Krauthammer Reacts to Paul Ryan’s RNC Speech: ‘Like Stiletto Attacks, Each One a Short Jab That Left a Mark’

Charles Krauthammer Reacts to Paul Ryans Speech at the Republican National Convention

Charles Krauthammer (Source: Fox News)

Following day two of the Republican National Convention, Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer reacted to vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan’s address at the GOP convention, calling it “bold” and “effective.”

“[Ryan] went way beyond just the attacks — which he did extremely effective — like stiletto attacks, each one a short jab that left a mark,” he said. ”

In one of the best received lines of his RNC speech, Ryan said, “College graduates should not have to live out their 20s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life.”

Krauthammer said the line “cleverly reminded people…of the fact that Obama has disappointed them. He had so much promise.”

He also said that there was a theme of “American exceptionalism”in both Ryan and Condoleezza Rice’s speech, each reminding Americans that Obama is conducting a “war on success.”

“It was thought that the first night of the convention was to be the night where Obama had his skin ripped off and the case against was made – and that night had been lost. Well, Ryan did that tonight,” Fox News political analyst Brit Hume said of Ryan’s speech.

He continued: “He probably did that job pretty well in the eyes of a great many people out across this country. The speech was interesting, it was compelling, it had humor and the moment when he mentioned his mother his pride in her […] that was worth a lot too in terms of the sense that this is a nice young man. A nice young man who delivered nonetheless a lethal shot night.”

I can’t even believe they let John McCain speak. He clearly had no desire to be there and added nothing. He had no energy or enthusiasm, was clearly just reading off the prompters and was just doing his usual “I’m a veteran and a former POW, therefore you MUST respect not only what I did in uniform, but every stupid thing I’ve voted for since.” No thanks, John Kerry’s separated-at-birth twin. The one thing he could have added of any value was the fact that he lost to Obozo and implored R&R to not repeat anything that he had done.

I agree Mr. McCain should go away for his place is gone. Too many decades of wrong doing in the military, no need for any war. Learn to appreciate what has been given for a just and peaceful world. What about the 15 million unemployed plus more, no need for NASA, look at the costs everywhere. Better spent putting it to work for the younger folk. Met another ex-Marine today could not be more than 25, working minimum wage at the local gas station (cashier)? Whats wrong with this? He spent 7 years of his life to do this? All too common, parents are responsible for teaching their kids, i.e. do nothing in highschool, do nothing in life, then live with parents and become burden on society. Why critizize muslims, they have the highest rate of educated kids in the US. Can lazy americans speak of the same.

Because moms and dads let today’s youth get away with treating the parents like children. Just today I saw a child getting on a bus, probably the first day of school, and they were giving the child a rock-star treatment with five flashing cameras.

Man on a Mission — Ryan did not lie. The factory, which he correctly stated in his speech was “slated for closure,” was in fact still open until June of 2009 (last production was in April if I read it correctly). Everything Ryan said was completely accurate. The President, as a candidate in Feb 2008, used that plant as an example of one that his policies could prevent from closing, or if closed, then it could be an example of one re-opened after re-tolling in order to produce the “fuel-efficient cars of the future.“ Obama is taking credit for ”saving” GM, but that factory closed in 2009 and is still closed, just as Ryan said. His point was that like so many others around the country, those laid-off factory workers are still waiting for the promised recovery that hasn’t happened.

This is really for Man on a Mission. The GM plant in Janesville closed during the summer of 2009 after losing much of the lines of trucks and SUV’s it used to build. Just because MSNBC says it closed in 2008 doesn‘t mean it’s true.

Ryan speech was a good one but too many lies. Summary of Romney’s speech:

      1) We wanted Obama to succeed and he failed us LOL
      2) We will create 12 million jobs – Make things up
      3) 5 point plan – From 59, soon it will be 1 point plan.
      4) I built a small business from nothing – Teary eyes
      5) There is no Hope, no Change – supposed to be a zinger.
      6) I will be second coming of Reagan – though i have no convictions.
      7) We will have strong defense – blow the budget into more deficit

Fox and Blazers will cheer but there will be no bump in polls.

    Ryan was terrific !
He is EXACTLY what America needs, EXACTLY what Romney needs.

That said, the RNC missed the 2 big speeches,
that would have blown down the doors.
    First, Gingrich-
he can take Oblameo & his hoodlums to task like no other,
carve him up & serve him as yesterday’s leftovers.
His wit & wisdom is in a realm, all its own.
That was a HUGE opportunity& the old guard let it get away.

The other speaker should have been Rep. Allen West-
he can tear this current administration to pieces and do it with a smile.
That would‘ve recognized the Tea Party’s input & also, scored huge with America !

