Lawrence O’Donnell Loses it With Alan Grayson Over Tax Compromise

Suffice it to say that there is a large rift developing on the left over President Obama’s tax rate compromise with Republicans. Take Wednesday night for example, when self-professed socialist Lawrence O’Donnell became enraged with outgoing Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) over the congressman’s threat to kill the tax extensions in the House.
In short, O’Donnell beleives that Democrats should take the compromise because even though it benefits the “rich,” it also benefits the poor. Grayson, disagrees. They both duke it out, with O’Donnell getting so angry at one point that he resorts to calling Grayson a “dolt” and reminding the Rep. that he will be out of a job come January.
But don’t worry, O‘Donnell isn’t having a sudden conservative moment. He still makes his contempt for Republicans very clear — he just also makes his contempt for Grayson quite obvious:

Pres was all to eager to join the Repub wagon of No Tax increase, all the while his base screams and rants and stirs the bottom to lash out. I am not convince yet that his thing will pass, but sounds like a rope a dope to me. The Dems that are on their way out can take one more sword fall by “opposing” the Pres, all the while he is orchastrating their concert with their approval.

I really don‘t understand why O’Donnell dislikes Republicans so much – I’m just an everyday mother/grandmother trying to do what is best for my children and grandchildren. Maybe he likes strangers more than his family, maybe he doesn’t have a family. As for Grayson, his family probably should move away without a forwarding address while he is in D.C. so they won’t have to live with the stigma of being related to the “most embarrassing attraction in central FL”. I say give them some boxing gloves and put them on tv, that might be worth watching.

Larry makes an interesting point here without realizing it – the Democrats don’t really care about the poor, so much as they care about punishing the rich. If they cared about the poor, they‘d make sure their taxes didn’t increase, no matter what.
I actually think better of Larry having heard him say that. At least his is sticking to a principle of sorts that is more in line with America. I can can respect not raising taxes on the poor. He does genuinely seem concerned more about rates rising on people who cannot afford it, than wishing for rates to rise on those who can in order to redistribute wealth. These people do have genuine concern for the poor; they just fail to realize that you do not give a man a fish to help him.

That George Bush’s 33 1/3% tax rate cut for the lowest income level will turn into Nancy Pelosi/Harry Reid/Barack Obama’s 50% tax rate increase is just amazing. Can the left really want that to be the legacy of the 111th Congress? They can play word games all day long (they have for 4 years now), but at the end fo the day, if the GOP/POTUS compromise doesn’t happen, the Democrats have failed and anything the GOP enacts in January will be to the credit of the GOP, not the Democrats.
Letting this slip through their fingers now will hurt them in 2012 – their principled stand against tax cuts for every American sound nice, but don’t resonate with Joe Six-pack whose tax rate will go up while these folks make their point…

I agree. Ten percent of $10,000 is $1,000 and ten percent of $250,000 is $25,000. All that needs to be done is to strip out “tax credits” like interest paid on mortgages, exemptions for children (which would also discourage people from having children they can’t afford), and unreimbursed medical expenses.
There should be a “level” set where a person who earns less than a livable wage pays no tax at all.
