So many things wrong here. First, the Nazis were left wing, they were socialists who took a different path than previous socialist powers. The bulk of the initial Fascist movement were disenfranchised socialist-anarchists, of which Mussolini was one (look it up). They did not give up on their leftism, they tried to end run around the requirement for society owning the means of production, by allowing property in deed without allowing control of said property by the property owner. Read up on your history, you’re terribly out of date.

My 18yr. old son informed two of his friends that “cool” revolution shirt they were wearing was actually the picture of a mass murder (Che), they threw them out. We can make a difference. Report Post »Also, Irwin Rommel was a correct Whermacht officer. He had joined the NAZI party, but mainly because it was expected of him. He was a part of the 1944 officers plot to kill Hitler.
Gpring was a hero of WW 1. He took over Richtoffens Steuffel after he was killed. He also earned the Iron Cross, First Class for his WW 1 Exploits. He was one of the very early NAZI’s to fall under Hitlers Sway (he was in the first 50 party members). He bought into the racial purity, genocide, etc. and was one of the main players in the takeover of Germany. He deserves the scorn placed upon him, Rommel doesn’t.

I still don’t understand how this is an issue for anyone here. So a bunch of sardonic lefties (of which I am admittedly one) make a bunch of silly puppets and other gifts. How this becomes un-American, I don’t know. To me it is very American because they are selling things and providing products that some people want.

Is that really the best debating tactic you have, that I am somehow supportive of Stalin? Stalin’s purges were an effort to cleanse the Soviet Union of differing opinions and conflicting ideologies, which, oddly enough, is an idea you seem to support, not me.
A democracy should be a place of free and open ideas and it seems to me you want someone to decide which thoughts are valid and which are not. This is a tactic you should be wary of because it is only positive for as long as you are on the side of the person deciding right or wrong. I want a society without a figure deciding what you or I should think.

I don’t have idealized views about figures from history. Che may have began as someone fighting against oppression, but he allowed his commitment to a narrow communist ideology turn him into a murderous tyrant. I respect Che’s commitment to fighting oppression, but his willingness to be just as violent and oppressive as those he was fighting makes him a figure whose politics I reject.
But it would also be a disservice to history to pretend that Che Guevara never existed or to cast him simply as a murderer. For me he is a prime example of the dangers of being too ideologically inflexible and his legacy should be taught as such.
