‘Liberal Ladies’ Group Holding Sex Strike: ‘If Our Reproductive Choices Are Denied, So Are Yours’

Liberal Ladies Who lUnch Call for Sex Strike: If Our Reproductive Rights Are Denied, So Are Yours

(Photo: Facebook Group 'Access Denied Sex Strike')

The women’s group “Liberal Ladies Who Lunch” is putting together an unusual event, which it is calling “Access Denied: Sex Strike.”  The event, which is scheduled to take place between April 28 and May 5, features a poster saying “If our reproductive choices are denied, so are yours.”

The group describes their motivations on the event’s Facebook page, saying, “In truth, if we lose our hard won rights to medical care, birth control and pregnancy choice, it won’t only affect women. Men will have to go back to the days when they waited for or paid for sex. This issue impacts all of us. This strike is designed to make that point. Ask your man to speak up for your rights, because when we lose our reproductive choices, so do they.”

The group then gives a somewhat entertaining history of “sex strikes,” ranging from ancient Greece to modern-day Columbia:

In the ancient Greek play Lysistrata, the women of Greece go on a sex strike to end the decades-long Peloponnesian War. Since then, many women around the world have gone on similar sex strikes to keep their men in line.

[...]

[And in Colombia, in 2006] the girlfriends of gang members in one of the country’s most violent cities, Pereira — with a murder rate at the time of 97 per 100,000 people — held a ‘strike of crossed legs,’ giving their men the choice between giving up weapons or giving up sex. ‘We want them to know that violence is not sexy,’ said Jennifer Bayer, an 18-year-old girlfriend of a gang member.

The outcome: In 2010, Pereira’s murder rate dropped by 26.5 percent, the steepest decline in the country.

Unfortunately for the “Liberal Ladies Who Lunch,“ who describe themselves as ”turning America blue, one plate at a time,” the comments section of the event seems to have been overtaken by conservatives.

One commenter put up a picture of Helen Thomas, commenting “Somehow, I’m OK with this.”

Other comments included:

Liberal Hypocrisy: Demanding the government stay out of your bedroom and your womb while at the same time demanding they pay for your birth control and abortions

Isn’t using sex as a bargaining tool contradictory with women wanting to be seen as more than just sex objects?

Just a question for the strikers.  Do you support reproductive choice for men?  Should a man be able to tell his pregnant girlfriend he doesn’t want to be a father and give up all responsibility for the child?  Thanks for the response.

Combine this with the Roe Effect and liberals will be sexless AND childless

“Liberal Ladies Who Lunch” has not yet responded to the fact that, among the most recent fifty comments, there doesn‘t seem to be a single one that isn’t mocking.

They have, however, posted a satirical video of two modestly dressed women singing about the Rush Limbaugh controversy:

AMERICANS WITHOUT INSURANCE HAVE ACCESS TO BIRTH CONTROL
Democrats are loving their manufactured Birth Control War, but facts get in their way.
Democrats claim that Americans don’t have access to affordable contraception. However, Target and Walmart offer a month’s supply of birth control pills (Sprintec and Tri-Sprintec) at $9 to people who do not have insurance plans covering contraceptives. One more proof that we don’t need Obamacare’s contraception mandate.

Again, no one is saying that a woman using birth control is a slut. All Rush was talking about were the numbers given by Sandra Fluke, which would amount to 1000 condoms a year. Only in that context, of spending $3000 on contraception could a conclusion of a “slut” be drawn. You are falsely taking out of context what people are saying. Not only that, but you then place the whole republican party to blame for your contextual argument.

This makes your whole argument false and void at it face value. You are distorting (IE lying) to setup false pretenses to your position by demonizing the opposition. This is not honest debating on your part.

The issue is that no one, save the person needing the birth control, should be paying for it. Now if the have a significant other or husband, then the burden of paying for such items can be shared by both parties. We simply do not stand for asking the taxpayers to fund the reproductive rights of women. It is their right to have sex, not have sex, and wear protection. However, it is their responsibility to provide themselves with protection and sexual devices. Even if the contraception has certain benefits, it is still their responsibility to bear the burden of cost.

