Krauthammer: Wow, Obama Has Really Given Up on This Economy, Hasn’t He?

Following President Barack Obama’s announcement on Monday that he would extend the Bush-era tax cuts for anyone making less than $250,000 a year, conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer accused him of giving up on the U.S. economy.

“I think this is a declaration by Obama the fact that he’s now pivoted back to this old issue that he’s been touting for at least four years. It’s a declaration that he’s surrendered on the state of the economy and on the issue of his stewardship of it,” Krauthammer said during a panel discussion on Fox News’ “Special Report W/ Bret Baier.”

“This is a white flag. There’s no way he can defend it,” he added.

“When the numbers came out last Friday about the June employment numbers, which had followed the ones from May, the worst, the second quarter was the worst for employment in two years,” Krauthammer said.

“This is supposed to be the time in a recovery when the numbers are really accelerating upwards, and they are in retreat or flat.”

The conservative author continued:

So he knows this is over, and there’s no way if the numbers are like this now there’s going to be any substantive difference between now and Election Day. So that’s not an issue that he even wants to talk about. So what he’s doing is trying to shift subjects to say, “Look at the shiny object over here,” and that is the fairness equity issue, and that’s what he wants to run on, at least to try to debate and make that the centerpiece. Because again, he can’t run on economic stewardship.

There isn’t even a pretense. He tries, but there’s nobody who takes it seriously, that this taking from the rich with this tax increase for the upper incomes is going to do anything for employment, for growth, for lowering joblessness. It’s simply a matter of the government taking from the rich, and then Obama and the central government takes the money, some of it gets sprinkled on a Solyndra, crony capitalism, high-speed train on the West Coast that goes nowhere. And some of it will trickle down to the rest of us. That’s the program. And it fits in his strategy because it fits with the negative attacks on Romney.

The whole idea is Romney’s a rich guy who doesn’t care, I’m a guy who cares about equity, fairness, and the future of the middle class. That’s how it works. It’s the slight positive side of the astonishingly negative attacks on Romney. You mentioned 50,000 of them in June.

“But it’s a surrender on economic issues as a whole, on macro-economics,” Krauthammer concluded.

    Obama has campaigned against the so-called Bush “tax cuts” for years. For him to embrace them now is a COMPLETE surrender.

    The million dollar question is: Will Romney leverage Obama’s reversal into a clear narrative of economic failure? Or will he chase whatever shadows Obama’s surrogates throw against the wall…

      Uh no. I don’t know what is going on but Romney refuses to talk about anything other than jobs and the economy. Not in any specificity and not contrasting himself in any effective way to Oama’s failed policies. He needs a new strategy and fast. Obama’s whole strategy is 1) Your neighbor makes more than you–aren’t you jealous and want them taxed more to make things fair 2) you have been ripped off and need your loans and debts forgiven–you were taken advantage of 3) I’m black and you should feel guilty there was slavery and 4) I will give everyone amnesty and open the borders 5) I will take powers from congress and rule by fiat. What does Romney and the GOP do? Nothing. Their strategy?We need jobs. Uh, hmmmm. Ok..Game over.

      When Bush took office in 2000 there was a surplus. By the time Bush left office there was a gigantic deficit due to 2 unnecessary, and unfunded wars and the lack of tax revenue due to the tax cuts.

      When Obama took office the economy was going over a cliff and unemployment was almost 10 %. Since Obama took office there has been a steady increase in private sector jobs and a decrease in unemployment. There have been more private sector jobs created since Obama took office than in Bush’s 8 years. The jobs loses have been in government jobs, local state and federal due to the lack of funds because of tax cuts.

      Bushes tax cuts proves that tax cuts don’t work to improve an economy or create jobs. Romney support the same failed tax policies as Bush.

      Obama cares about the middle class, and his polices will help the middle calls. Romney only cares about protecting his millions which his has off shored. Romney does not create jobs, he create wealth for himself and his Bain buddies, and only pays 15% taxes on his unearned income . Of course we are not even sure he even pays taxes as he won’t release his tax forms.

      Usama provided the 555 brigade to the Taliban in the fight against the Northern Alliance. The Taliban would not have been so keen to mix it up with the U.S. with the Lion of Panshir alive. So Al Qaeda assassinated him a week before the 911.

      Feeling secure in the own backyard with the Northern Alliance crumbling they green lighted 911.

      The GREAT Bernbart would have said going after the Taliban is too expensive I guess we have to wait to get Usama.

      The Taliaban refused to extradite Usama they figured how could the U.S go thru Iran or the former USSR or Pakistan to get to there country. They figured that we would bleed a little & go home. They figured like Saddam that we would expend a little effort & then go home leaving them in place

    There is never a good time to raise taxes. On anybody. When prosperity reigns, who wants to do anything that might kill the buzz? When hard times hit, why, the last thing you want to do in a recession is take money out of people’s pockets. Therefore, taxes on everyone should keep going down, and down, and down, until we are all in the enviable condition of the “47% who pay no taxes.”