What’s wrong with the convention movers & shakers?
    What were they thinking ?
    Give Romney/Ryan the proper backup.
Instead, they allowed Rick Santorum to speak.
There’s something wrong with that guy, he’s a very sore loser.
If you caught his interview with Gwen Eifel & Judy Woodruff on PBS,
you were screaming for someone to get the hook & drag him off.

He went on & on about Romney’s lack of charisma,
not only playing right into these Libs’ hands
but also, offering up all sorts of poison darts.
He’s an ungrateful jerk, thinks he knows it all-
obviously, the least gracious & the most arrogant.

He‘s outwardly speaking about Romney’s character,
when he should shut the hell up.
Sounds like he doesn’t want Romney to win, freeing his own pathway, again.

I, for one can’t stand this guy.
Gingrich should have been given his slot to speak.

      He IS an embarrassment !
I was shocked to hear his stinging review, Tuesday night on Romney’s likeability
      but not surprised.
He would not let it go & kept spoon-feeding the PBS Libs,
so much so, they they kept bringing it up Wednesday night.

Yes, I wanted Gingrich, as the nominee.
America doesn‘t need a kissin’ cousin in the Oval Office, we NEED a LEADER.
Churchill was not liked, either but he knew how to LEAD & that he did.
Gingrich is more Churchillian than anyone on the political scene.

We don’t need to “like” a president… We need to “Love” a LEADER !

That said, we agreed to back the nominee,
to rid America of the disaster in the White House.
The American People understand that…. Santorum, obviously didn’t get the memo.
      He’s a backstabber.
For ALL his sanctimonious preaching, he’s a bitter sleazebag.

      Gingrich should have spoken,
he would leave not one of Obama’s stones, unturned
and been much more respectful of Romney
& the need to clinch this thing….
for the American People & our Nation.
He should be an integral part of this campaign
and a player in Romney’s administration.

Yes, Gingrich & his wife are scheduled to give remarks,
      following a video on presentation.

While this is admirable, I still would have rather seen Gingrich
get a slot, similar to what they gave Santorum & Huckabee
to go out there and slap down every inconsistency, apology & illegality
directly tied to Obalmeo & his administration-
just as he so brilliantly does with Chris Matthews & the rest of the repulsive press.

When Gingrich is at the top of his game, there is NO one better-
      on Domestic or Foreign Policy.

This is the Romney’s & the RNC’s campaign to lose.
They’ve energized it with young, talented Rockin’ Ryan.

Its time to pull out ALL the artillery,
it does NO good sitting in storage warehouses.

You see how desperate the opponent is,
we know we can’t trust them, they are BRUTES….nothing will stop them
from winning or STEALING this election !

The RNC & Romney owes it to the American People & Tea Party
to get the big guns, Gingrich, West, Palin out on the campaign trail !
Give squealing Santorum a dunce hat & send him to the corner.

My church organization has a missionary in India. I have talked to him when he visits our church. Five separate occasions he has been beaten and left for dead on the streets. He has to sneak people of of the villages so they can be baptized, and keep quiet about their conversion to Christianity. There have been men and women who leave Islam and are killed for it, there are former Taliban that were converted and have surrendered bombs they made to him. Some have admitted to helping place bombs and assisting suicide bombers. So tell me I shouldn’t be afraid of fighting them in America, worrying about if that abandoned car on the side of the road is going to explode.

I’m sorry but to me a planned and concerted effort that killed thousands of people put into action by a group of people who believe themselves to be the sovereign authority of an area is a declaration of war. The ensuing actions taken by that group follow the guerrilla warfare guidelines, and are considered military actions by the said group. Take out the Muslims, and put in say North Korea. If N Korea intentionally did some thing that killed 3000 Americans most presidents would do what Bush did and ask Congress for a declaration of war. To be honest some wouldn‘t wait for that and start the 60 days of military conflict before getting Congress’ approval. As far as the whole we started it please tell me what military action we did before 9/11 and after Desert Storm/Shield that triggered the attacks.

I loved Ryan’s speech but it did miss one important jab. He needed to explain to seniors watching that the reimbursements to providers in obamacare will cause them to have trouble finding a doctor to treat them. This was Ryan’s opportunity to sell his plan and he missed that one opportunity. All ears were on his speech and he covered alot of ground. You can’t explain all the pitfalls of obamacare in one speech~how it will lead to universal and coverage will not be the same. I just think seniors need to know MORE than the fact that they stole $7billion out of the fund. Picking Ryan was the bold move that will win Romney the presidency. I have no doubts about that!

Men are never going to fix that problem, only women can. Yet the women on the right claim they want this infanticide stopped, but they hardly utter an audible word against it. Their whispers of opposition sound more like support or at least acceptance. Where are their demonstrations against it? Only a few Evangelical men and women even bother to try.

