‘Let’s Not Be America in Name Only’: Beck Rallies Tens of Thousands to ‘Make America Better’ by Restoring Love

Glenn Beck packed Dallas Cowboys stadium to the brim on Saturday, July 28, for his highly anticipated Restoring Love rally, where he called for a return to a culture of service to “make America better than it is today.”

Restoring Love, for Beck, is much more than a series of events, but rather the beginning of a movement dedicated to reclaiming the values that have slowly been slipping away from our society.

The evening’s festivities kicked off with one of the most powerful renditions of the Star Spangled Banner most have ever heard, performed by newly naturalized American citizen Alex Boye. He was accompanied by a choir and the moment brought Beck to tears.

The atmosphere was electric and the energy palpable as the audience then welcomed the man behind Restoring Love onto the stage with a rousing standing ovation.

He explained that Restoring Love is the conclusion of a trilogy that included Restoring Honor, which was held in Washington, D.C. in 2010 and Restoring Courage, held in Israel in 2011.

“To have honor, you must be true to God,” he said. “To have honor, you must have faith.”

Below, Beck introduces Restoring Love:

Beck said that “courage” is critical if a person seeks the truth and that love is not just about “hugs and kisses,” but about service and charity.

America is great because “Americans are good.”

Beck then introduced a special segment dedicated to prayer and people’s individual faith in God. Originally, it was intended that the Reverend Billy Graham would deliver the evening’s prayer, but since he could not be in attendance, Beck said the only other option is that the prayer “comes from you.”

The moving video below chronicles faith-keepers from all different walks of life, sharing why they pray and what they pray for, from guidance for our elected leaders to the healing of a loved one.

Because music is such a transformative force in our culture, the night was filled with performances by recording artists who each had a positive message of charity and love to share. The first musical interlude of the evening was delivered by Alaska-raised recording artist, Kalai, who performed his original song, “All Rise – Pray.” The lyrics spoke about praying for peace and rising again in the face of adversity.

Beck took to the stage after Kalai concluded to showcase the other important part of the evening — a review of our nation’s priceless artifacts – some of which came directly from our Founding Fathers. America’s “inheritance” included a Liberty Bell, a cannonball from Gettysburg, and a rare bible (there are only eight in existence) that was actually printed by Congress and given to men serving in the nation’s armed forces. Beck also showed off an extraordinary painting of George Washington kneeling in prayer in the snow at Valley Forge.

“George Washington was no ordinary man,” Beck noted before Kevin Kern performed his song, “America’s Song,” dedicated to the nation’s first president. The lyrics spoke of Washington leading the charge at Valley Forge, his faith in God, and his journey from the plow to the highest office in the land.

“We’re still looking for another one [Washington],” the lyrics rang.

“So often America is in need of somebody — a leader — as great as George Washington,” Beck said in response as he came back on stage and spoke about our nation’s triumphs and tribulations – from the end of slavery to the rise of Jim Crow. He ceded that we’ve never been a perfect nation but that we must study our failures to become better than we were before.

The hymn “Amazing Grace” echoed softly in the background as Beck then sat at Abraham Lincoln’s desk — yes, Honest Abe’s desk — and read an actual letter from our 16th president. Below is that chilling letter:

If A. can prove, however conclusively, that he may, of right, enslave B. — why may not B. snatch the same argument, and prove equally, that he may enslave A?–

 

You say A. is white, and B. is black. It is color, then; the lighter, having the right to enslave the darker? Take care. By this rule, you are to be slave to the first man you meet, with a fairer skin than your own.



You do not mean color exactly?–You mean the whites are intellectually the superiors of the blacks, and, therefore have the right to enslave them? Take care again. By this rule, you are to be slave to the first man you meet, with an intellect superior to your own.

“This kind of thinking set Lincoln apart,” Beck observed.

“In his day, it was revolutionary. Lincoln ‘sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat’… And freedom did come, ‘like the glory of the morning on the wave.’”

In the spirit of Lincoln, Kalai then performed “Battle Hymn.” The lyrics “glory, glory hallelujah” seemed fitting given the sentiment.

The night was full of so many poignant moments, history lessons, words of wisdom and inspirational music that it would be difficult to encapsulate in its entirety, but the core message of faith, service and a dedication to upholding liberty was clear for all in attendance. Beck explained that history is “an arc that bends in the direction of justice,“ but ”not on its own.”

“We bend it.”

