Laura Bush Explains Why GWB Skipped Ground Zero Event

DALLAS (AP) — Former President George W. Bush’s decision not to appear at ground zero with President Barack Obama after the death of Osama bin Laden is consistent with his desire to keep a low public profile, former first lady Laura Bush said Thursday.

Laura Bush Explains Why GWB Skipped Ground Zero Event

“He’s made the real decision not to enter into politics or the public eye,” Laura Bush told The Associated Press on Thursday.

Bush said she and her husband were out to dinner Sunday night when they received word that Obama wanted to speak with him. The former president went home to take the call informing him that U.S. military forces had killed Osama bin Laden in a raid of his compound in Pakistan, she said.

“We’re very, very proud of our military and our intelligence services. It was risky and it was dangerous for our members of the military,” she said at a Dallas elementary school after announcing grants from her foundation for school libraries.

The former president congratulated Obama and military and intelligence personnel in a statement Sunday night, calling bin Laden’s death “a victory for America.”

She said Bush feels that acting presidents alone should preside over such official ceremonies as the one held Thursday at ground zero. She told the AP that her husband declined an invitation to attend Thursday’s event in New York because “that’s for President Obama to do at this point.”

Earlier this week, George Bush’s spokesman, David Sherzer, said the former president appreciated the offer to attend the ground zero event but choses to remain out of the spotlight during his post-presidency.

George Bush was in power on Sept. 11, 2001, when agents from bin Laden’s al-Qaida network hijacked planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, killing nearly 3,000 people in the worst terrorist attack on American soil.

Bush sent U.S. forces against al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan in October 2001.

He famously appeared at ground zero days after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, using a bullhorn to tell those gathered: “I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon.”

Laura and George Bush moved to Dallas after he left office in 2009. Both released books last year and made several media appearances to promote them, but otherwise they have stayed largely out of the public eye. They do make appearances for events related to the George W. Institute, which has put on conferences this year including one on the nation’s economy and another on helping Afghan women achieve economic success.

The institute is part of the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which is being built on the campus of Southern Methodist University and is set to be completed in 2013.

George Bush has been a constant class act. It’s so funny that Bush had all the support in the world from the dems on going to war, but when times got tough…the dems ran like the dems from Wisconsin. It’s also telling how the deadliest month in afghanistan have been during Obamas presidency…but you’d never know that. FU Main Stream FKRS

Thats because Bush wanted nothing to do with Afghanistan or Bin Laden, he was too busy invading Iraq for no reason. He knows he deserves no credit and is being humble.

If a republican president killed Bin Laden, Hannity would already have a 2 hour special and be calling for a national holiday. Blazers would be beating their chests and having parades with red, white and blue banners and flags everywhere. Chants of USA USA USA would be heard far and wide. Instead, its like you are sorry that he is dead. When you‘re sorry to see the back of the dude that started it all just because you don’t like the guy who got him, you have been officially brainwashed

      RIGHT!
“Even if [Osama bin Laden] is caught tomorrow, it is five years too late. He has done more damage the longer he has been out there. But, in fact, the damage that he has done … is done. And even to capture him now I don’t think makes us any safer.”
      OOPS.. who said this then?
Nancy Pelosi, press conference, September 7, 2006

BUT she says THIS May 2..
“The death of Osama bin Laden marks the most significant development in our fight against al-Qaida. … I salute President Obama, his national security team, Director Panetta, our men and women in the intelligence community and military, and other nations who supported this effort for their leadership in achieving this major accomplishment. … The death of Osama bin Laden is historic”

Letting The Congress, the Senate and the Supreme Court stray so far from the edicts of the Constitution and the Bill of rights, ranks up there as well. Don’t get me started on the Baggers. All the those people is doing is, once again, making a bad name for America. “We don’t like things, so we‘re going to attach the word ’Socialist’ to everything he does and try and scare people to our cause.”

Prior to calling people stupid you would be wise to pick up a book or two. The pansy in the White House is reading directly from communist manifestos including Lenin’s final aha-class warfare. We get it because we are familiar with history repeating itself. In case you had not heard NAZI stands for national socialists, just what you want. Read up. The NAZI socialists and communists you admire killed millions and unless you are in Congress you may be on the hit list, after they confiscate your money and your car and your house so it can be shared with other families. Or you could start your own socialist state and invite others to move in with you now, and share gasoline expenses on the way to work if you still have a job. How’s that hopey changey working out?

We are furious because this communist organizer did everything he could to stop George Bush along with the 70+ registered socialists in Congress. When it is time for the win he is embarassed and doesn’t want a victory paid for by U.S. tax dollars(not his personal stash). We get it. We know who the heroes are and who the wimps are. He has insulted every American and that matters. Want to see your socialist Obama future? READ a book: Atlas Shrugged. If socialism comes because business is gone, who will pay taxes for entitlements? You ?

