Kucinich, Lawmakers Sue Obama to Stop U.S. Operations in Libya

Today, lawmakers from both parties announced a lawsuit they have launched against the White House. The purpose? To challenge U.S. operations in Libya. This is a rare development, as this is a bi-partisan initiative that targets the executive branch’s war powers. ABC News has more:
Reps. Dennis Kucinich and Walter Jones continued their bipartisan quest to end the U.S. military’s participation in the conflict in Libya, filing a lawsuit Tuesday in federal court against President Obama to “challenge the commitment of the United States to war in Libya absent the required constitutional legal authority.”
The lawsuit challenges what the lawmakers see as “the executive branch’s circumvention of Congress and its use of international organizations such as the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to authorize the use of military force abroad, in violation of the Constitution.”
“With regard to the war in Libya, we believe that the law was violated. We have asked the courts to move to protect the American people from the results of these illegal policies,” Kucinich said in a statement announcing the suit.
While frustration is growing among lawmakers over the administration’s failure to address the ongoing military operation, the White House is preparing to defend U.S. involvement in Libya. According to CNN:
The administration will provide a report to address a June 3 House resolution that raised questions about the president’s goal in Libya, how he hopes to achieve that goal, why he has not sought congressional authorization for involving U.S. troops abroad and how much the conflict will ultimately cost, National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said.
Yesterday, House Speaker John Boehner sent a harsh letter to President Obama that listed some congressional demands. In his note, Boehner warned the president that he will be violating the Constitution if he continues operations without Congress’ consent. The speaker gave the president until Friday to fully divulge the mission to lawmakers (interestingly, the two are slated to play golf that day with Vice President Joe Biden and Ohio Gov. John Kasich). FOX News Insider has more on the letter and the lawsuit:
This most recent move to challenge the White House in court makes it clear that some members of Congress want immediate answers from the president. Vietor claims that the White House is preparing information that will be delivered to members of Congress sometime today. Vietor also defends the White House, saying that the administration has testified in 10 hearings and has been involved in other conversations covering Libya since the mission first began in March.

holder to be removed 34 -12 by the end of august
once he is gone move to impeach by DEMOCRATS by december 25 – 7 to allow time for democrats to run a campaign starting in january
any takers ???
lybia/ yemmen issue and the gun running issue will make waves , and holder is the lynchpin when he falls the whole administration will fall when obamacare is ruled unconstitutional it will provide the momentum that along with the gun running case and the unconstitutional actions in lybia will force democrats to act, and they will throw obama under the bus in an ettmpt to remain viable. but, with the movement of success pertaining to union issues will find the dems in a position they are not likely to survive for quite some time
and, the ruckus involving valerie jarret and daly pertaining to the usama operation in which she and obama were isolated from operational planning and the war going on in the white house with valerie / mrs obama and daly will come to a head thus giving an opportunity for chicagos new mayor to make his move and sacrifice obama in hopes to save the progressive democrat movement
this will end well for us

Posted on June 15, 2011 at 1:04pmDo we have to impeach every time we disagree with a presidents decision? Don’t get me wrong, I don‘t think Obama should get another term to prove he still isn’t cut out to hold the office. Impeachment is a very serious process and expense. The legislative body essentially shuts down.
A better suggestion is just to talk to anyone who will listen to the sound of your voice about how he has failed, why he has failed, and why just about anyone is a better choice. Put up simple signs that say something like “Obama: Epic Fail”, or “Obama: No More Years”, or “Nope and Change President”. Something like that.
People do tend to have a herding mentality. In our laziness we like to be told what to do and will follow those that we think know what they are doing. So read up, get informed, and get out there. The more people hear about how disastrous this presidential term has been, the more people may look up the information and find out how right you are.
Take home: Don’t impeach him, just don’t vote for him. Just a thought…

The reason there were no “or else!”‘s contained in the Constitution is that the Founders believed in the integrity of office. “Thall shall not” was undisputed law within the federal government system, and as such was undisputed. how obama thinks that he can ignore this and just arbitrarily do whatever he wants….well, that is not only unconstitutional, but is actually a treasonous act. Posted on June 15, 2011 at 6:01pm@wildjoker5 Andrew Jackson was not impeached. retake history
@Mandors The war powers act is unconstitutional. Congress is specifcally granted the power to declare war in Art 1:8:11. As the power is directly granted to the Legislative branch, Congress has no authority to delegate any of it to the executive branch. That is Constitution 101
@Okie from Muskogee Absolutely absurd. No treatie can supersede the Constitution. Art:6 is quite clear that All treaties entered into MUST conform with the Constitution and the powers granted to Congress. The COurts have been VERY CLEAR about this for centuries. Only Progressives claim that treaties trump the Constitution. Any part of ANY treatie can be nullified by Congress and even more so by the People. For Instance:This Court (Supreme Court) has regularly and uniformly recognized the supremacy of the Constitution over a treaty.” ‑ Reid v. Covert. October 1956, 354 U.S. 1, at pg. 17.
@Armed Patriot Good point but Jackson wasn’t impeached.

SUE?!?!?!??! You have got to be kidding me, what is money to a man who just prints it up….what a loser, here is your chance to make yourself relevant again congress…..DO SOMETHING!!! We want nothing less than impeachment….make a statement…”
All Impeachment IS is a statement. It carries no weight or penalty unless the Senate (guess who controls that) decides to convict him of a crime. Also since the House os Republican, it can be seen as political posturing.
You don’t sue the President for money.
Obama losing a lawsuit in the judicial system would carry much more weight than the dog and pony show than an impeachment is.

Posted on June 16, 2011 at 4:31pmOk we are part of the way there, now let’s add Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and any other middle east countries where we are playing around in. Either declare war, win it and get something for our efforts and $$ like Iraq Oil for $50 a barrel for 10 years, or invest the $200 billion or more wasted on this nonsense in the US.