“The Pilgrims said they would build a shining city on a hill,” he added. Perhaps that is why people from over 20 different countries came to Restoring Love — America is the standard by which other nations are judged, the beacon of hope for people of all walks, and from all over the world.

Continuing to weave in America‘s cultural and historic artifacts with the night’s program, Beck then showed the audience the actual helmet General Dwight D. Eisenhower wore on D-Day.

America, according to Beck, has its wounds that need time to heal, but “we have to move forward” and “return to basic truths.”

He explained that those truths include the simplest protest catch-phrase of all: “I am a man.”

Those words, to Beck, are “the first unspoken phrase of our Declaration of Independence.”

“I am a man …and “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Beck concluded the evening with what is being hailed his greatest, most impactful speech yet, charging everyone with a mission “to act, to commit, to shake the future.“ And there was a rousing moment where he declared we are experiencing the ”third Great Awakening”:

“Make America better than it is today,” Beck urged. “Every generation of America faces this challenge. Every generation. Some succeed. Some fail. Those who have failed, failed because they waited for someone else to act.”

    In order to understand the reason for Christ’s crucifixion, we must know the plan of salvation revealed from the Old Testament. Since the fall of mankind in the garden of Eden, every person has had a problem with sins they have committed. God, in contrast, is holy, which means He never has and never will commit any sin and will not stand in the presence of anyone who has sinned. In the Old Testament, God provided a means of eliminating sin through a blood sacrifice. Why did God choose to use a blood sacrifice? No one can say for certain, since none of us have the mind of God. However, I believe God wanted to make sure that we knew how costly sin is to Him.

    God stated very explicitly that the daily sacrifice for sin, performed by the priests, would be replaced through the establishment of a new covenant and foretold what He would do to satisfy His requirement for a blood sacrifice for sin. The sacrifice was to be done by His Servant, who is His Son, both man (descended from David) and eternal God simultaneously. Only a sacrifice by a holy God, who is Jesus Christ, could pay the penalty for our sin. His sacrifice would be costly and would require death by crucifixion, which would pay the penalty for our sin . Crucifixion is one of the most cruel and tortuous ways to die. When we think how Jesus died on the cross for us, it is to remind us of the cost of our sin, and God’s love for us, in His willingness to personally die for us so that we can commune with God.

      Sir, I am a Muslim and believer in Isa bin Meryam (Jesus son of Mary). However, we believe what Jesus believed Matt 5.17 “Think not that I have come to destroy the Law (of Moses), or the Prophets, I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil (the Law of Moses)”. We all know that in 10 Commandments “the God is One”, “Do not worship other gods for your God is a jealous God”. Obviously, Jesus cannot go against this rule that God is only One and that “there is no God but one God” that Islam believes. On this touchstone of the Ten Commandments Jesus was not God, he was not the only son of God as the NT also dub Adam as son of God (Luke 3.38). Peacekeepers are also sons of God Matt 5.9 “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God”. Since Jesus did not have an earthly father since he was born miraculously he may have adopted God as his father and Jesus is his symbolic son just as Adam and Peacemakers are his sons. In fact, in the NT, any righteous person is the son of God. Al-Qur’an says, Isa bin Meryam was nothing but a Messenger of God, Messengers like him had come and passed away before him, and in fact, there was one Messenger of God after him namely Muhammad (peace be upon him).

      Also, please carefully study the following NT Luke verses: Luke 18:18 “And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Teacher or Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 18:19 And Jesus said unto him, Why you called me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.“ From the response of Jesus it is clear that he was objecting to the word ”good” because this title belonged to and still belongs to the One God, the God of 10 Commandments, and the God (Allah) of Al-Islam.

      Also, from Luke chapter 24, verses 36 to 41, it clear that Jesus was alive AFTER crucifixion which is the Islamic position that he was not killed, he was not crucified, but it was made to appear to them so. It looked to the onlookers that he was crucified but in actual fact God Allah took him back alive.

      Luke chapter 24: verses 36 onward. Now these verses are AFTER the Crucifixion and clearly indicate that Jesus was alive after Crucifixion:

      36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

      37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

      40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence. Now compare this with 4:157-158 Qur’an: “Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah .” And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.
      4:158: Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

      All of our sins both in the pre-Christ…and after into the future…we can never know why God chose that type of death…but Abraham…sacraficed sheep & goats…God tested him…to murder his son Issac…He stopped his hand…we are all tested by God if we stand with Him we are doing Gods word…not work…then we listen to His word and then do His work…it has to be a part of us to do good…push Satan out…keep pushing our nation to be good…it is mans struggle…and womens too…

    I consider myself a nationalist first!

