Leftist UK Politician George Galloway Egged in Victory Parade

Many politicians have been described by their constituents as bad eggs – most aren’t pelted with bad eggs for that fact. But George Galloway, one of the more infamously left-wing former members of the United Kingdom’s Parliament, now newly reelected as part of the “Respect” party, endured just such a fate during a victory parade. One of Galloway’s detractors, Thomas Johnson of West Yorkshire, took an entire box of eggs and started pelting Galloway‘s parade before getting swarmed by a crowd of Galloway’s Arab supporters. Thomas Johnson, 26, of Bradford, West Yorkshire, called Galloway a “parasite” as he threw the eggs towards him.
“Why would any city want a politician that got kicked out of two constituencies? Who hasn’t got the common sense not to act like a submissive cat on television?” Johnson said.[...]
“Was he protesting? Against me? The man who got chosen by 56% of the people yesterday?” he said.
“I’ve only just been elected. Unless he was protesting against the democratic process of the election.”
Galloway, despite his Left-wing credentials, is not despised exclusively by UK conservatives. The late Christopher Hitchens debated Galloway at Baruch College, and savaged him for being corrupt and too willing to cozy up to Middle Eastern “theocrats.” Watch the full debate between the two below:

Posted on March 31, 2012 at 4:15amWell, at least Galloway’s one of only a handful of polititians with the guts to show vocal support for the the Palestinians, and that’s a plus in my book. Granted, he’s a bit of a loudmouth, but he stand’s by his principles, has more knowledge than most concerning the Israeli/Palestinian dilemma, and can evicerate anyone in a debate, which he does all the time.

That day has now been brought measurably closer by the publication of the report of the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. This report, which comes with a vast archive of supporting material, was embargoed until 10 p.m. Monday and contains the “smoking gun” evidence that Galloway, along with his wife and his chief business associate, were consistent profiteers from Saddam Hussein’s regime and its criminal exploitation of the “Oil for Food” program. In particular:
1) Between 1999 and 2003, Galloway personally solicited and received eight oil “allocations” totaling 23 million barrels, which went either to him or to a politicized “charity” of his named the Mariam Appeal.
2) In connection with just one of these allocations, Galloway’s wife, Amineh Abu-Zayyad, received about $150,000 directly.
3) A minimum of $446,000 was directed to the Mariam Appeal, which campaigned against the very sanctions from which it was secretly benefiting.
4) Through the connections established by the Galloway and “Mariam” allocations, the Saddam Hussein regime was enabled to reap $1,642,000 in kickbacks or “surcharge” payments.

I watched his debate with Galloway back in 2005. I was riveted once they got going. Watch the vid if you have the time, patience, and inclination. You will not be disappointed. And, you will learn a thing or three. Hitchens wasn’t a cause célèbre for left or right. He was his own man — and a genius. Gal
