LA Times Slams National Geographic‘s ’Border Wars’

“Border Wars” began its new season recently on National Geographic and already the critics are divided. The reality show has been described as “a somber series about the battle at the Mexican border.” The Los Angeles Times review hit pretty hard:
Accidentally or not, “Border Wars” plays like advocacy work masking as law enforcement propaganda. First there is the imbalance in scale between the officers and their targets. The show highlights not only the organization required to track illegal activity, but also the depth and organization of the illegal systems themselves.
The New York Daily News much have been watching a different episode:
The human issue is the focus here, and the producers of “Border Wars” don‘t try to editorialize on the larger question of who’s right and wrong and in what ways. The only certainty is that the game will go on.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 3:23pmIt seems to me money is the big problem. If they could not get a job and could not get hand-outs once they got here what would be the purpose of coming? Stop legalizing their new-born children and giving them free housing, medical, etc. Has anyone thought about electric fencing along the border? It worked in Jurassic Park….:<(

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 3:19pmThe liberals want all of us to be blindly led. This show exposes the truth. Our news channels should be reporting it. We can handle the truth and this show proves that Arizona is right. There is a war that needs to fought on our own borders.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 2:42pmI lived in Texas for 41 years, and I watch the show on the Nat.Geo. channel. What I see on the TV during the show episodes is pretty much what I saw living in Texas. The illegal alien problem is totally out of control, as is the smuggling of drugs into the US. As I watch the show and hear the locations, I say to myself, I’ve been on that highway, I’ve been in that town, I’ve hunted in that area, I’ve seen too much of this stuff live!! I’m sorry that the illegals have no future in their native countries, but that does not give them the right to enter the US illegally. The border has to be sealed!! The LA Times is so out of touch that all it’s good for is a liner for the bottom of a bird cage! Bird droppings are what it deserves!!

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 2:40pmI don’t understand – I was assured by this administration that the border is the safest it has ever been, that there are more resources than ever deployed along the border, and that this is all a false argument drummed up by the right to score cheap political points…
I’d love to compare the L.A. Times review of COPS to BORDER WARS – the issue is that it is so unfair, because we use high-tech tools to try and gain the upper hand against those crossing the border illegally?

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 2:09pmIf we had another 9/11 say Liberty Hall, the Empire State building, and The Lincoln Memorial that involve North Koreans, Tailiban, Muslim extreamist, and Cuban liberation forces, The L.A. Times would claim it was freedom of speech. They would also add that the act was justified and say it was inevatable.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 2:07pmAs someone who lives less than 20 miles north of the border in Arizona, I can assure you that the series accurately portrays the situation down here. The men and women of the border patrol bend over backward to be respectful and compassionate to people intent on breaking our immigration laws. God bless them — they are our last line of defense and do a terrific job working with one hand tied behind their back.

Of course there is no question of who’s right or wrong. People iwho came to this country illeagally do not belong here. There is no question, no mitigating circumstances no special situations. they should be expelled. why is this sucha gray area for so much debate?
People confuse the issue with legal imigrants and illeagle aliens. if people want to come her and be a productive American then by God we should welome them with open arms. but illeagles who come her have babies and drain our social services should be sent packing, not just Mexicans either.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 1:26pmI watched last season and saw what I think was this seasons first show. MY OPINION is that NatGeo has done a pretty good job as simply portraying what is going on. I don’t see them working for any political point of view. In fact, they often show illegals being asked questions by the agents who capture them. The Border Patrol seems to treat them with respect (on camera at least) and with a great deal of humanity. I also have a friend who works for the Border Patrol and he tells me about a lot more hardships they face that aren’t depicted in this series.
My point is that this series APPEARS to simply tell the truth. I know this is crazy in todays world and that the media can’t grasp the concept of truth, but I find it refreshing. Ultimately these are guys just working to uphold the law. I didn’t realize that was a bad thing.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 1:20pmNow, now. Illegal or not, they are still human. I believe that illegal immigration is illegal and those who are caught should be returned to their country of origin at that country’s expense. However, I am VERY pro-legal immigration and support those men and women for their patience as they see the government attempt to push them to the rear of the line over those who slunk in during the darkness.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 1:25pmEXACTLY!! that was what Glenn spoke about!! Restore Honor and talk about the issues at hand. GOD gives US OUR RIGHTS and THAT FACT should be the focus of the arguement. NO NANNY STATE!!! I hate–excuse me, Lord–that my Generation is so BABIED into believing that we can get things w/out working for it. It’s disgusting, and that’s what Liberals want out of Illegals: Get them into the system and prevent them from inccuring REAL, EQUAL Success.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 1:08pmThe Arizona issue is just one more prime example of the INTENTIONAL DECEPTION that America’s propaganda-driven government has become adept at. The TRUTH is that as early as 1991 the leaders of our country have been SECRETLY scheming to ELIMINATE THE BORDERS COMPLETELY between the United States, Mexico and Canada. The “North American Free Trade Agreement” (NAFTA) has been promoted since that time with the eventual outcome being the DISSOLUTION of the sovereign nations and the formation of the “North American Union” in their place. Americans see the “border war” as something relatively new when the fact is that the dissolution of our borders has been in progress for MANY YEARS. The “North American Union” will co-exist with nine other multinational “unions” which will eventually combine to form the “New World Order” – whether we like it or not….

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 1:05pmTo all liberals out there; illegal immigration is a crime, you need to accept that. Law enforcement is good, they stop crimes, and they’re just for doing that. We should be honoring them for a job well done, not chastising them for doing their job. “Illegal immigration” is not a race, it’s a crime.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 11:46amI NEED to disagree with NEZ and say that yes, the Illegals are Illegals, but I will lean a smidgen Left and say they aren’t all Criminals. We have our own scars of “stealing” (or Manifest Destin…ally winning this part of Former Mexican territory—However, they have no right to say that we “Stole” the land, but rather that THEIR Government signed over that land to us, just like CA is now doing the same…). To allude more towards the continuation of Restoring Honor, we must look at the Individuals within the Illegal Community, tell those who REALLY want to help the Illegals on the Left to get off their drugs which keep the Cartels thriving thus keeping Regular Mexican Citizens as Slaves to the Cartels!!! As Beck has explained we aught to teach them English and teach them what our Constitution truely MEANS!!! However, I‘m sure most of them don’t even LIKE America! as one former friend of mine once said he “[hated]” America.

An not have a one sided compation for people breaking the law, and causeing serouse issues here in America, to the point of collasping the coutnry. There are many things wrong with this country. An it started over 100 years ago. We heave to take this Country Back from the Corporations & Unions, that’re secretly running the country, and it’s policies.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 3:25pmLook up a little known community in S. Calif. called Santa Ana. There are more people per household in this city than New York and they are, to the most part, Hispanic illegals. No one speaks english, gangs rule the streets, all signs are in spanish, and you can have a coyote drop you off at your house for $150 after visiting Tijuana. It is a city that no one wants to deal with. If they can make it over the border and 100 miles to Santa Ana they are home free.