    But I have to question seriously if this vehicle is the way to get America back on track. Strong national values are what is key but the Left does not share these values and there is the impasse. A nationalistic approach to fixing this nation with the sordid condition of our morality is a disaster in the making. That will only come down to a mentality of you are either with us or against us and yet another divide is born. This nation needs to fully come to the place that God is the answer and the answer alone for what ailes us personally and as a nation. Get us to that place and the patient is cured as long as he/she abides in God.

    All of the MSM would need to admit this is the only thing that can save this nation. MSM and Hollywood would both have to agree to stop the assault on Americans minds and hearts through their programming and turn their collective approaches over to God….yes it sounds like a theocracy and thats a dirty word for most, but if I turn over my household and life to God then I am a mini theocracy which is apparantly working very well. The family under God is a theocracy and from that a nation is blessed.

    America WAS great because America WAS Good. We need to be good again to make that a present tense statement once again.

      Your post is one of the most Anti-American post I ever read. We are a secular nation. We succeed or fail, not because of some made up deity, but because people and communities succeed or fail. Your post echo the backward thinking of the Taliban or other theocracies. Religion and faith is a personal matter and has no place in the public arena. Keep your myths in behind church doors and to yourself. Religion, especially the conservative christians have done more to divide this nation than any otherthing.

      You have great values. I believe you are right. Don’t listen that troll Encinom. He is not a true American. He cannot speak to anyone about what an American would do. This country needs real leadership from a real man with values.
      In Ancient Israel, God asked, “I sort for a man. But I could not find one.” Shortly after that God allowed the destruction of Israel because the people went away from God and his values. He did not want to destroy them. But they would not listen. There was not one man that could save them. We need a man, a godly man to bring this country back to God.

      Nothing like the true Christian Conservatives to prove just how unameican they are. In the secular nation the founders created, theses Christians seek to destroy it and create a Taliban styled theocracy. Your God has no place outside of your Church. In a Nation of many religions no one belied or deity dominates, nor does should it influces the secular laws. You choose to live by Bronze Age myths, I do not. Keep your mythology to yourself.       America will be great again if she stops the policy of wars and occupation because war is anti-economy. The white middle class of the 60s was quite hard working but it appears that the white Middle Class Americans are lazy and do not like to work. When unemployment pays more than the employment which is the case in America now, when the goal is to make free money, and when retired Government employees are paid more than the active duty Government employees, you are up for great trouble. I think the Americans need to revisit their values which were based on fair play, hard work, and justice.

    Just got home from Arlington. Fabulous show! I was looking for numbers in this story. You exaggerated a great deal in saying that the stadium was packed. No seats were sold on the upper deck. There were a lot of open seats in the remainder of the stadium as well. I estimate that Cowboy Stadium was 60% to 70% filled. There is no need to guess, as was the case with the 9/12 rallies, because there is a count of tickets checked in at the gates.So, what is it?

      The stadium was sold out. Glenn did not sell tickets for the upper rows because the audio was very bad in those areas. The big mistake Glenn made at the beginning of the ticket sales was asking people to buy tickets to support the event even though they could not attend. My row had ten empty seats in a row, so I know this is what happened. Security at the gate early Saturday morning, at the time of Beck’s book signing, told me I couldn’t buy any tickets as they were sold out for the evening.

      Yo u are correct, Hiswill, that many of the tickets were not used and that it was a big mistake on Glenn’s part. That facgt does nt negate the facgt that the stadu-ium was far from filled. I still would like to see the numbers of thaose in attendance, becaise for us to say that Cowboy Stadium was filled is just as big a lie as was Farrakhan’s claim of a million man march!

      Thanks, HISWILL. The stadium has a seating capacity of 80,000, which means that there were 15,000 empty seats. However since the field was used for seating, there were a lot more than that. I estimate about 2,00 on the field, so I think that it is fair to say that there were about 17,000 empty seats. It was a large crowd, but does anyone care to compare that to the crowd up the street that night at the Rangers game?

      Just for fun, I will give the comparison. The Ballpark in Arlington has a seating capacity of 49,170. Attendance Friday night was 47, 163. Not as big a crowd as the 65,000 Saturday in Cowboys Stadium, but the Ballpak could rightfully be described as packed!