Sandra Fluke’s argument is an expectation for government interference based on limits in choice from a private institute. One well known when she and her examples choose to go there. And if not, they did not do their studying.

Just like a signer of a contract is responsible for reading the contract. If they did not read the terms and conditions, it does not absolve them of the terms and conditions. It makes it more sound like buyer remorse.

Sandra fells that someone should not have to choice a quality education for birth control, but this is real life choices… She, and her examples, are more than able to get the same level (if not better) from other universities like Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, etc… If they are not getting accepted to these prestigious colleges, maybe they should apply themselves more in school work. Or better yet, still go to Georgetown and apply the extra effort to a job to pay for the birth control themselves. They want life absent of choices by having a one size fits all program. Removing religious institutes from education all together, or for a religion to conduct in acts against their dogma.

You and Sandra are supporting in limiting freedom of people and private industries in deciding the level of care and services they want to offer. No where are we asking for a limitation to the ACCESS of birth control. She and her friends can still get birth control with no prescription from CVS, Walmart, Target, etc… There is no limitation on the access. There is only a limit to whom funds it based on their own views of entitlement.

His divisive actions, carried out by the Eric “my people” Just-us dept., his war on the contributing members of society, and his crony capitalism, not to mention the insensitivity towards the people made apparent by his and his mates prolific spending on jaunts about the globe, have all served to reveal his true agenda. Sorry Johnny but you’re confused. Ms. Fluke wasn’t even talking about sex. She was talking about the use of hormones to treat polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, amenorrhea, dismenorrea, lowering the risk of endometrial or ovarian cancer and other medical uses for hormones.

Rush brought up the stuff about sex, calling her names, wondering how she could walk, asking who bought condoms for her in the sixth grade, and otherwise speculating about her sex life, even though she said not one word about her sex life in her testimony. He went at it for three days Johnny, please don’t talk about remarks being taken “out of context.” That’s why all or most of his corporate sponsors have dropped his show.

You’re also seriously confused in with the idea that she was advocating that contraception be paid by the government. Where did you get that absurd idea? Actually insurance companies make more money if the cover contraception as opposed to defraying the costs associated with preganancy and birth.

Tri-Sprintec is an FDA-approved prescription drug and is the generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen. The Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR) says it is for: “Prevention of pregnancy.” It is also decrease the risk of ovarian or endometrial cancer and, for some women, to fight acne. It does make a lot of sense. While I know many attractive liberal women (Hollywood is full of them) … most of their significant others are also liberal and therefore fully support the “I play you pay” mentality of free abortions, birth-control, etc. So their target must either be the small % of liberal women who are involved with conservative men, or conservative women. So going out as a liberal group does not make much sense. And as for the Ms. Fluke situation, I would like to start golfing on a much more regular basis, so since that is my leisure-time-activity, I hope y‘all don’t mind my sticking the taxPayer with my greens fees from now on.

This whole discussion has gone way to far with a lot of false claims. The uproar was started when the Administration required that contraceptive pills, etc. be provided “free”. I had nothing to do with providing them, just who should pay for them.

No one is trying to justify “not allowing women to use contraceptive pills”, the question is “should the government be allowed to require all entities to provide them free.

Also, regardless if it will save an insurance company money in paying for other services (actually portions there of) is the right of the insurance company to pick and choose what they cover. Besides, insurance is not a payment plan for medical services. It is coverage of worst case scenarios. They copay regular checkups and other preventative services as it saves money. However, a Church still has a right to restrict services. In their minds, the Church would rather pay the insurance to cover the pregnancy as it is more ethical in their eyes as opposed to covering services that prevent or destroy new life (and do not confuse quality of life as a supplement to actual life), so your argument is null and void as a cost cutting measure.

