Liberal Editor Compares Immigration Announcement to Emancipation Proclamation on ABC — and Gets Refuted in Seconds

Katrina Vanden Heuvel is the liberal editor of “The Nation” magazine, the favorite mouthpiece of Frances Fox Piven. This weekend she appeared on ABC’s “This Week” to talk about Obama’s new immigration policy and announcement. And while she gleefully compared it to Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation during the Civil War, it took George Will only seconds to refute that argument (via Rightnewz.com):

    Progressives have poor argument that persuade no one so they must use activist judges or executive orders to achieve their progressive goals.

      The EmP continued to ALLOW slavery north of the Mason Dickson line, but they won’t teach that in a public school. Goes to show how brainwashed the public is with the government education system, and the FACT our civil war was NOT fought over slavery!

      Let’s get some actual history applied to the Emancipation Proclamation issued by A. Lincoln:
      It proclaimed the freedom of slaves ONLY in the ten Confederate states then in rebellion.
      The Proclamation did not compensate the owners, did not itself outlaw slavery, and did not make the ex-slaves (called freedmen) citizens. Slaves in the “Union” at that time were not freed by this.

      It was done via an Executive Order using Lincoln’s “War Powers”. Please, let‘s not confuse this with Obama’s use of prosecutorial discretion – i.e., deciding not to prosecute illegal activity – even though Obama’s directive, like Lincoln’s, only affects a portion of the peoples involved. Obama’s seems much worse as it directly countered recent actions by Congress to not pass the so called “Dream Act”.

      From your post on the Chinese cloud.

      Use Mozilla Firefox and install Ghostery for Firefox. (Ghostery doesn’t fully work in Internet Explorer).

      Set the Ghostery bubble from 15 seconds to 0 or 1 second in options and make sure blocking is enabled.

      All the pop-ups will go away.

      Also, to refresh a page faster (to see your post), under “comments” change the “Order by” from “Newest to Oldest” to “Oldest to Newest” and then back again.

      As strange as their views are, I think most pundints of the Main Stream Media are merely figure heads that take their orders from the teleprompters. Why? During unscripted debates, they can sometimes make a lot of sense. If even a panelist on CNN or whatever George Will is, can be right once in a while, I think we can save the average dreamer/sleeper in America.

      We need not go into the details of the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s typical apples and oranges, a fallacy liberals are fond of using to justify their abuse of the rule of law. The slaves were forcefully brought into this country. Nobody forced illegals to come to America; they broke in. The exit doors are wide open. Get the heck out.

      The Constitution was suspended by the War Powers Act. Or, at least parts of it. Practically every president since Lincoln has quietly suspended parts of the Constitution….except 0bama. His acts are truly overt.

    The Dutch are the slave traders. The Dutch sold slaves throughout any land they could. They brought those black tribes people here who could not read or write and we taught them to speak, read and write English. Those who are decendents, made good for the most part, just like their white counterparts. Those from other countries who came in by the boat load after being kicked out of their countries as criminals or just wanting to live here came in on their own. These people who came in on their own are the very ones causing trouble. Those who tell you differently are liars from hell.
    When those slaves arrive in the colonies, most of them had never even seen a black person. They did not know what to think of them. The Dutch told the colonists they were animals who could work, etc. The colonists after a fashion realized these were people, just a different color and began to care about them as much as they could without seeming so odd with society being what it was at the time. Over time, these strange people began to show they were a people who had been captured and brought to America. They, like all people had a very hard time because life was hard then. For the most part people work out their differences. There were some bad and selfish people who, no doubt needed to be made by law to do what True Christians should do. Free the slaves. There is bad and good in every ethnic group, but the Dutch are noted money grubbers. They would sell their own into slavery.

      While most of what you’re saying is on point, you’re romanticizing the reasons for criminalizing slavery. It wasn’t about some great cultural awakening where everyone realized Africans were actually people too (as many slave owners were also African) and it wasn‘t about christians banding together to do what’s right (not only does the bible allow slavery, most of the slave owners who resisted these laws were christian). It was about money. The slave labor force was able to make America such an economic powerhouse. After building up this giant industry, it made economic sense to switch to a capital-based system. This way, the slave owner became an employer of African labor – he didn’t have to clothe, feed, or shelter his workers – which became a more profitable endeavor once the supply and demand became great enough.

    Pres. O’s new immigration policy is only about politics and votes…until you secure the boarder whats the point?? Deport, then no way of stopping people from coming back in the USA?? And what are you doing about the next 800,000 that are already here with infants?? And how did the “illegal” folk get into the military?? Isn’t that a little scary for national defense??? If Russia, China, Mexico, or another nation wants to take over the country, then why not just have their citizens come and squat in USA and then just enlist into the military?? Soon your national defense is made up mostly illegals running your armed forces… Am I wrong with this???

If people from any ethnicity are illegally entering this country and then joining our military, how does that not scare the heck out of every American citizen? They always want to make the issue of illegal immigration to only be about people from Mexico. Well it’s not people.       First .. I heard the number is more like 2 to 3 MILLION and that needs to be reported .. no one knows for certain but they do tend to be “surprised” by the unemployment rate each month and have to adjust up .. so I think it MUST be more than the 800,000.

      And who’s jobs are these illegals going to take? Black youth now have an unemployment rate of over 40% … they are going to get scr*wed because of this AMNESTY. That needs to be reported also.

      there is a radio announcement that says “if you want help with an education or if you want government run employment, you must sign up for military (register), even if you are an illegal. You can do so online or at the post office”. I thought companies have gotten fined for using illegals, and here the federal government welcomes it.

    Is she able to explain how this is like the Emancipation Proclamation? No. The EP dealt with the freeing of slaves. I guess if you are here illegally you are a slave? No. If you are here illegally it is because you want to live the American way of life without going through the proper channels. So, in a manner of speaking, you enslave yourself.     There will come a time in our country in the not too distant future where the enforcement of US Constitutional Law will take precedence over all.
    This will effect the manipulative “‘do as I say not as I do” ruling class as well
    Those of us fortunate enough to NOT GO to Ivy league schools already understand and abide the rule of law in our country.
    We are becoming a lawless society where terms like ‘treason’ are laughed off.

    Just think, if your father had robbed a bank 15 years ago, and hid the money, and now you found it, The Govt. says that is no fault of your own so I guess it is OK for you to spend it.
    I wonder why if I had 2 beers at dinner, then drove home from the resturant, I could be charged with Multiple felonies, but if I sneek an infant, illegally into another country, across dangerous terrain and life threatening situations, then the US Govt. comes out and promotes that type of behavior?

      Went to school with her younger sibling.

      This is being played out by Obama and Holder to help break the finances of this country. Everything they have done is to go against anything American down to using DHEW (Department of Health Education and Welfare) to be able to introduce laws touching every aspect of American lives and to use these laws to cause hardship upon those who have corporations and businesses here in this country to have to close. They want to institute other corporations they control one way or the other under different brands to gain wealth and power and limit Americans in what they may produce and buy. These people are preparing America to be under dictatorial rule from the bottom up. It is time to stop them.

Keep in mind the Dutch brought the slaves to America who were captured by their own people, warring tribes and those captured by one or the other tribes were sold to the Dutch. This beeaytch should know her own history enough to know who did what in her own “roots.”
