Krauthammer to PBS Host: You Manage to Introduce a ‘Hell of a Lot of Bias’

Krauthammer to PBS Host: You Manage to Introduce a Hell of a Lot of BiasOn Friday’s episode of the PBS show “Inside Washington,” host Gordon Peterson accused Tea Party members of lacking a grip on reality due to their support for House Republicans’ Cut, Cap, and Balance Act.

To which weekly panelist Charles Krauthammer responded “I like the way you pose an objective question implying the insanity of a Republican proposal which passed the House…You manage to introduce a hell of a lot of bias.”

Below is the transcript:

GORDON PETERSON, HOST: House Republicans say they have a solution: Cut, Cap, and Balance. Tea Party folks love the idea of a Constitutional amendment to balance the budget. At what point does reality rear its ugly head with some of these people, cause it ain’t going to happen?

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: I like the way you pose an objective question implying the insanity of a Republican proposal which passed the House. I just want the viewers to understand how this is a fair and balanced program.

PETERSON: Well, we do our best. We don’t have the vast resources of Rupert Murdoch and Fox News, but we do the best we can.

KRAUTHAMMER: I understand, but on a shoestring, you manage to introduce a hell of a lot of bias.

PETERSON: Thank you very much.

KRAUTHAMMER: I commend you on your…

PETERSON: Can you answer my question? When does reality rear its ugly head with these people?

Believe it or not, Peterson is a Marine officer (once a Marine, always a Marine many would assert). He’s been on TV in my neck of the woods since I was snot-nosed kid. I remember my grandfather watching this program when he was still cognizant… and did Pappy ever love Charles! I’m a big Krauthammer fan, also. Witty and able to go toe to toe with the best (worst?) of them.
Looks like these folks are having fun. Charles will hold his own and then some. This wasn’t ugly or basely stupid. I’d rather watch civil and intelligent discourse peppered with quips and ripostes than what passes for debate in some circles. I can’t recall Peterson ever letting his politics sneak in when acting as an anchor, but it’s been years since folks were limited to local news. He may be a complete leftist nut, but I doubt he‘d let Krauthammer on the show he produces if he couldn’t hold his own or didn’t want challenged.
    Good stuff.
Great contrast to the likes of Bill Maher’s masturbatory dreck.

Peterson being a Marine has nothing to do with anything. It is wholly unsuprising that an officer, used to the class based society of the Corps with all of its perks and his ability to command with impunity, would be a liberal who hasn’t taken his oath seriously. It is a common problem among officers. Personally, I credit it to the fact that officers don‘t have to work their way up the enlisted ranks and that they aren’t taken from the best leadership in those ranks. Rather, the only thing that sets officers apart is a college degree in most cases, and as I learned from my first semester at OU, they start indoctrination in liberal philosophy early and often. The rare exception is the limited duty officer or LDO, and they cannot go higher than the rank of Captain in the Marine Corps. I would much rather serve under an LDO than any general. That is my 2 cents.

You need to get your facts straight before you post them. An LDO can get promoted beyond Captain. Further, as a retired Marine who was both enlisted for almost ten years and an officer for 15 years, I don’t understand your comments about officers. It sounds like you are a bitter enlisted person who did not see the big picture. I am sure you might have run into bad leaders, but that is just a fact of life. Some great leaders did not work their way through the ranks while some poor leaders did. Finally, many officers in the Marine Corps are prior enlisted.

Peterson being a Marine is no surprise to me either. The officer corps is more concerned with their promotion than doing what is right. They will sell out their own if it means a promotion. Sad but true in many cases. I just experienced, first hand, what the officer corps has become. They, like others in higher govt positions, think they are above the law and will lie, cheat, and steal to advance their careers and get back at those who get in their way.

Point taken. Being a Marine and/or officer does not equate to any particular greatness or insight wholesale. I was just pointing out a fact that Peterson may not be your typical left wing goon. Most left wing goons (and for that matter, debased sociopaths) don’t enter the armed services. The exceptions tend to stick out as noted by some of the replies. A certain Cpl. Manning comes to mind….

To further the rant, I’m former enlisted Navy 1987-1992. If the military now is anything like society in general, it’s full of a LOT more candy asses, and believe me, there were candy asses up the wazoo even back in my day. I got right around the time there was a major cultural shift in America and it was odd in a way how vastly things were different – especially being stationed in Scotland for the last 3 years and then returning stateside. This has always stuck with me for whatever reason.