      Your quote of this verse is at the very crux of the issue I have with the way many Christians look to Glenn Beck as a Christian leader. How can you equate any man, other than Jesus Christ, as the Messiah? What’s more is that the light is not in Glenn Beck. Anyone who tries to reach the Father by way of his own works and does not accept the atoning work of Christ are dead in his sins and is in the dark.

      What you said saddens me and is a reminder of the way American Christianity is headed.

    I am not a religious person, but I would never disparage someone for having faith. I’ve noticed a familiar theme over the last year or so and that is the burst of atheism in this country. One thing I’ve noticed about so called atheists is alot of anger when talking of God or Faith. I don‘t believe that atheist don’t believe in God…….they are like the angry child, acting out of anger and rage, pretending not to believe, hoping to elicit some kind of acknowledgement from God. I honestly don’t know what to believe myself………I‘m sure I’ll find out someday. God Bless

      Watching Restoring Love brought back the impressive Spirit of Freedom and collective feeling of honor truth, and call for honest behavior I felt standing on the National Mall 8/28.
      We were all connected on 8/28. We found our HONOR

      Last night, we were once again connected to Honor through acts of Love.

      I am Honored to stand with my fellow Americans who believe a problem exists in our society today.
      The “Sleeping Giant” is waking from a two year nap.

    I watched the event and it was a simple, honest call for us to get back to what we were created for, the “shining city on the hill”. The biggest challenge we face is that we have to turn our eyes towards God and trust him to take care of our hearts and the hearts of those like these lost souls on this thread, who speak out against us. I hope we haven’t gone so far as to have lost this battle, because the battle that comes next, will put our nation at peril and the hands of our enemies will come up against us, from inside the country and outside.

      I fear that you may be correct. I don’t see how we get back to freedom without the spilling of blood. I pray that i am wrong. I believe our country is under judgement for her sins, Judgement is Gods mercy to awaken a people who have turned from him. Without true repentance there is no remission of sin. I believe the nation is split, Half want God and his goodness and the others are there own gods desiring to do what is good to them in the absence of God. I Pray this is the beginning of a new awakening as Glenn said. If not It will only get worse.

      I would have liked glenn on a little bit longer, I think it was too much singing but I did enjoy it. I quess I wanted some politics involved, to let people know whats going on in the world and with the president for people who are new to the glenn beck way of words, it would have been the last chance to get the word out about the agenda, since he is never going to give a speech like this again. All of this would have educated the new comers. Love you Glenn hope you do more speeches in the future.

      I think it’s hilarious for Christians to say they worship in the same God as the Jewish people do(a God they created) and then say they are wrong for not worshiping Jesus.

    The best lie is a half truth. Beck is a half truth. He’s a distraction. Claims to be a historian. Tells you what you want to hear, cries a little, gives you enough catharsis to swallow the pill and make you feel like ‘somebody is doing something’ – but they’re not. It’s all a con. Beck is a con, Limbaugh – con, Hannity? Ha! on down the line. Throughout history anyone who ever won their freedom and kept it for any length of time all fought tyranny the EXACT same way – Beck knows it – and it wasn’t holding hands, having a rally or talking to your kids about freedom at dinner. All of this is utter nonsense to keep the stupids placated. It’s over. You lost. Why? Because you ain’t got the guts to fight for it and the cowardly talking heads you watch on TV are there to keep you at bay. So keep on watching this crap and lying to yourselves. It’s all you got left besides WalMart, Taco Bell and the FEMA camp you’ll be calling home in 6 months.

This is why he NEVER mentions nullification. Third parties. Ron Paul. These represent FIGHTING! Instead, Beck’s objective is to stall you with activities THAT “restore” PHILOSOPHIES (THAT ARE NOT LACKING IN THE FIRST PLACE) instead of restoring Constitutional law, liberty, decentralized government, sovereignty, privacy and peace.       Wow I’ve seen this back and forth for a spell now. And honestly I am right down the middle on this one. To the Paul supporters, I seen what you seen. Even though I’ve been slowly reawakening my political views over the last several years now, for some reason I still naively approached this year’s race thinking it was Republican vs Democrat, or Conservatives vs Socialists. Of course I knew they each had their differences but still thought at the end of the day there wasn’t much separating them.

