Liberal Bloggers Link Palin Aide to Soros

In one of the more amusing attempts to discredit Glenn Beck’s week-long expose on billionaire George Soros’ unparalleled influence in global politics, Salon’s Justin Elliott reports that one of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin‘s aides is actually on Soros’ payroll. Scandal!
Uh, not quite.
Elliott writes:
Given Soros’ alleged role plotting to destroy the United States, Beck and his Fox viewership might be surprised to learn that one of Sarah Palin‘s top aides has been on Soros’ payroll for years.
That would be Republican lobbyist Randy Scheunemann, Palin’s foreign policy adviser and a member of her small inner circle. He runs a Washington, D.C., consulting firm called Orion Strategies. Scheunemann and a partner have since 2003 been paid over $150,000 by one of Soros’ organizations for lobbying work, according to federal disclosure forms reviewed by Salon. The lobbying, which has continued to the present, centers on legislation involving sanctions and democracy promotion in Burma.
According to their website, Orion Strategies performs a number of functions, including public relations, political consulting and even advertising. Needless to say, it’s a firm with a broad portfolio.
We advise and consult a variety of businesses (law firms, financial companies, services), organizations (professional organizations, lobbying groups and labor unions), political campaigns and public relation projects. Our political experience includes statewide, congressional, legislative, judicial and county races.
According to Elliot, one of the firm‘s clients is Soros’ Open Society Policy Center, an organization that “encourages Congress and the Administration to press the military dictatorship in Burma to restore political rights and democracy.”
In the course of Beck’s three-day look at Soros’ network of organizations and his links to Democratic politicians, the fact that a top aide to a likely GOP presidential candidate has been retained by a Soros outfit did not come up.
Palin has not commented on the Salon report, nor do I expect her to. The fact that one individual obviously knowledgeable on international politics advised the one-time vice presidential contender is moot and extending this individual connection and extrapolating a wider relationship between Scheunemann‘s entire firm and Soros’ global business empire is a stretch, to say the very least. A further stretch is a conjectured connection between all of this and Beck’s thorough assessment of the controversial billionaire.
After an entire week of reporting the questionable agenda and unchallenged facts presented in Beck’s look at the “puppet master,” is this seriously the best, er, refutation (?) the left can come up with? Fighting facts with sheer (unrelated) speculation?
So, what does this report — touted in the lefty blogosphere today — actually mean? Literally, nothing.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 9:06pmIf Soros can control NPR for a paltry $1.8 million it seems perfectly reasonable he can puppet master the Palin camp through payments to Scheunemann’s organization. That’s how this works, right? Sort of like the old rules of segregation. One drop of black blood and all that.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 8:51pmI guess I just see this differently. It’s not so much as to a “gotcha” Palin association as it is Soros reaching into every facet of politics in order to drive his agenda. His long reach extends into everything to do with US and world policy making, including influencing the right as well as the left. His, under the radar/covert actions are a danger to our republic. Thank God for people like Beck that will stand up and expose his agenda.

The polititans are running scared because they know she connects to America and they realize she will prevail if they dont do a trash campaigne on her. They think we are to dumb to know what good for us. We will show them the house cleaning only has just begun. 2012 will take out the rest of the trash. I had a few bumper stickers made at makestickers.com that say Palin/Bachmann ‘12. I can’t believe how many thumbs up I get, even in patheticaly liberal western Washington.

Posted on November 13, 2010 at 10:53amSoros hired the organization this aide to Palin works for, at an average of $20K/yr since 2003.
There is no indication that Palin‘s aide ever worked directly on any project funded by Soro’s $20K/yr worth of projects.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 8:26pmLogically, what this attempt to discredit both Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin by linking George Soros to them, in effect confirms what Beck is claiming, that Soros is bad news for America. Just what to thank Justin Elliott at Salon for apparently not realizing what he was doing. Of course the intellect at Salon has never quite made it to the top floor. If Elliott believes that it is a negative to be connected to the likes of Soros, and he attempts to connect a Palin worker to Soros as a negative for her, then Soros is a negative for America by his own definition. Thanks for proving Glenn’s point about Soros.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 8:22pmWhere I agree with you it was a very long stretch for the leftists to come back with Randy Scheunemann, it does point to a need for us to be ever vigilant to whom we associate ourselves with. As a conservitive christian GODs word says avoid any question of impropriety, correct? That being said I fully realize thats alot harder to do in “real time” than to say it. For instance Soros‘s connection to Progressive Insurance means I don’t get my insurance from them, and often wonder why FOX accepts there advertising dollars, guess like almost everything money talks. Whenever possible the canidates should openly seek out all conflicts of interest, as well as quesyionable “connections” of aids, seeking to remove all stumbling blocks from before them.

Posted on November 13, 2010 at 7:52amIt would be nice if we could isolate ourselves from the slime in this world. Unfortunately, the only way we can do that is to isolate ourselves from society altogether and go live in some secluded compound with no outside communication or contact. If you choose to live in this world, you have to deal with all of the elements of it. Even Glenn Beck said he has liberals working for him. I don’t know how he stands it;/ And how can he ever trust them?

Posted on November 13, 2010 at 10:55amWhat? $150K in payments from a Soros organization to a large DC lobbying, advertising, and consulting firm over the last 8 years (2003 -> present) indicates the aid to Sarah Palin is “owned” by Soros?
That comes out to around $20K/yr – with that $20K/yr Soros has control/influence over every employee there?
If Soros spends $20K/yr on BP fuel for his jet, does that mean everyone at BP works for Soros?
I really would have thought George Soros could afford a better defense than this…
And, BTW, influence over a possible future candidate? That’s pretty “possibly future” damming, but not now…