And, I never really could fit into that class-based system in the military. I doubt officers or enlisted really differ in that regard. I didn’t particularly like the fact that your performance was based mostly on non-job-related activities, which I never could quite come to grips with. That’s obviously why I only put in one hitch.

One thing is for sure, though, enlisted get paid a HELLUVA lot more than I did when I got out and it’s not even close even after you adjust for inflation. Not that I’m bitter about it, but if you pay that much more, you’d expect to get a better product – not that I’m saying the average military person is not as solid now as when I was in.

I’m off the soap box now so, as you were.

The point being, no group of people, teachers, police, military are 100% perfect. I respect all but when the bad ones aren’t dealt with all look bad. I work with teachers and some are bad. I lose respect for the others that don’t speak out. That is the problem with organized/socialist like groups. Your protection comes from the group. You don’t have the freedom to speak out. If you can’t fire someone then the system is bad.

You’re an idiot! The Officer leadership that I’m serving with in the United States Military today is for the most part above reproach. I couldn‘t be more proud of the Officers that I’m serving with and they are all doing an amazing job of taking care of the enlisted personnel that are under their command and supervision. Every now and then you will have bad apples but in general, the leadership of this great country’s military is in GREAT hands. Your statement on this post after experiencing one semester at a college is pure Marxist. It is obvious that you view Officers as bourgeois since in your opinion they don‘t have to ’work their way up the enlisted ranks.‘ That’s a bunch of bull. For this argument, if you really want to be part of the solution, go to college, bust your butt and get your degree and become an Officer, and then post what you said. Maybe then I will respect what you wrote. Until then, I don’t want to see another post like this!!

      @JZS,

Don’t be butt hurt. Charles is a wonderful spokesman for the Conservative movement not simply because he is eloquent, intelligent, and delivers unvarnished assessments of the political debate, but also for the fact he is a reformed Progressive (much like myself). He has a unique perspective to many Conservatives in that he sees the fallacy of Progressive policies (i.e. their success is not supported by facts/history, and fail). Wealth redistribution, centralized planning, and intense government planning lead to the collapse of economies and societies, not the growth.

Krauthammer is not one for taking marching orders from anyone.

The host is so ignorant of his own bias that when he’s gently chided by Krauthammer this Mensa rep. can’t even think on his feet.

When he hears the phrase “fair and balanced”, he goes straight into Borg Mode,

      “Well… we… do… our… best… We… don’t… have… the… vast… resources… blah, blah, blah, attack Murdoch, attack Fox…blah, blah, blah. How reality based is that?

Then when Krauthammer rolls over him with his wheel chair this “brainiac” pulls a
Whiz Kid, “thank you very much”. He might as well have added, “May I have another”?

Like a punch drunk fighter he grabs at the ropes while trying to stay on his feet. Throwing his best and last punch at his opponent he repeats, “when does reality rear its ugly head with these people”. Sorry loser. You just got schooled on that question, if you’re going to repeat yourself almost word for word Charlie won’t let you out of your locker until third period.

Continually raising the debt ceiling is like being addicted to drugs. Better to quit now and face the harrowing withdrawals, which suck but are only temporary, as opposed to keeping on until you crash and burn for good.

Kick the Obama bum out. 2012

Shows when Progressives, Liberals, and the Mass Media don’t have any true and detailed facts, they attack. It is time ‘thinking’ PEOPLE fight back. It is amazing one media company like Fox News is going against the half-a-dozen or more Progressive and Liberal Mass Media companies and yet Fox News is the big, bad guy. Another yet, they are winning the ratings. Amazing. How Progressives and Liberals can follow the ‘talking points’ so well. Does the Mass Media have anyone that is not controlled by the top puppet master, George Soros…NO! Amazing, monkeys in a cage.

I believe there has been only a few time I have really disagreed with “The Hammer”, so I don’t have a big problem believing that even as outnumbered as he usually is on that program, he will almost always win the argument. This was no exception. Limbaugh, Levin, Beck, and The Hammer can be counted on to win the argument (like Limbaugh says), with half his brain tied behind his back.

I like him a lot too, I wish the Republican leadership would listen to him more, he has some pretty good ideas. Obviously a brilliant man.

I agree, Charles has such a vast knowledge about what is going on in our country. He must be a speed reader and my mind went blank, people who can see something one time and never forget it. Charles is great I love to listen to him.

Absolutely, Mr.G. Why are we wasting tax dollars on such tripe? PBS and NPR need to stand or fall on their own merits and money.