SND, more than half the country get some kind of government handout. When it went to this point, the critical mass shifted power to the takers in life, not the producers. The GOP doesn‘t have a Santa’s bag of goodies for the lazy & shiftless. The guys like Ryan only have the tough talk of the state we are in and that the handouts to everyone have to stop. Face it, we’re just another Greece financially. But the lazy morons don’t want to hear about it.

I am afraid there is not that much hope and reason for optimism left. I escaped from the Soviet Union and can tell you, my American friends, once the Marxists are in power, the rules of democracy don’t apply anymore! It’s not going to be as simple as going to vote! They control trillions of dollars, the media, our education system, about to grant TENS of millions of illegals the voting rights. You think in terms of following the constitution and the rule of law and they value the constitution less than a used piece of tp. We are in the mode of trying to have an intelligent conversation, a meaningful discussion on issues and they just willing to eliminate us, and not just wishing, but have the means to do that.

Really who cares, after the 1st night of the RNC, by not legally doing what was suppose to happen, my faith has come down about 50%. No one is running to get the country back on the right path, it is all a power game just like being a King. IM GOING TO DO IT MY WAY, or else. So it does not matter what Ryan said.

Do you live in FL PIRATE? I do, I actually live in the big bend area. The same area Issac was first predicted to hit, before it went on to NO. ANY category of hurricane is very deadly, a category one will have wind gusts of over 100 mph. The eye wall will have CONSTANT winds from 75mph – 95 mph, it is nearly impossible for a human to move against that level of wind. Most airports entirely shut down if there is a consistent wind of around 40 mph, a category one hurricane can knock out power to an entire city. It would have been physically impossible to to much of anything if Isaac kept his course, and very risky still with the damage done to the west coast of FL.
“At least one storm-related death was reported in Louisiana. Nearly 700,000 homes and businesses in Louisiana and Mississippi were without power late Wednesday. Airline, rail and automotive traffic was expected to remain snarled across several states through week’s end.”- http://www.usatoday.com/weather/storms/story/2012-08-29/isaac-tropical-storm/57420246/1
But still it was legally required so they had better risk peoples lives, start with people not being able to get there. Travel through a city that could have been severely damaged, and run the show without power. My faith has increased some in the party, they showed that they had good common sense to listen to locals advice and not risk peoples lives.

Ryan’s speech was clearly aimed at the disappointed. It stings the democratic reaction, because the reality of this disappointment is clearly felt amongst young people. The facade will be set up to show the dems are energized, but you can tell, even now, that the atmosphere Obama projected is gone.

Obama and the democrats are clearly going ‘scorched-earth’ in this campaign, but it is having an opposite effect. The polling data the democrats are reading must not be the same we are getting at Real Clear Politics and such, because this strategy would not employed, except as a last resort.

They got a gift in Todd Akin, but even his campaign seems to be recovering. It‘s all going wrong for the dems and they can’t believe it.

Paul Ryan connects with the American people. That is why the O-blame-a people are scared of him. It is obvious why they were all so afraid of the Tea Party when it began. Because the contrast between real Americans and the O-blame-a people (who polished his image with P.R. firms in his 2008 campaign) is such a stark difference, and deep inside those people knew that they could not compete. The truth and the genuine good character of Paul Ryan and all of the Tea Party, and those they elected is something that you just cannot fake. The people have some good B.S. detectors, which are God-given, and the people just need the choice put before them. That is what Paul Ryan accomplishes just by looking straight into the camera and telling what he knows. The sick feeling that you get in the pit of your stomach every time you hear O-blame-a blaming again will no longer resonate. The thrill is gone.

Saying Ryan gave a “great” speech is spitting on the graves of past presidents that actually delivered great speeches. Why is it I’m only 31 years old and can see this? Aren’t some of you here old enough to actually have been alive to hear some of the truly great speeches of our time?

Hop on youtube and refresh your memory. This speech was void of any substance whatsoever. It was nothing but piolitical speak and it actually brought tears to some of those in the audience. I think I saw a woman drooling. Is there anything he said that didn’t get crazy cheers from the audience?

Because your rant refers to history in general terms and was not specific and therefore is inadequate support for your hateful contention. Additionally, your acerbic tone combined with no support for your contention means you have failed your own test – there is NO SUBSTANCE in your rant.

Paul Ryan is a VICE PRESIDENTIAL candidate, not an elected President, yet. I don’t know what you expected unless you snuck in from the Obama Camp to rain on his parade. The purpose of the speech was to formally introduce him to the country, accept his nomination, and show solidarity with the Presidential candidate. He did all those things, plus made his mother proud and honored her achievements, and we got to see his wife and children, all very proud of their father. And, I think he did a pretty good job of tearing the hide off Obama, per Krauthammer, and sprinkling salt on the open wounds. Not bad for a kid from Janesville, ever been there?
