‘Racism is Part of the Fabric of Our Country’: Lib Actress Explains Difference Between Attacking Bush & ‘Disrespecting’ Obama

Racism is Part of the Fabric of Our Country: Lib Actress Explains Difference Between Attacking Bush & Disrespecting ObamaDuring a panel discussion on Current TV’s “Joy Behar: One Week Only *Until the Fall,” actress Janeane Garofalo, whose last major movie role was in a cartoon about a mouse that cooks, explained that the only reason people criticize (“disrespect”) President Obama is because they’re racist, America is racist, and the whole world is racist.

Oh, and according Garofalo and Behar, when people criticized (“disrespected”) President George W. Bush, it was totally different because, like, no one did it to his face — and it wasn’t racist.

“I’ve have noticed there is a certain amount of disrespect for President Obama that I haven’t seen before,” Behar said.

“Well, he is black,” Garofalo said matter-of-factly.

“Is that the reason?”

“For the racists in the Republican Party, the conservative movement and the racists in the country, yes.”

Blogger Craig Crawford pointed out that when George W. Bush was president, he was harshly criticized as well. Garofalo would have none of that because, you see, President Obama is black and therefore criticizing him is obviously racist — because we’re a totally racist country.

“Don’t even try to conflate this,” Garofalo said.

She continued:

This is different and the denial of the racism is bizarre to me. You know, racism is part of the fabric of our country and many other countries since the beginning of time. It would be odd if there was no racism going on now. If you track the Southern Poverty Law Center and other — ACLU and other institutions who track hate crimes — racist, racists, hate mail all of this kind of stuff was it has spiked through the roof since he announced he was going to run.

Behar returned to the point about criticizing George W. Bush.

“When Bush was in office and I was doing stand-up, I was all over him and I would make cracks about him all the time. But if I was sitting with him, I would not be disrespectful,” Behar said, explaining that it’s better to “make a crack” behind someone’s back than say it to their face.

“I think that that’s the difference,” she continued, “It’s like, ‘yeah, we can talk about them anyway we want’ when we’re talking about them because this is a free country and this is my first amendment. But you have a certain amount of respect for the office and for the person when he is actually in the room with you.”

We assume she gave this talk to comedian Stephen Colbert after his speech at the 2006 Correspondent’s Dinner.

“That’s where they’ve gone over the line,” Behar concluded.

Watch [via The Daily Caller]:

“There’s a big difference between criticizing George Bush and criticizing the things he did and criticizing Barack Obama,” Garofalo agreed.

“George Bush was certainly very criticism-appropriate for a lot of things he did. Barack Obama has done a lot of things I would criticize as well. This is different,” she added without really explaining why it is — it’s just racist, okay?

“And I don’t understand why so many people are reticent to discuss race in this country. We are not a post-racial society,” she added.

“No, not yet,” Behar said. “Not in our lifetime. There‘s no country in the world that’s post-racial yet, I don’t think.”

“Until the human condition changes, we won’t be,” she added, apparently channeling the spirit of Biggie Smalls.

What they fail to explain is how Obama got elected – Blacks are 12% of the population so whites had to have voted for him to win the election. What they didn’t find out he was Black until after the election? Or more than likely they discovered the truth after the election – That he is a Communist! Truth hurts if you are a Liberal!

I saw the headline then I saw “Behar/Garafalo”. That’s all I needed to know.
Garafalo was the “straight up racist” bandying buffoon who commented on the cropped photo MSNBC used of a black man at a town hall meeting in 2009. The man was carrying a gun (legal in his state). MSNBC dutifully cropped the photo to hide the fact that he was black and then proceeded with the “tea party racists” angle Media Matters told them to run with. Lefties still dust that one off today hoping it will work. Anyway..I digress…Garafalo bought it hook line and sinker and ran with it with almost euphoric gusto. “Straight up racists” was her decree..at a photo that hid a black man.

I hope in the future there will be a federally appointed group of people not connected politically much like a sequestered jury that has the power to vett possible candidates. We can’t trust the MSM media to do the job. A balance of the parties and independents would do fine for me. They would also need to give constitutional tests that the candidates must pass. The testing members would have some semblance of anonymity to make them untouchable.

Why idiot woman, did so many white people vote for Obama? Because we thought he was who he said he was. We learned quickly he lied about everything. Most of us don‘t hate him because he’s black, it’s because he knows nothing and the job is too big for him. We need a real leader in this Country, not some upstart still in knee pants, mentally.

If Allen West were to run for president, I’d probably vote for him as long as I agree with his views and politics (so far, I agree with him on most of his stated views). I wouldnt have had a huge problem with Herman Cain if he’d stayed in the running. I liked him a lot.

I think Martin Luther King had a point, we need to judge people on the content of their character, not the color of their skin. I dont like Obama’s character, I could care less about what color he is.