      But like I said I seen exactly the same things you guys often complain about. Hell at one debate they even asked all the candidates who among them was the most influential or something like that. And half of them said Paul. I seen a whole lot of candidates moving their lips to try to strum those chords with the masses. The wimpiest looking one of em was standing firm to his beliefs regardless of whether they were popular or not. He had a backbone. I really started liking the guy despite some of his wilder ideas, and I know what you mean about the media not giving an ounce of respect for him. Which should have told the rest of us Republicans something right there.

      And I also believe we’ve got the wrong candidate out of the bunch. I mean if you think back to 08 what was our biggest threat? A jacked up economy. And what did we get – 4 yrs of tireless effort on a health care system that nobody wants and put even more burden on it. Thanks media. What’s our biggest threat to

      What’s our biggest threat today? Still the economy and now an assault on our freedoms through socialism. If you peel back the layers enough, ta da there’s the f.ed. And only one man out of the entire group has made a career out of denouncing those thugs. Yet America missed it again, cause we really needed to see just how that would’ve went down. Thanks again media. But we have to quit crying over it. This is what we got, and we need to make lemonade out of it for now. If anything Mitt will hopefully slow things down for some of these rising patriots to take the reigns in 2016. Just remember it took these progressives over 100 years to pull off their stunt. Name calling, divided, etc. Can we just focus for a few more months on the one common objective here – showing BO the door. And for the rest of us on this side of the isle, do you really think putting Paul supporters on an island and calling them names is the best thing to accomplish this goal.       1. If you Romneybots would back us Paulbots, you would be more mature.
      2. We are not trying trying to split the vote, we are trying to get you on board with Beck and Paul.
      3. I am not under 35, I am 44, much like a lot of other Paul bots.
      4. Paul supporters are not obnoxious, we are passionate. I can say the same as you and say that Romney supporters are obnoxious because they are band wagon hoppers and kool-aid drinkers. They only started appearing 7 months ago while Ron Paul supporters stated backing over 7 years ago or more.

I firmly believe that putting the country back on course is NOT going to be a one-election “thing”. It took many years for the country to get into this mess and it won’t be undone in one election cycle. It will take many years of work to elect conservative men and women. I understand that Romney isn’t your “guy”. But face facts, it is going to be either Romney or Obama. Obama is a certain loss for the country as he takes down the road to communism.       Okay, you really have to explain how you can think this is true. It is my understanding, correct me if I am wrong, that political parties hold a series of primary elections to determine what candidate their members would prefer. As I recall, Mr. Romney won most of these elections, while Mr. Paul won only in the Virgin Islands. I am told that the majority of the delegates to the national convention chosen as a result of these elections are bound by the rules of their state party and/or the laws of their state to vote for the candidate they have pledged to represent even if they later change their minds. I see that even if every single delegate not so bound voted for Mr. Paul including those pledged to Mr. Santorum or Mr. Gingrich, Mr. Romney would still have enough votes to secure the nomination. Finally it is my understanding that while the rules of the national Republican Party may technically permit these bound delegates to vote for someone else in the sense that it would not be possible to stop them, it is unlikely that many of them would do so, as they were chosen based on their expressed and apparently sincere desire that Mr. Romney be the nominee, and were they to break their pledge and defy the will of the voters, they would face, if not expulsion or prosecution, at least an end to the trust of their peers and their active involvement in the party. If I am mistaken, in what am I mistaken?

    Glenn is sooooooooooooooo right, we can’t just make empty comments and statements like “We’re Americans” and such… go back 10, 20 or 30 years, remember your childhood, remember when being an America and being in America really meant something, there was substance and a strong ideal and feeling behind it. We need to show each other and the world through our actions, directly to one another… help ourselves, have honor and integrity again, we need to rebuild ourselves and our honor and show each other we care, not for a political agenda or some rhetoric gaining moment, but just to be Americans. We need to stop the hate and attacks, we need to squelch the vitriol that the left and the progressives have been snowballing in their desperate and despicable attempts to gain and retain control of their power… it must end and we must do things through the goodness of actions and not through the emptiness of words without positive actions. Lets not argue, lets try to be nicer so our family, friends, neighbors and strangers. Learn to look people in the eye when you walk past them, a simple friendly smirk or smile, just a friendly wave hi to someone walking down the street as you drive by in your car. Let someone merge into traffic, ease back and give them room, let someone make that turn when you know there are a line of cars behind you, or don’t block a driveway or intersection. Hold a door open, and teach your kids by example, kindness is contagious :-)

      Calmly say “We both want to get to the same solutions, no one ever said we don’t want healthcare or to help the poor. What we are saying is you want it through one governing body, we want it through competition and free enterprise, but both get to the same destination to help others. We all want clean air, clean water and for people to be safe. However in free market, if you don’t like a company, its offerings, its costs you can go elsewhere and that company will have to do better to compete for your business. In a governing body model – they are a monopoly and are the only game in town, you take what they offer and if you don’t like it, who do you complain to, the same people who won’t give you better service? Its a monopoly run by the government and you are then stuck. Competition and the free market are a healthy and more productive ends to a means.”

