertising dollars. You‘re just as free to boycott HBO as you are to boycott all the advertisers that pulled their products from Limbaugh’s show. Free association would dictate that all of those companies that did pull advertising have that legitimate right.

I figured that would get a response. Another subtle difference lost on conservatives is Maher claims to be a comedian and Limbaugh claims to represent conservative ideals. That isn’t some abstract extrapolation, comedians, on cable television make F’d up crude remarks and some people find them humorous, that is their expressed intent and infortainers broadcasting on public airwaves are and should be held to a different standard, Limbaugh isn’t allowed to go as far as Maher specifically, in his capacity as a voice of the conservative right. For Christ‘s sake it isn’t even a subtle difference it’s clearly obvious.

That’s one difference. Another difference is that Maher is a comedian but Limbaugh is a news commentator. A comedian can comment on the news, and a news commentator can be funny, but a news commentator shouldn’t be vulgar and offensive while a comedian has no such obligation.

Serious? That excuse is so asinine!! Seriously, is that the best you came come-up with? He’s only a “comedian” when it gets him out of trouble. Maher is very much a vocal, liberal activist. He has had numerous political figures on his show of both democrats and republicans, and has held serious, educated debates with them. Maher is a pundit who also has a sense of humor. He’s a political activist who realized that comedy can be used as a tool for his agenda. In fact, these days Maher is known more for his activism than his show. There are probably more people who read the articles about him on the Blaze than actually watch his show.