Apparently the biggest tax hike in US history on the middle class and employers wasn’t enough for little Barry…he needs to tax the employers a little more.     As a small (one woman) business, I can tell you the walls are starting to come together. It’s a matter of time before they compress so badly that bankruptcy is the last option. If only I could afford it.
    I’ve used every penny to keep my doors open and make sure my customers go unscathed through this horrific economy. No, BHO has no worry over “our economy”. He‘s only interested in his selfish well being and spending money the USA doesn’t have. He continues day after day, getting us further in debt. Why do the liberals support such a non-business professional? Are they asleep, or do they want socialism to take over? Followers of Obama are either brain dead, or stupid as there is no other explaination. The word “Free” has to end. Campaigning or taxpayer money is BHO’s only direction. Yes, Snowleopard, you hit the nail on the head. Basically, we’re all (even the liberals) are in a world of trouble, they just have their heads so far down in the sand, they are ignorant to facts. I know this, as we have liberal friends who worship the ground BHO walks.     I wasn’t a very smart Christian when we elected Obama President. No I did not vote for him but neither did I pray for our government and the people to do the right thing. God is in control, like it or not, and if we ask and let Him help us we will find out we don’t have all the answer but He does in His own way and in his own time. VOTE WISELY in November as your kids future depends on it.

    This is the Cloward-Piven strategy. To overwhelm the system with debt and entitlements,destroying our economy . To make the majority of us dependent on government. Throw in the small arms treaty,with Iran in charge of it, and the U.N. Agenda 21 and America is no longer the world leader. Sovereigny is gone and The New world Order is in place with China as the economic leadr, and Islam the enforcer! People who don’t believe in God will believe everything else!!

    Obama never cared about saving the economy. From ‘day one’ he has tried to destroy it. Why do O‘Reilly and these other guys on FOX believe Obama’s trying to help ‘save’ the country? Unbelievable. Beck was over 3 1/2 years ahead of the rest on FOX. Obama should have been ousted from the start. By doing that, Obama would have been a great help.

    Take the day off on election day, and take every republican to the polls. Call your church, your synagogue, fishing buddies, hunting buddies, every number on your phone, every number on your wife’s phone, and take them to vote. The nation can not tolerate another 4 years of this. (Remember what he said to the Russian… just wait until he is reelected, when he can be more flexible…. or words to that effect). This man has trounced the Constitution, thumbed his nose at the American Citizen in so many ways it isn’t even necessary to list them. Equivalency arguments are a waste of time.
    Get to the polls and vote this hack down the road.

    Most people on here want Obama out for all the obvious reasons, except the trolls. How do you reach the 50% who will still vote for Obama because they don’t even know that we have a Republic, not a democracy. They don’t even know who The Founding Fathers are and what they did. They don’t understand Socialism let alone Communism. All they want is hand outs. Is there any hope?

      Long answer: No, there is no hope, in that the system has geared itself for maximum indifference and escapism from the bulk of people. The indifference is the only reason why the Democrats have succeeded in bringing this once-mighty nation to its knees. Our only hope is to protect what we have right now and begin creeping back toward our founding principles, one step at a time, and to do that we have to neutralize the Progressive taint.

      NH, as I see it here it what would have to happen. First you don’t have to reach 50% of the voters. You have to reach about 35% of the voters who are independent or are not ideologue D or R. The part of the electorate that you talk about; the voters that will for the D (Obama) regardless of the state of our Republic is more like 27%.

      I’m now going to make the assumption that you are an R. If I’m wrong, please forgive me. But if you are an R, then you have to work hard to nominate a compelling candidate. A candidate compelling enough that I’s, like me, would consider voting for them instead of a third party or writing someone in. If the R’s keep giving me choices like Ford, Reagan, Bush I, Dole, Bush II, McCain and Romney they will NOT get my vote. Ever.

    But did the Far Left Obama Democrats ever intend to “fix ” the economy ? Seems this added race/ class warfare business is just more proof that their plan was never about “ fixing ” the capitalist economy. Their plan was to demolish it . These were the ACORN “organizers” whose pressure/ Discrimination Card brought about the banking and economic chaos. Fix the economy ? Now are the Democrats are moving on to Plan B : civil disorder ?

      I agree. We‘re always one step behind in the game of ’play fair.” We messed up when we thought the dims were going to have a civil discourse. We messed up when we didn’t realize lying was part of their game plan. We messed up thinking we would be listened to or respected. Our ‘golden rule’ philosophy has to quickly change to go on the defensive. Now we need to think ‘down the road,’ and head them off, anticipating that they want really‘ bad things’ (for lack of a better term) for the ordinary citizen.

    Obama does not care about the economy or the nation; he has to keep pushing for his reelection to finish off his fundamental transformation of our Republic into a communist system. This is one more election tactic he is using, nothing less and nothing more.

    Heaven help us if he gets a second term, then his narcissistic insanity will make him doubly dangerous when he unleahses his anger upon the nation.

    I agree with Charles. This is an example of how to destroy the remainder of the small businesses out there purposely or an act of class warfare. Small businesses that have run this country have been struggling for years. Obama would not understand this as he has not business experience. If you put the type of stressors on the economy that Obama has and not expect a different result is beyond me. I am very concerned what this means for the future of America. Such a large amount of unemployed on a stressed tax base is not sustainable. You can’t print enough money to handle that nightmare. But, there is still hope in Americans. God Bless