      We need to change the argue and stop the left and liberals from thinking its either their way or Madmax apocolypse which is a lie, explain both sides and always explain both of you want to get to the same destination, you just want to do it in different ways, so in essence you are both the same, get liberals and conservatives to realize they can have a healthy and productive debate and not a polarized screaming match.

    I love Beck, but he hast to stop deifying Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln did at least as much damage to the country as Andrew Jackson, more I think. Lincoln was the first real elitist big-government President that placed his own avarice before all else. He spent much of his time in office stomping on the US Constitution and violating the rights of US citizens. I would ask that everyone please read “the Real Lincoln” by Thomas DiLorenzo. Our book club read it and fact checking bears out the author’s conclusions. You will be shocked at what Lincoln and his generals did to get what they wanted, it will remind you of Obama, seriously. The end DOES NOT justify the means. If we value the truth, then we MUST value the unvarnished truth about everything.

    Glenn, I watched the whole program, it was totally awesome as usual, my favorite – your ending speech , Although there were tears in and out, the ending speech grabbed my heart right out from my chest, I played it over and over and over again, and hopefully I have saved it so I could show the people who are way too light on spirit or are way too “busy” to be bothered.       Sucks I couldnt be there. I bought tickets and had section DD row 14 seats 28-30 but my damn mechanic didnt fix my car yet. I knew I should have not trusted a backyard mechanic. Thats ok. Im going to renegotiate my price because 200 more and I could just have gone to the damn shop. Not much of a good deal. Oh well. 828 was amazing and Im happy I was able to go to that one. I am very happy nothing bad happened there either. But guess I wasnt meant to be there. Im also happy that my 3 tickets were only 10 bucks each and that I was up to buy them at 10am pre order. Guess Ill just make plans for his next event. Hope everyone had a great time

      What is positive about a statement like, “To have honor, you must have faith.”

      Well I don’t have faith, is he then saying I have no honor?

      When he says, “In order to have honor, you must be true to God”

      Which God is he talking about? Who decides what it means to be true to God? There could be two religious people, each saying something different, but both might believe they are being true to God. Who is right? Who is wrong?

      Surely a lot of Christians think that Beck isn’t being true to God because he is a Mormon.

      One thing that shouldn‘t be up for dispute is that Mormonism isn’t Christianity. It hijacked parts of Christianity, as did Islam. The book of Mormon is called “Another Testament of Jesus Christ.” It’s pretty absurd that Jesus would need ANOTHER Testament besides the New Testament(especially when it contradicts the New Testament).

      Another thing that shouldn‘t be up for debate is that Christianity isn’t Judaism. It hijacked Judaism for itself and stole their God. To say that Christians worship the same God of the Jews is an insult to Jewish people and their faith.

      All of these religions claim the same divinity behind their beliefs and all are just as likely to be wrong.

      MOD-IS-BEST.. If you had paid any attention to the Restoring Faith — Under God:Indivisible event the night before, many of your questions would be answered.

      As far as you having honor (or not), since you have no faith then by what measure would you base honor upon? Man’s idea of honor? A cow’s idea of honor? Conservative honor? Liberal honor? Surely not God’s because you said you have no faith. You have nothing to base true honor upon but you quickly judge someone else’s idea of honor. Do you base honor upon faith in yourself? How does that fit with your neighbors idea of honor? With no possible valid baseline for you to use as a model for honor except your own ideals, it would seem that you are lacking….honor.

      I’m not a man of faith either. But I’m not twisted up in knots because the man did not stipulate that those without faith are honorable as well.
      I think at one time, many years ago, I may have been offended by a lot of what G man says because my beliefs were ridged and tied to my ego but that is not the case for me now. It seems like those who do not believe are more open minded and for some, yes, but most no. Of course religious people exhibit similar compulsions but I find more close minded, ego driven atheists than believers. I would never be upset that Christians did not include me in their proclamations or try to pry apart the different denominations and pit them against each other to stroke my own ego. It’s just asinine. I go no further down the rabbit hole of the atheists mind.