You liberals are pathetic. I don’t give a damn what color President Obama is. I took the time to research his background and qualifications during the presidential campaign and the simple fact is that the man, regardless of his color, is unqualified to be president of the United States. He has no experience in industry, he has no experience in Washington, he has no foreign affairs experience. He was a community organizer and a part-time, non-tenured, adjunct law lecturer at the U. of Chicago. He spent some time as a part-time Illinois legislator, and was elected to the U.S. Senate but served less than 2 years as a freshman Senator prior to being elected to the presidency—and during most of those 2 years he was out campaigning for the office, not in the Capitol doing the job he was elected to do. His color doesn’t matter. He is in over his head in the Oval Office and is doing a lousy job as president. Some people, generally vice-presidents thrust into the position, have grown into the job. He hasn’t. He has not earned the chance at a second term and he will not be reelected.

I had a conversation with a friend of mine a while ago where we were talking politics. obama was discussed and I said I resented the fact that he was black. That threw my friend off a bit since it sounded so racist. I went on to say that I hadlooked forward to the day when we would have a black president, but obama is such a bad president, anti-constitution, anti-free market, anti-just about everything this country stands for, that I fear we will never have a truly good black presidential candidate again, much less another black president. Think of how much good obama could have done with the black community had he not had such socialist leanings. In all of our current mess blacks have suffered the most–unemployment, disentigration of the family, single mother births, welfare dependence, crime, etc. A lost opportunity for a real leader to have made a positive difference. I also look forward to the day we have a great woman president. I don’t know when it will happen, but I pray she will be a constitution loving lady with sound fiscal creds. We’ll see.

She’s saying those who have disagreement with O, if your a Republican, are inherently racist without any evidence. And disagreement is fine as long as it’s her type of disagreement. Furthermore, disrespect of a sitting President, if he is black, is also racist. Even though horrible things were spoken about Bush in public and on live television for 8 years, applied to O is auto-racist. It’s a non-sense argument. She has said these things in the past as well. When you stand against someone simply because of hue, then, yes, you’re racist… and likely very dim. There are numerous reasons to have actual cause to hate on politicians. “Not having a decent role in the last 5 years,” in no way invalidates her points. To deny the racism inherent in this nation’s perceptions is fallacy. To deny that Obama, or any politician ever, has made mistakes would likewise be a farce. One cannot deny the fact that as soon as Obama became the Democratic Caucus’ nominee, the number of racist/hate groups began to climb, from around 200 in 2008, to now over 1100. If you think this has nothing to do with Obama being not white, you are an intellectually dishonest fool, or a liar.

You are correct that her lack of work does not invalidate her opinions it is indeed her own opinions that invalidate her opinions because she is an idiot.Hope i cleared that up for you………….

Azathoth, your statement reveals your dishonesty. Having the media on his side has been his great advantage. These groups have always existed but were small and insignificant and would have remained so but the media decided to blow them out of proportion. Or is there any other reason we’re all called rasicts? Obama is a fool and a criminal regardless of his skin color. I have black friends who will tell you the same thing. Come by for lunch sometime…….

Azathoth- In a libs mind they can make the connection that almost anything is racist, Drudge is racist, Bush is racist, teaparty is racist, seems in order for the libs to keep their power they need more racism, almost like they are turning racism into big business, shame, shame, blessed be the peacemakers and your guys aren’t it.

Liberals have nothing to base their support for Obama on. When they can’t support a person based on policy results then they cry racism.

The liberals defense of this administration has fallen back to the time tested charge of racism. If they don’t get their way that is the only thing it can be. The dem lib party really is a very sad thing to watch.

Why do we care what these two twits say? They are both has beens. Jeanne Barf-ofalo isn’t a good actress to begin with. The fact she has no roles is a true testament to her acting ability. Her politics also sucks.

I don‘t like Janeane Garofalo and I don’t like obama.I also don’t like Joy. Does that make me racist?
The fact that I don’t like their lib slant on everything has nothing to do with it. I don’t like them because they are black. It has nothing to do with anything they say or do, it’s only because they are black.
Oh wait, Joy and Janeane aren’t black? Then how is it I don’t like them?

I agree with you. I don’t like any of the three, either.

However, you must understand that you are racist simply because you exist and are not one of the “chosen”. If you were one of the chosen and the anointed, you could say what you wanted, be as racists as you wanted and do what you wanted and it would all be okay.

      Pat -

Sad to say, Air America was defunct the last time I checked.

“No, not yet,” Behar said. “Not in our lifetime. There‘s no country in the world that’s post-racial yet, I don’t think.”

Darn, darn, darn! I was going to suggest that perhaps Greenland would be nice this time of year. Maybe if both went to one of the stricter Muslim countries, the guys would toss a burka over their heads, stick them in a closed compound and they would never see anyone again other than immediate family members. That way they wouldn’t have to worry about racism, but simply keeping their owners – oops! I meant husbands – happy.
