LA Cops: Officer’s Tip Was Key in Nabbing Giants Fan Assault Suspect

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police flooded Los Angeles with drawings and descriptions of the suspects in the Dodger Stadium beating of Bryan Stow, including new billboards put up just last week. They took in hundreds of tips.

But it was a lead from inside law enforcement that led them to the man they say was the main aggressor in the grisly beating.

A tip from a parole officer late last week gave detectives the break they’d sought for seven weeks, and on Sunday they arrested 31-year-old Giovanni Ramirez, the key suspect in the attack on Stow, a San Francisco Giants fan brutalized in the parking lot after the rival teams’ season opener on March 31.

Ramirez was detained in an early morning raid by detectives and SWAT team members with a search warrant for an East Hollywood apartment building in what Police Chief Charlie Beck called a “huge step” in the investigation.

The Los Angeles man was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and was being held on $1 million bail, police said in a statement.

Beck choked back tears as he described getting a call at 7 a.m. Sunday from Assistant Chief Earl Paysinger, after putting 20 full-time detectives on the case who worked for more than 6,000 hours.

“He said the words I’ve been waiting for, for seven weeks,” Beck said. “He said that we had Bryan’s assault suspect in custody.”

Ramirez was among several people detained for questioning after police served search warrants and seized evidence in two places, the apartment building and a home, police said in a statement. All but Ramirez were expected to be released, the statement said. Beck did not know if Ramirez had hired an attorney.

Police also seized evidence from both places.

A second warrant was served at a home, police said, but provided no further details. They also seized evidence from both places.

Beck said Ramirez had become familiar to many in Los Angeles as “Suspect 1” from flyers and billboards. They described the man as having a bald head, goatee, and tattoos on his neck. Both men were wearing Dodger jerseys during the attack. Rewards totaling $250,000 have been offered for information leading to arrests.

Two other suspects remained at large: Another man who took part in the beating and a woman who drove the two men from the stadium, police said.

Stow, a 42-year-old paramedic and father of two, was transferred to San Francisco General Hospital after he was initially treated at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center, where doctors put him in a medically induced coma to help prevent seizures.

Doctors recently reported that Stow has been able to open his eyes, but he remained in critical condition.

LA Cops: Officers Tip Was Key in Nabbing Giants Fan Assault Suspect

His mother Ann Stow said she knew police in Los Angeles would catch someone, and praised both their work and the way they dealt with her family.

“They were so compassionate with our family, and reached out to us, and made a promise that they were not going to rest until they got these guys,” she told KCBS radio. “So that’s how I put it out of my mind. I didn’t think about it, I knew it was going to be taken care of, and obviously they did what they promised.”

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said after hearing the news Sunday he called Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to express his thanks for authorities’ efforts and to congratulate him.

Giants fan Les Wong, 37 of San Francisco celebrated the news as he headed to the game.

“It’s good to hear that they caught someone. That kind of thing doesn’t belong in sports,” said Wong, who was wearing a Giants hat and Giants t-shirt.

Following the attack, Beck beefed up security at Dodger Stadium to deal with fights that had been breaking out at games in recent years and complaints from fans of opposing teams of verbal abuse and threats.

Beck said Sunday that the new security is working.

“This is the safest stadium in this country here in these past series, and it will continue to be so,” the chief said.

Bald head, goatee, tatoos on his neck. That just screams prison inmate.

I don’t know how people can stand by and watch and do nothing to stop it.

People are generally passive from early brainwashing watching Captain Kangaroo, Tele-tubbies, and Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood and being raised by Dr. Spock’s book.

Maybe it was all a plan to prepare kids for indoctrination into the liberal mindset and control by the puppet masters.

We don’t even know if the victim Bryan Stow will even survive yet or will suffer permanent brain damage. It shouldn’t at all be surprising to hear about these animals doing what animals do. These people are not human. And it seems almost contagious. I mean how about the recent McDonalds’ episode in Baltimore? The same type of brutality. Listen, each of these defendants, if found guilty of putting even a single hand on the victim, should face a very stiff prison sentence, If I were the sentencing judge and they were found guilty there is no way I would give them anything less than the maximum sentence. Curiously, I wonder if there was a difference in race between attackers and victim as in Baltimore.
In 1971, my friends and I went to a World Series game in Baltimore between the Orioles and the Pirates with their memorialized Roberto Clemente. He was the best I had ever seen. Growing up in Baltimore and following the “Birds”during their glory days of ‘66, ‘69, ‘70, ‘71, ‘79, and ‘83, I was an Oriole fanatic. At Memorial Stadium there were a whole row of Pirate fans in the seats right behind us. Sure, we joked and laughed at each other’s team, rubbing it in a little every time someone scored or made an error, but that was as far as it went. No profanities, no insults, just good-natured kidding and joking around. The Pirates went on to win, which made these Baltimore visitors very happy, and the Pirates did the same thing again to the Orioles in ‘79. Boo Hoo!

look the government and the left is the blame for the way people and kids are fighting and stealing people and the kids are rude and only care about themselves and what they want . the reason for this is you got government and all these left groups telling them you can do what you want express your self or you get judges just slapping them on the hand you got the government and the left talking about how they should have the same things that the rich have so now they just go and beat them up and take it. pr people go and steal it .i will bet that when this guy goes to court you will hear from the left about how he has anger problems and they will have him do anger management classes .that is what the court does all the time it is that or bipolar or adhd . you see the people use this kind of stuff when they get caught. the bottom line is they feel they have the right to do as they want they are being rasied and told by the left to think about just you everyone else doesn’t matter it is what you feel that matters. when ever people don’t get what they want when they want everyone around them will pay for it . the people do not have to account for anything and they just think everyone else owes them a living . so i have a feeling that in a few more years it is going to be a lot worse than it is now the people that have respect and work hard are going to end up getting robbed and worse

It’s about the loss of control that makes a violent criminal a violent criminal, and the extent we are willing to go to to remove them from society.. Well done LAPD.. Now go get the rest of them.. And if this guy is an illegal, waterboard him to get the names of his confederates.. Just kidding.. Can’t do that “in country.”

Imagine, ultraviolence like this dished out based on solely on different colored sports jerseys. Men spinning around the earth, but there’s no earthly law and order. Likely, these two would stomped a stranger and given him the boot for little or no reason. This time it looks as if they did it for their team. Even rattlesnakes only strike out if threatened. This is atatvistic, killer ape stuff. Apocalypo at the ball park.

How do they know? The parole officer shortly after the incident had an appointment with the accused. He saw that the guy was a mirror image of the sketch of the suspects but also noticed the guy had some NEW neck tattoos which looked to be covering up his previous neck tattoos. The neck tattoo was the one thing readily identified from the incident. The parole officer even brought him back a second time to take a closer look. The parole officer & LAPD showed the eye witnesses a police lineup and every eye witness identified the guy in custody as the assailant.

Eye Witnesses identify via Police Lineup – check
Neck Tattoos identified from the scene of the crime – check
This guy was arrested twice for robbery & once for discharging a firearm in public. He has served time in prison and is the lowest degenerate filth and here you are defending him. You spoke with emotion instead of conducting research and speaking with logic and facts. You are in no position to lecture anyone.