      The honorable tale that if God tells you to kill your son, you should obey because hey, after all, it’s God?

      The same kind of honor that Lott showed when he offered up his daughters to get raped instead of the angels?

      The same kind of honor that says a human sacrifice is moral and necessary?

      Need I go on?

      We all define honor in our own way. What may be honorable to one person isn’t honorable to another.

      I define my honor by despite me being an Atheist, have religious friends of all backgrounds who I care for deeply.

      I define my honor by valuing their children’s life, more then I do my own.

      I define my honor by trying to win on the battlefield of ideas and not of threats of eternal damnation(something faith doesn’t do).

      I define my honor by admitting that I don’t have all the answers, that there is more then one way to live a moral life and that I could be wrong on my view points of life(something faith doesn’t do).

      Who decides what is “true” honor? Which God do we base “true” honor off of? Which interpretation of which God do we base “true” honor off of?

      Is a Catholics idea of “true” honor the same as a Protestants? What about a Mormon, or Muslim, or Buddhists?

      The only problem is, Beck is talking about unifying people.

      If Beck really cared about America, he would be talking about Freedom, liberty, pursuit of happiness, things that all people can agree on, regardless of whether or not they follow a God.

      You can’t accuse other people of trying to divide America, and then say, “In order to have honor, you have to have faith.”

      Honor and faith are independent of each other and as you can see, there is already one person on here who is questioning my honor because I don’t think a God exists.

      How can atheists be close minded? It’s a rejection of a claim. Most of the Atheists I know take the “weak” stance in that they won‘t say a God doesn’t exist, just that they haven’t been swayed by the evidence.

      It is religion who says they know a God exists. Even more so that their God is the correct one and that I‘m going to hell if I don’t accept it. You can’t get more close minded then that.

      None of what I do on here is based around my ego. Most people who know me would say I’m self-deprecating, not egotistical.

      Also, the denominations don’t need me to “pry apart” the different denominations, they do that themselves. It‘s mainly Christians who say that Mormonism isn’t Christianity(which is true) and Rick Santorum said Protestants were no longer Christians.

      As I said, all of these religions claim the same divinity behind their beliefs and use it to reject the other religion’s claims.

      Do I think mormons are insane people who believe in a world of many gods instead of one and are theologically pinheads and definitely NOT Christian, YES I DO. But I can watch Beck without taking offense when I see a man simply trying to do what he believes is right. Every great moment in this country has preceded itself with a great awakening of religion not atheism. The bedrock of the values you cherish are rooted and immutable only because they are provided by God. If they came from evolution, then clearly they can change and evolve for the better, and will be constantly a moving target. This is why you won’t see any great movements lead by athiests, it just doesn’t happen.

      @ Moderation… The Bible is a book that describes what God’s plans are for us, what happens when you follow those plans, includes examples of real humans who fall short of God‘s ideal life and shows the consequences of following your own human will rather than God’s. The Bible also describes how even our failures and imperfection can be used for the Glory of God.

      See here is the deal, God’s will is going to be done, the choice we have is whether we will go WITH Him or AGAINST Him.

      Going against God brings a death sentence, so whether you think it “right” for the Bible to describe a death sentence for sins that is to be carried out on earth (as in your examples) or in the final judgement, the penalty for sin is still death.

      The examples you site (and they seem to be the popular ones non-believers use to somehow imply that they are so much more moral and enlightened than God) illustrate how letting sin openly continue in a society is dangerous and can destroy a society.

      It is like having a cancerous tumor within the human body, if the tumor is not removed, the whole body will eventually die. The examples you site show that it is better for the body (society) to remove the diseased part (the sinful son) rather than let that infection spread and destroy all.

      Those are admonisions to God’s people to make sure their children live uprightly. As for me, if I knew the actions of my kids would result in death,I would do all in my power to make sure they were

      The thing is, the Bible hasn’t proven any of its claims of sins, or an afterlife, or hell to be true.

      It’s just something that you “believe” will happen. You have absolutely no proof outside of what the Bible has said to accept any of it as true.

      Besides, you then openly admit that even if God was evil, you would still worship him out of fear of eternal punishment.