I see you are still lacking any critical thinking skills. Explain how Insurance companies giving away free birth control is improving their profits? That just goes to show why liberals can’t make a profit on talk radio shows like Air America. I notice none of you liberals even mention Maher’s comments about women. Again, you are misinforming and distorting statements. I never said that insurance companies should not cover birth control. WHAT I DID SAY, insurance companies and the private institutes have a right to decide if they should cover it or not. I know it is hard for a progressive like you to get your head around the issue. However, it is the freedom of a company to decide what services and products they offer, or how they want to cover their employees. If someone is a smoker, they are more of a health risk. So, quitting smoking would reduce cost. Should the insurance companies pay for the products to quitting smoking?

Eating healthy and exercising regularly also helps in improving health and reducing costs. Should insurance companies pay people so they can eat broccoli and antioxidants? Should they copay diet programs, personal health equipment, memberships to spas and fitness centers? Heck, the can also pay for solar panels for homes to cut greenhouse gases from coal burning power companies. This will help reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality and reduce health problems.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but so is your original argument. It is the personal responsibility of the person to take care of themselves. If they want a copay plan for birth control, do market research and find it. If you want your school to provide it, then go to a school that will cover it – do your research. It is the responsibility of the buyer to research a product

My point is simply that this is the sum of choices. If I go to McDonald’s can I order a Whopper? No, they do not offer them. If I go to Burger King, can I order a Quarter Pounder with Cheese? No, even though their motto is “Your Way!”. However, you first must adhere to Burger Kings way and order something on their menu. Even after that, you can have it anyway you want it. They will still charge you for bacon and cheese. But they said my way… My way says it is free! They are limiting my choice…

No they aren’t, you have a choice. However, the choices are subject to the limitations of their menu and additional costs imposed. You want the extras like bacon and cheese, but ordered something that did not come with the topping? Well, you need to pay for it. Now if you can’t afford it, go out and work and make up the difference. Or alter your choices to cater to your desires. Or go to another restaurant that offers your choices as you like. This is the principle of a free market… Why should colleges, religious institutions, insurance companies and healthcare providers be any different? Nothing is forcing you to work there or go to them.

Now why are you so for the limiting of a company’s right to choose the services and products they offer? Why should government limit their freedom? And if Government can limit their freedoms, what other business can be limited by the government regulation? Can the government force grocery stores to sell only vegetables and organically grown meats? No pastas, carbs, sugars, fats, oils, corn, etc. It is in the stores best interests as the customers will live longer and they will make more money and be more profitable. Where does government have the ability to set limitations in the lives of individuals and private enterprise? What gives them this governance? What qualifies the government above the professionals of their respective fields? Does the government handle any current roles in society which run as efficiently as the business they seek to limit (look at the DMV, construction projects, the post office)? Could they run insurance more efficiently? They can’t balance their own budget currently, what makes you think they can balance a budget on healthcare?

Realize this, you are setting the precedence that is needed for government to control every part of commerce and individual lives. Limitations given by the government will inevitably become tyrannical (even if you have good leadership today – someday the wrong person may be in power), which is why our founding fathers were bent on limiting the powers of government instead.

Sorry JZS but you’re confused. The real issue at hand concerns religious liberty and contraception. Should a religious institution be forced to pay for something their religious beliefs oppose, and does the president have the authority to mandate what goods/services private companies will offer.

Now JZS, you either don’t have insurance, in that case I feel sorry for you, or you don’t understand how insurance works. When you get insurance through your place of employment, say a Catholic hospital, you pay a portion of the cost. The hospital picks up the majority of the tab. It would infringe on their religious liberty to force them to pay for services that oppose there teaching. I know you know this, but assume you couldn’t care less. I know the religious freedom of Christian Religions is not really a concern of yours.

The second problem with you argument is Presidential mandates. You think that the president has the power to force insurance companies to offer BC. Problem is, under that standard, a future president could force them to NOT offer BC. That would be the standard you would have supported. That is why private companies should decide what products their companies will offer. Simple Isn’t it?

