Kirstie Alley Takes a Tumble on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kirstie Alley and “Dancing with the Stars” partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy (MAKS’-ihm shmehr-KAWF’-skee) have taken a tumble in the ballroom during the live performance show.

Just seconds into their rumba routine to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on Monday, Chmerkovskiy fell to the floor, taking the 60-year-old actress down with him.

A limping, apologetic Chmerkovskiy later told the judges that his thigh “just gave out.”

After a few moments the pair recovered and went on to earn the praise of the judges and a score of 21 – one point higher than their score for last week’s quickstep.

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba says, “Sometimes tragedy leads to amazingly beautiful moments.”

no one has mentioned how the lead to this story started! It led me to believe that Christie was the
one at fault for falling. It was the guy’s fault? reporting like this is usually observed on PMSNBC.
The fat comments are also undeserved. This just makes me think more and more that common sense
in this nation has gone and will never return.

Have any of you been listening to Glenn at all this last few weeks? How about “being who you should be everyday” or acting the same as you would on sunday, all the rest of the days of the week.. Really some of the things you supposedly god fearing people are saying is not what I expect to hear from people who follow Glenn…

She may not be what you appreciate as the perfect woman, who says your idea of a woman is perfect? That is the exact kind of garbage that is taught to your children and gives them a superiorority complex big enough to become the bullies of tomorrow.

The way people here were talking, I thought she was going to be her peak weight before I watched the video. What can she possibly weigh there? 170? 180? She’s gorgeous, and she looks just a little heavier than normal, to me. She’s maybe thirty or so pounds overweight? If she’s 60 years-old, she looks freaking fantastic.

Anyway, she’s not 300 pounds or anything, people. She looks as good as the bony, miserable-looking fashion models some of you apparently worship.

I remember seeing Kirstie on Star Trek when she was very young. She was stunningly beautiful then. Yeah, the poor guy didn’t have the muscle to hold her fat a$$ up. But, that is OK. At least they didn’t give up like a couple of punks.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a story posted on here about a boy who got tired of being bullied and finally fought back. Everyone cheered him, including myself. Now, I come on here and see some of the disgusting and disrespectful things people write about someone who had the courage to go out and dance in front of millions of viewers. Do you think she doesn’t realize she has a weight issue…I’m pretty sure she does. I don’t know what any of you look like or how much you weigh, and I don’t really care to know. What I do know, is that if this were your child, your sibling, your spouse and this happend in a competition, I doubt you would be saying these disrespectful things. You’d most likely be giving encouragement and defending them against anyone who dared say something so hurtful. Grow up people.

“What I do know, is that if this were your child, your sibling, your spouse and this happend in a competition, I doubt you would be saying these disrespectful things.” Your RIGHT I wouldn’t be saying those things. I wouldn’t have let (AND DON”T LET) my children get to that conditoin. They take care of themselves in and out of school. they take Karate and are into athletics, The girls and boys both. I’ve been married twice and my grown children are no exception (okay okay my son put on weight after he broke his back teaching martial arts part time to police in Dallas). But I’m just saying that if my son or daughter had a “weighty problem” I think they would be a little more thoughfull about where they thought they could displace a trophy with gravity. I don’t watch this type of drivel on TV but I imagine many that do expect to see the falls and dumps and mistakes that occur. I heard about folks who LAMO’d about those loosers who auditioned for that singing show with what;s his name and the drunk woman. ya’ll look for failures. it’s the selective thinning of the herd. It’s the natural way of life. Eat or be eaten. If you eat garklic they’ll leave you alone.

Hey I love Kirstie Alley – I think she is an amazing dancer! Not all of us chicks are a size 2. I admire her for just getting up and continuing with the routine and not give her partner the evil eye. For that she gets my vote. Also, Max should not have even mentioned her at the end -when he was asked what happened and he said “it was not her fault” – of course that leaves it wide open for “weight jokes”. Max is a “pinhead”…

It’s newsworthy if you take note of the “Entertainment,” subset. If you don’t find entertainement news as news, then simply don’t click. In general ‘entertainment’ stories that are not fluff pieces, and I for one enjoy the occasional break from the (WHY SO SERIOUS?) world we live in. As a rule, I don‘t watch any ’reality‘ or ’contest’ type shows, so this is news for me. When all the ‘pop-culture’ folks start talking about this, I at least will have a point of reference.

She has been fighting a weight problem for years and she deserves, at the very least, a little credit for getting up there and doing such a fine job. I have to fight my predisposition towards being a heavy person every day, some days I win and some days I lose, but I know that being heavy isn‘t most peoples’ desire, it is a daily battle. Fat is ugly and the not so veiled attempt to normalize obesity has taken on the ugly little hint that everytime you point out a fatty, it’s “gasp!” hate speech. Fat people lower aptitude test standards and make real life concerns like health care more expensive. This is one area where brow beating is likely both knee jerk and indicative of a need to rationalize one’s own behavior and girth. Do you want a fat cop protecting your neighborhood or a guy that can actually run? Do you want a fat firefighter attempting to save you or a guy that can actually move ten feet without breaking a sweat?
Defend fat as you would stupid; they are one and the same.

I don’t “hate” fat people en masse, but I do get tired of the excuses and will call fat what it is: FAT! If you wanna attack me for having a cogent argument and resort to the argument ad hominem, I can take it and actually find such responses both comedic and altogether expected.
Being fat is like being a violent Muslim: Excuses abound for one’s behavior, but in the end it ain’t God, then neighbors or the shifting wind that owns your lack of discipline and restraint; it’s “gasp!” you.
