Lawmakers on Both Sides of the Aisle Call Iranian Plot an ‘Act of War’

Some U.S. Lawmakers Call Iranian Plot an Act of WarThe foiled terror plot allegedly orchestrated by Iran to assassinate Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the U. S., as well as plans to bomb the Saudi Arabian and Israeli embassies in Washington D.C. are being construed by many as an act of war against the United States.

Former National Security Advisor and Fox News analyst, KT McFarland, weighed in on the subject earlier today:

“This takes it to a whole new level of Iranian aggressiveness… [The U.S.] “will presumably ramp up efforts on sanctions, but technically you can construe this as an act of war,” said McFarland in an interview on Fox News Tuesday.
Fox News Chanel’s Judge Andrew Napolitano also weighed in, indicating that: “Under the present state of law, if this was an act of war [Manssor Arbabsiar] would’ve been brought to Guantanamo Bay and charged before a military tribunal.”  As it stands, however, “the American is in jail here in New York City.  Safe from where he can’t produce any harm,” said Napolitano.

Meanwhile, U.S. lawmakers, in an unusual display of unity from both sides of the isle, cited the plot as a cause for serious action against Iran.

Senator Mark Kirk, R-Ill., in an interview on Chicago’s WLS Radio, declared the plot an “act of war” andSome U.S. Lawmakers Call Iranian Plot an Act of Warurged the administration to revisit a request by dozens of senators to target the country’s central bank, calling it the “paymasters” for the Quds Force, a special unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

When asked how the U.S. would collapse Iran’s central bank, Kirk said, “You cut them off from the central reserve system and the Bank for International Settlements, the backbone of international finance.  At that point, the Iranian currency becomes almost unmanageable.”

Kirk added that “all but eight senators signed a letter behind this.  And with evidence now of a plot to blow up targets in Washington, D.C., by the government of Iran, it’s pretty much time to go ahead and take this action.”

Of course, the plot “is not a trip wire for military action in Iran,” said an unnamed senior Defense official told Fox News.  Nor should anyone “read into this as a pretense for any type of military response,” said another senior Defense official also speaking on condition of anonymity.  According to these officials, The Pentagon sees the alleged plot as a criminal act that is correctly being handled by the Department of Justice.

Iran denied U.S. allegations of the plot at the United Nations, however, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the Associated Press Tuesday that the claims are “well-founded,” and that the U.S. would work with its allies to “send a very strong message that this kind of action, which violates international norms, must be ended.”

Given the Obama Administration’s tendency to pursue criminal prosecution of terrorists rather than engage the use of military tribunals in the war on terror, it is doubtful the thwarted plot would produce any serious military action against Iran.

      I’m certain that our Head Muslim will deal harshly with Iran. Maybe we could cede them the eastern coast of America so they will think better of us? Or, perhaps, we should just surrender so they could correct our weird thinking with Sharia law.
      Trust me, he might do the above, but actually do something violent, get serious!

      Remember that there are Christians in Iran. I have met a young lady who got out of there, and her faith brought me to tears. Also remember, the young man there with his family who is being persecuted and could possibly be murdered because he is standing up agaisnt Sharia Law and Islam being forced down the throats of the Christian school children. Now we just killed a Saudi in Pakistan without there permission and we killed an American in Yemen without there permission. What is the difference?

      tallguyjgg: Are you inerested in have a reasonable debate? If so let’s begin at say the start of the 20th century perhaps at the end of WW1. What was the US Britian France and Germany doing in the ME at that time? Were they exploiting their land? How many dicators has the US alone chosen for the ME? What about Sadaam? Didn’t the US arm him to the teeth? The Shaw of Iran? Mubarrack?

      What would you think about the Saudi’s choosing the US President and he had to be Muslim? This should get the ball rolling and it may help you to understand their position a little more clearly.

      Then following WW2 the creation of a Jewish state in their midst. How would you feel about a Chinese state in the place of where Iowa use to be? Would you be happy about that? What if the Russians began arming the Chinese in the former state of Iowa and the Chinese begain slaughtering Americans by the scores from Iowa with the help of Russia’s weapons and finances?

      Applehead: The truth of the matter is that it is overwhelmingly Protestants that are on this Jew worship trip. They are by far the more uneducated and uninformed. Unfortunately many of the Evangelical leaders are telling them that the physical Jews are still God’s chosen people and most do have enough intelligence to open their Bibles and read the New Testament for themselves so they believe the lies.

      I have this book written by a Catholic author and minister named Michael Jones I believe is his name. he goes back like 3000 years detaling the Jews invovlement in various societies and the Church’s response. I can’t wait to read it but during football season I seem to get in very little reading.

