LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police say Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Hines Ward was briefly detained at gunpoint in a mix-up over a reported stolen car but has been released.
Sgt. Maria Morrison says Hines and a woman friend were stopped in her car at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday in North Hollywood because the woman had reported it stolen.
Morrison says Hines was taken from the car at gunpoint and handcuffed until the woman proved the car was hers. The sergeant says the driver reported the vehicle stolen on April 19 after forgetting where she had parked it. She later found it but never canceled the report.
Police say Hines was cooperative. The woman‘s name wasn’t released, but she isn‘t Hines’ partner on “Dancing With the Stars.”

Posted on May 5, 2011 at 2:34pmI would think with a gun pointed at him Hines would be very cooperative, what I don’t get is all the smart ass comments. How the hell would he even know anything about the dumbshit’s reporting her car stolen, and who’s business is it that he was out a l:30 a.m.
Report Post »As a retired policemen I can‘t see where anything other than dumbo’s memory is in question. It’s a wonder that she was cooperative with the police, but then again, it didn’t say she was, did it?

Posted on May 5, 2011 at 12:22pmCops normally put you in handcuffs while they figure things out – better for you and better for them. Hines played it cool – he had no skin in the game (had done nothing illegal) and it was between the woman and the cops aka the stolen car issue.

Posted on May 5, 2011 at 11:37amCops should be treating all citizens better there is no reason to put cuffs on someone that has not been implicated in a crime and how stupid are they any way the woman have and id that should have been able to clarify things in 2 seconds or are cops just that lazy.

Posted on May 5, 2011 at 2:03pmum he was impicated in a crime…the car was reported stolen by his idiot friend…Police aren’t ganna pull over a stolen car and assume that the car belongs to the person driving it, they will assume that it is the thief who is driving…they aren’t ganna just walk up and say “hey do you mind proving this is your car”…its ganna be pull them out and than figure out who is who…they absolutely did the right thing

Report Post »You sound like you may be too lazy to just read the article yourself. The Cops acted perfectly, and so did Mr. Ward. You don’t see him ranting in the news about his unjust treatment and handcuffing by the cops. No, he realizes that his friend made a mistake and caused the confusion.

Posted on May 5, 2011 at 11:27amBy the way Blazers. Being handcuffed before being placed under arrest is a violation of your Fourth Amendment rights. I know, I know, only certain parts of that pesky Constitution matters to most of you. Just sayin’
Report Post »Luckywon
Posted on May 5, 2011 at 12:25pmTYR – Actually, in this case, you are 100% wrong. By “This Case” I am referring to the story in which you posted your moronic remark. The 4th Amendment….. Ahem……
Report Post »“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
The key words you should be noting from that paragraph are… “unreasonable” and “probable cause.”
While Mr. Hines ward was not actually guilty of any crime, and therefore released immediately, he was in fact riding in a vehicle that was classified as stolen.
Why is it that the liberals think that the one group of people who love the constitution the most, who are devoted to it, who actually carry it around with them, know the least about it? Why are liberals so stupid?
