Lack of Vetting Dooms Attack Ad in NM Governor’s Race

Sometimes it only takes 30 seconds to render a lot of expensive TV production effort totally worthless.
This come to us from the New Mexico governor’s race. The Republican frontrunner is Susana Martinez. She‘s facing Bill Richardson’s Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish.
Without giving away the punchline here, the NEA launched the original salvo on behalf of Denish. It didn’t work out very well:
H/T: Hot Air
Thus far the Denish campaign has not commented on whether or not they had approved of the NEA ad ahead of time.
The race is close — but Martinez has a slight lead. As Ed Morrisey says, “Don’t be surprised to see that trend accelerate a bit after this round of dueling attack ads.”

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 4:44pmGood job NEA. An attack ad that turns the gun on your own candidate. Keep up the good work.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 3:52pmThis is exactly why we need MORE negative campaigning! They always criticize candidates for negative campaigning, but it’s the only way we find out things like this. What good is a “positive” campaign? Anyone can say things to build themselves up. What we need to know is why we SHOULDN’T vote for a particular candidate.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 1:24pmI can’t believe it! This is such a High School Harry Political blunder! Political campaign rule number 1: If your campaign workers/supporters have big hairy skeletons in their closets, hide those folks away from the public and make sure they do nothing more than stuff envelopes in the campaign office at 2AM or tacking up yard signs or the like. Also, ban them from opening their mouths in public on pain of making them eat piping hot chili peppers.
Democrats are falling to pieces.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 1:15pmWow, for a group that is supposed to promote education, one would have thought they would ahve educated themselves prior to putting the ad together. I guess this is where you thank the Unions for being the sluggard’s that they are.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 1:10pmJust proves that we must know who these candidates really are and what they truly stand for and not rely on lobbyist organizations to feed us the truth.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 12:59pmRottweiler, Martinez is saying that the teacher in the ad has a husband who is a convicted felon, not Diane Denish. I like Martinez, but in the debate the other day, she said she was for MORE mandatory testing in the schools. That didn’t go over so well here. If you add up all the days students in our school district are taking mandatory standardized tests, it is over 1 month. Ridiculous! Put the students doing some hands-on projects, reading some good books.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 5:31pmBetter then letting the teachers spend that month indocrinating our children. I would prefer a manditory curriculum that excludes global warming for the 5th grade that my child is currently subjected to this week.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 12:37pmAre you kidding? Could New Mexico’s Lt. Gov. be married to a fellon? Kidnapping? Where I’m shure there is more to the story, I can just imagine the Dean-like scream that would issue from all the usual suspects if the situation were to be reversed.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 1:23pmSusana Martinez has been the District Attorney for Dona Ana County in New Mexico. This county neighbors El Paso County, TX. As District Attorney, she has put away many criminals behind bars. This teacher’s husband was one of them.
