Lib Blog Accuses Gov. Rick Perry of ‘Twisting Biblical Story,‘ Plunging TX into ’Economic Ruin’

ThinkProgress, the leftist, Soros-funded blog is taking issue with Texas Gov. Rick Perry thoughts on faith and the government’s role in society. During a recent interview with James Robison’s Life Today television program, Perry said the following:
I think in America from time to time we have to go through some difficult times — and I think we’re going through those difficult economic times for a purpose, to bring us back to those Biblical principles of you know, you don’t spend all the money. You work hard for those six years and you put up that seventh year in the warehouse to take you through the hard times. And not spending all of our money. Not asking for Pharaoh to give everything to everybody and to take care of folks because at the end of the day, it’s slavery. We become slaves to government.
These words were apparently offensive to ThinkProgress, as blogger Marie Diamond wrote:
Perry twists a famous Biblical story into a bizarre anti-government tirade, comparing the U.S. government to slave masters in ancient Egypt. Skewing religion to reinforce his personal political ideology, Perry chastises people not to rely on government for help in hard times, and suggests those who are suffering have no one but themselves to blame for not making adequate preparations…
Of course, the most alarming take away is that Perry seems comfortable plunging his own state into economic ruin because he thinks it will encourage people to come back to God.
Meanwhile, Texas’ economy is actually in very good shape, especially when compared to cash-strapped and unemployment-ridden states like California. Last month, Bloomberg Businessweek reported on the much rosier situation Texas finds itself in:
The Texas unemployment rate dropped for the third consecutive month to 8.0 percent in April as another 32,900 nonfarm jobs were added, the state employment agency said Friday.
Jobs grew for the seventh consecutive month, and Texas has added more than 86,000 positions since the start of the year, according to Texas Workforce Commission figures.
The Texas jobless rate dropped from 8.1 percent in March and 8.2 percent a year ago, remaining below the national figure of 9.0 percent. The March figure marked the first time in four years that the state’s unemployment rate fell in consecutive months.

Posted on June 14, 2011 at 2:21pmActually, the Bible story says there were seven years of plenty and seven years of famine.
I was quite surprise when I realized what happened during those seven years of famine. It sounds more like something of a socialist takeover. Note that, according to KJV Genesis 47, the people gave up the following during those seven years of famine: 1) all their money; 2) all their cattle; 3) all their land; 4) submitted to a 20% tax.
Note the following statements:
“my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands…buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh…
And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh’s….
And as for the people, ahe removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt even to the other end thereof…
Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh…”
Desperate decisions come about during desperate times. Is this part of the liberal/progressive plan – economic hardship until the people give up everything? So, the story is more of a warning of what could happen in desperate times of the people are not self-sufficient.
Store up your own food, everyone!

Posted on June 14, 2011 at 2:09pmThe funny thing is that Perry was a little off on the facts, but they didn’t notice that part. The Egyptians stored up extra food throughout the all of the 7 years preceding the famine – not just on the 7th year. I think he was confusing it with the Israelites storing up the mana on the 6th day so they would have mana on the 7th. You would have thought they‘d blast him on this so they could try to claim he’s not a christian or whatever.
Report Post »I do think his final statement about being “slaves to government” deviates and distracts from the better part of his argument. In fact, you could say that the Egyptians BECAME slaves to the government because of Pharaoh storing up the food (at Joseph’s request). People came from all around because they were starving to ask for food during the famine. That‘s why Joseph’s family traveled so far to ask for grain. That’s a main part in the story of Joseph.
I’m a Texan. I’m not a huge Perry fan, but for the most part he’s been a good governor. I do find him a little schmoozy… but what politician isn’t? Oh… Ron Paul I guess.

Posted on June 14, 2011 at 2:08pmAll Rick Perry did was paraphrase the story from Genesis. It made sense to me.
Really, a liberal, progressive blogger, who is devoid of spirtual wisdom, lecturing her readers on biblical principles? Who’d a thunk it? If these liberals would read the book of Proverbs they might gain a lot of insight by heeding some very practical words of advice. But, on the other hand, I see their reluctance. If they read it and took it to heart, they’d quickly become conservatives and that would be a fate worse than death for them.
I’ve yet to find where the burden of helping the needy and downtrodden is placed on the government. In either the Old and New Testament. The burden is given to the individual. Not the government.
Liberals are devoid of personal responsibility. Their benevolence using other people‘s money and resources is so heartwarming isn’t it?

Posted on June 14, 2011 at 2:20pmHow many of those points are caused by the illegal immigrants that flood into Texas? And at that we are in much better shape than most other states, which shows the governor and our legislature is doing something right. Posted on June 14, 2011 at 4:54pmRick Perry is a Christian conservative that never gives.
Gov. Rick Perry has never been shy about putting his faith on display, from speeches at prayer breakfasts, to his 2005 signing of abortion restrictions into law at a church school’s gym, to inviting the nation’s governors to a prayer meeting at Reliant Stadium that some are calling “Prayer-a-palooza.”
But when it comes time to giving, the governor doesn’t come close to the biblical guidance of tithing.
From 2000, when Perry became governor, through 2009, he earned a total of $2.68 million, according to his tax records. Of that amount, he gave half a percent to churches and religious organizations, or $14,243.
By comparison, Americans averaged gifts of nearly 1.5 percent of their income to churches and religious groups.
This suggests that at least in terms of financial giving, “biblical teachings don‘t seem to weigh very heavily on the governor’s action.”

Posted on June 15, 2011 at 1:44pmPlease do not take this man at face value, as I did initially. Do your homework- Rick Perry has attended at least one Bilderberg meeting. If this evil group of globalists are interested in him, we should sit up and take notice. Perry is intended to run for prez because he will further the globalists agenda by promoting the North American Union- Mexico, US and Canada united into one region. Is this what you want as an American?