As I think More about this,I think Obama is displaying classic symptoms of a boy raised without a father. He doesn’t know how to be a man! He is a product of the “high self esteem” generation. When you get your self esteem from people telling you how wonderful you are, rather than from your accomplishments, you feel the need to grab all the adulation you can get. A man can feel good about a job well done, in spite of who gets the credit. Lots of men toil daily ,doing the right thing with their family, without getting a medal for it. Their satisfaction comes from having done the right thing. Other men like them recognize their sacrifice. There is a cameraderie amongst men like that. They can laugh among themselves over their failings. Obama has never experienced that . He has no idea how pathetic and childish he looks to real men. We warn our sons against being like him!
A decent father would have taught him not to take credit for things other people have done, and to give credit to others, for what they have done .He would also taught him not to brag. Deep down Obama is wondering why his father abandoned him.

He will not do anything to help Obama, since it was all his fault, let BHO stand alone. By the way, Obama can pat himself on the back without any help. I think he can also orally release his second shakra by himself, Obama is very flexable, kink of like gumby.

Bush going to stand next to Obama would be like a fire hydrant standing next to the dog that’s been peeing on him for the last 2 1/2 years.

The offer to come to ground zero was certainly gracious considering Bush‘s public comments in 2002 about his attitude toward Bin Laden’s location, which of course he proved with the strategic blunder in Tora Bora…in light of this Bush was wise remain hidden.

To make the point finer: Comparing the intellect, presence, wisdom, grace, gravitas, prestige, ability, sophistication, judgment and knowledge between these two presidents is so stark I’m embarrassed all over again every time these clips of Bush are foisted upon me; particularly when I see Bush slumped over a podium jabbering like an alcoholic car salesman trying (and failing) to complete a coherent sentence, let alone a coherent policy. I suspect an inferiority complex is much more at play here than Bush’s “class.” And no I’m not trying to convince you of this….your children and grandchildren (and their spouses) will be talking about this difference among themselves for years to come while they are pulling away from your house or (nursing home) at Christmas. Your instincts to spin Bush bull into Bush gold will be in a pathetic class by itself in the long view of history….trumping support for Wallace, Douglas & Hoover in its idiocy. Sorry folks, but those are the facts….as you, your offspring, and the history books will illustrate…..and no I’m not trying to be insulting; I love plenty of foolish republicans, I just lose patience for your willful blindness periodically and need to vent so I don’t exp

George W. Bush shows the difference between a REAL gentleman and one who only wishes he were. He has shown great humility and is a model for former Presidents as far as I am concerned. I only wish that Jimmy (wimpy) Carter, would take the same path…that senile old fart is an embarassment to himself and to this country…he needs to stay home in Georgia, and let the big dogs bark.

Obama overcame the odds to be president. Bush was an alcoholic til his 40‘s and then had daddy’s help. what a joke. white boy with a silver spoon in his mouth.

It is true that Obama just completed what Bush set place to happen. Obama just followed through and nothing more. Obama is not a leader, I think he knew that we the people would have sought to bring him up on treason charges if he would have done anything else but sign the order to kill Osama Bin Laden. We would have found out and we would have a real uprising against him and his administration. I don’t give much credit to Obama for signing the order to kill OBL. I give the credit to all the people who remained fatihful to their duty and orders given to them by Bush. Obama just happened to be in the White House when it came about. Thank God for all those who made this possible and excuted the mission, and I do thank Obama for signing on to the plan, but I believe that he knew he didn‘t have much of a chance if he didn’t. Now lets see what happens with the debt limit and the Budget for 2012. Maybe he will learn, I doubt it he comes from Chicago, IL.

Poor BHO. Things are not going according to his personal admiration expectations. He was sure that by now anyone and everyone would see him for the great man he is, and fight to stand next to him. Yet he also knows very well (and is even proud) that his game is based on “lie, cheat, and steal.”

What heroic inner conflict! I wonder how he is going to make us suffer for it?

It is petty, but I hate the “Miss Me Yet?” picture. Honestly, no I don’t miss you. Other than what you did to go after the Taliban for harboring terrorists and going after Saddam for violation of the cease fire agreement, you did not do anything to really help the country. Massive spending and government programs when you could have cut spending since the Republicans controlled the house and senate (I won’t say conservatives because they were not), creation of the TSA and Homeland Security. No, Mr. President, you did two things right and even then you faltered in the running of the wars and let them bog down when decisive (and probably unpopular) action was needed to let the terrorist dogs understand we mean business. Though doing those two things right is not a pass on everything else that you left messed up.