      I don’t need a scapegoat for my “sin.” I am responsible for my actions and don’t need to hurl them onto someone else. I will not worship a tyrant. Hell, I won’t worship anything. I view worship as a disgusting practice in general. I don’t think anything or anyone is worthy of worship.

      That was merely a test of loyalty, one that Abraham passed with flying colors. God never intended to have Abraham kill his son. He wanted to see who Abraham loved more. It was obviously a tough choice for Abe, but he did it anyway. That’s a beautiful story of faith, I‘m sorry if you can’t see it that way.

      Now you’re just being a punk. Jesus’ disciples begged him to run, to resist, but it was Jesus’ choice to become a martyr. His death was more powerful a message than living whatever short life he had left in the 1st century at 34 years old. He couldn’t live forever as a mortal. Besides, King Herod was after him since before he was even born. He had to have thought his luck had run out.

      Obviously Abraham thought he was doing the moral thing, because God commanded it. In Abraham’s mind, sacrificing your child was a moral action that God would ask of you. Any story of “faith” which includes someone willingly trying to sacrifice another human being isn’t a story that should be revered in my eyes.

      I suggest you read Genesis 19:8
      “Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”"

      Whether or not Jesus died willingly is irrelevant. It is Christianity today who says that he did that on my behalf. Well I don’t want that. I don’t remember asking for it. I think a human sacrifice is disgusting, and if I were alive at that time period, I would have to fight against it. I would have to reject it and say that I don’t want it done on my behalf.

      There will never be absolute peace.

      I am not a Christian, and it shows your ignorance and loyalty to your faith that just because I can live a moral life that I would “make a great Christian.” There are moral Muslims, Jews, Christians, Atheists, Agnostics. Also, being a Christian doesn’t automatically make you moral.

      In order to understand the reason for Christ’s crucifixion, we must know the plan of salvation revealed from the Old Testament. Since the fall of mankind in the garden of Eden, every person has had a problem with sins they have committed. God, in contrast, is holy, which means He never has and never will commit any sin and will not stand in the presence of anyone who has sinned. In the Old Testament, God provided a means of eliminating sin through a blood sacrifice. Why did God choose to use a blood sacrifice? No one can say for certain, since none of us have the mind of God. However, I believe God wanted to make sure that we knew how costly sin is to Him.

      God stated very explicitly that the daily sacrifice for sin, performed by the priests, would be replaced through the establishment of a new covenant and foretold what He would do to satisfy His requirement for a blood sacrifice for sin. The sacrifice was to be done by His Servant, who is His Son, both man (descended from David) and eternal God simultaneously. Only a sacrifice by a holy God, who is Jesus Christ, could pay the penalty for our sin. His sacrifice would be costly and would require death by crucifixion, which would pay the penalty for our sin. Crucifixion is one of the most cruel and tortuous ways to die. When we think how Jesus died on the cross for us, it is to remind us of the cost of our sin, and God’s love for us, in His willingness to personally die for us, so that we can commune with a holy God.

      Oh…..my……goodness. That is the most hilarious defense I‘ve ever seen for Lot’s actions.

      You can defend their life, at the expense of your own life, or even at the expense of your daughters. Lot didn’t do that, he didn’t try to “defend” anybody’s life. Also, one could argue that those “guests” life weren’t in danger for their life, that the mob just wanted to rape them. The fact is, Lot didn’t try to defend his guests life at the expense of his own life. What did he do? He offered up his daughter’s instead.

      The only moral action would be, “You will have to kill me if you want to rape these people.” Did lot take this action? No. He didn’t even try to tell the Mob what they were planning to do was wrong. He almost eagerly offers his virgin daughters to get raped.

      According to you, God can do whatever he pleases because he is God. It is God who said that a human sacrifice was necessary. He could have easily had said, “okay, you’re all forgiven.” No, he didn’t do that.

      Your religion boils down to this.

      Your God sent himself, to be sacrificed to himself, to create a loophole for a system that he created.

      The video that Glenn showed of the pilgrim talking while aboard his ship sailing for the “New England” is amazing,,,Glenn has once again clarified history for us in reminding us that the pilgrims were humble and were concerned at HOW their efforts/results would be perceived by the rest of the world.,.,.hence the reference to the “light” shining on the city…it is nice to think of America as being the “shining city on the hill” (a quote that actually originated in the Bible) but the reference is so much more! Thank You Glenn!