      Techengineer. The Palestinians were offered a two state solution at the same time that Israel, Jordan and Syria came into being. They turned it down (unalterably opposed to the existence of Israel) and the Muslims told those residing in the new Israel to get out because they were going to go to war with lsrael to destroy it. To this day, it is the Palestinians shooting rocket, mortar rounds etc. into Israel, not the other way around. Top leadership of the Palestinians are on tape declaring that when they get statehood their goal is to destroy Israel, not coexist, and to keep this little tidbit away from the West, because its not PC. Why do you think Israel should not have the right to defend herself? Those Palestinians now residing in Israel have a much better life than those residing in Gaza and the West Bank. All that Muslims have control over turns to dust and destruction, killing is all they know how to do, and those who are educated, just want to develop more refined ways to kill the Jews and next the Christians and other infidels. Compare, for a moment, all of the medical, technological, and musical talent that the Jews have shared with the world with what the Muslims have shared or want to share. I am not a Jew but for me it is no contest. If you had a choice between a world without Jews or a world without Muslims, which would you choose, unless of course you are a Muslim, because that’s the choice they want to make for the entire world.

      You seem to have all the talking points down. I can’t say I disagree too much with what you are saying but once again you start after the US and England unilaterally declared a Jewish state. I’m sure the Arabs living there at the time of that delcaration and the ones that lost their land and or loved ones will ever be persuaded to accept a Jewish state. I’d probably feel the same way if I were them. I simply do not want anything to do with that situation.

      scout n ambush… Near the beginning of Desert Storm there was a story on tv news, showed satellite images of Russian Special Forces, transferring weapons from a suspected Iraqi wmd storage facility to Syria by truck. I watched it play on tv. The story was removed after about two hours and scrubbed from existence. Cant even find it on the internet, but I saw it on tv.

      @EJbonk — this is the rage that Obama wants and needs to have happen; to declare a state of national emergency and crack down across the board. Look for him in the next few days to make a speech about suddenly how dangerous Iran is (true) and the need to invade or such…most likely he will go to the UN and politely ask for an apology from Iran.

      Unfortunatly, as bad as his poll numbers are, and the timing in it appearing the same day as the subpoena for Holder on “fast and furious” makes me more than a little alarmed and concerned that this was allowed to go so far for the purpose of Obamas re-election political posturing.

      I will say this much though, people like the President of Iran only understand one kind of deterence which is this — the FEAR of the APPLICATION of FORCE…

      In short, no EMP, locate exactly where he is and dump a 2-megaton directly on his head.

      Let him go meet God in the ultimate fireball of manmade hades.

      Unfortunate on the chain of events that led here. Yes another war is probably likely. And trying avoid such is likely the reason Obomba is handling this case through the justice dept. Nevertheless, Iran has been and will be the ultimate destiny of the war on terrorism. If Bush didnt blunder into Iraq, but instead finished off Afghanistan, you can bet your bacon that Iran would have been next. Assuming the original Bush Doctrine was upheld, due to support of terrorism.

      After over 10 years of war, the public is tired of it. Iran is taking advantage of the situation. Essentially Iran has free reign to plot all they want. Until there is a successful large-scale 911 style attack, we probably wont do anything. Indeed if this plot had been successful there would be another war. This one will be bigger than any we have seen in a long long time. Iran seems like Germany in the 1930′s.

    Are we really calling for another war? We will be making payments on the last ones for decades. Iraq had no WMDs, Khadaffi was no threat, we are guarding poppy fields in Afghanistan and supporting a government based on sharia law and persecuting Christians.

    How many millions of people are going to die to protect the free flow of oil to Europe and Asia? That’s right, we import most of our oil from Mexico and Canada.

    We have oil in our country we won’t drill for to protect an insect, but we will send our children to war so they die for oil. If the Middle East did not have oil, we would not be there.

    I say we sacrifice endangered insects and plants before we sacrifice our children.

    When they have that big parade in Tehran with all the rockets and elite troops goose stepping down the boulevard, and Ahmedinijad and the Supreme Mullahs are all sitting in the stands….That’s when a hailstorm of cruise missiles, bunker busters, and low yield nukes should hit that intersection.       I’m tired of hearing about the innocent people in Arab countries being oppressed by their political ideology masquerading as a religion. What about our innocent civilians who felt the wrath of Islam on 9/11. and we still live under it’s shadow today.

    Iran declared war on us when they invaded our embassy in 1979. Our embassy is our sovereign territory. We did nothing then, and they figure w/Carter II in the White House, we will do nothing now. A technical state of war has existed betw the USA and IRI for 30+ years. They hit us in 1983 in Beirut, killing Marines via their proxy Hezbollah. They got no response then either.

    Al Qaeda declared war on us in 1996 when they attack the WTC the first time. Failing to bring down the tower then, they tried again in 2001.

    Anybody home? Islam is the enemy. It’s the same kind of enemy that the Nazis were and the Marxists are. It’s an ideological enemy that involves human beings in how it carries out it demonic plans to destroy what is good in this world. You destroy an ideology not by killing people, but by converting them to a better ideology.

    To Christians and Jews — pray that our gracious God will convert the muslims out of their demonic mindset. God hears our prayers. Abraham and Moses successfully argued w/Him over Lot and over Israel in the wilderness. Prayer and fasting is the key to this battle, which belongs to the Holy One of Israel.