But then again, this is coming from a group that believes it is still the 1950′s and women had no rights (reproductive or otherwise) until BO got elected….as if birth control has not been available before 2008.

@JZS: As usual your limited intellect makes even the simplest concepts sadly too difficult for your Prog brain to comprehend. No one said that using birth control made one a slut or a prostitute. The concept under discussion was whether asking total strangers to pay for the means to enable a woman (certainly not a lady) to indulge in her apparently insatiable and undoubtably exaggerated sexual escapades as a mere faceless object of a dissolute and immoral inability to practice safe and responsible self control falls within the parameters defining customary though somewhat vulgar definitions of character. Indeed,. I suspect Mr. Limbaugh’s assessment was and still is entirely accurate. While I find such an animalistic lifestyle deplorable I do not desire to prohibit such behavior through the authority of the State. Such matters are best dealt with in the spiritual domain through the auspices of the family. Obversely the State has no authority to squander the resources of the community at large on such questionable, mundane ,frivolous and fatuous desires masquerading as sacred rights. As you mature you elevate yourself above the callow and juvenile desire for reckless and irresponsible release and recognize with respect and unconditional love the human being who has chosen you to be the father of her child and she the mother of yours. And with such comprehension one understands the true meaning of marriage as something more exalted than mere copulation. It is all about respect

Hey Speck. I have a few questions for you. Does the government have a right to tell insurance companies that they can‘t drop you insurance simply because you’ve gotten a condition expensive to treat? Do insurance companies have a right to drop you insurance because you’ve given just given birth to a baby with medical problems because that was a “pre-existing condition?” Does the government have a right to tell you you must wear a seatbelt or carry insurance or drive the speed limit? Sure the government has those rights because those laws benefit the average person. There is no general support in this country for screwing the individual and sending them to bankruptcy so that a company can make some tiny additional profit.

You say that a requirement for insurance company to pay for birth control would “infringe on their [Catholics] religious liberty.” First of all, insurance companies are happy to provide the coverage, no charge. It’s cheaper for them than covering the costs associated with prenatal care and birth. But, no matter, you say this is an infringement of Catholic beliefs. Spec, what Catholics? Most people working in Catholic churches aren’t Catholic. So the Church is forcing their beliefs on them. And the Catholics who work there? They use birth control too. Spec, Catholics and anyone else who wants to avoid and unwanted pregnancy use birth control. So whose religious rights are being violated?

I did however see conservitive women get on there and talk about how people are getting tired of paying for liberal sex and their values. I did ask why they think they jhave the right to make me pay for their secxual daliences. I asked why they want so desperately for the Catholics to pay for their sex, when the Catholics stick to a far more restrictive sex life of their own. I asked if they feel that they should be responsible for their own sex life. I alslo asked why they take a simple issue like tax payers getting tired of having to pay for liberals sexual needs and so desperately trying to spin it into an all out war on women.

You jwon’t see any of this on their page because at that point they decided that any disagreement with their agenda will be considered as trolls and will be deleted.

I thought liberals were the ones who fought for free speech? I guess they meant as long as you agree with them. If you disagree they will do anything to shut you down. Probably because you use things like facts and common sense, all they can fight you with is personal attacks and even they can’t use that one for long.

On second thought you are correct. I see your point about the benefit of the good. Now that you mention it, I think the government should look into the following, you know, for the benefit of the average person.

The government should dictate what our children should eat, how much salt restaurants put in our food, whether or not men should receive vasectomies, what type and size car we should have and what MPG they will allow, what quality of food is made available for poorest among us.

You are right. The government, with their unlimited compassion and funds, are much more suited to make choices for us.

You really don’t get it do you? I don’t guess you care though. As long as you agree with what is determined to “benefit” the average person, then its ok. I’m sure you would support conservatives deciding what “benefits the average person,” you know, because you’re not a hypocrite.

There are a lot of things I could do to help people. Unfortunately, once my money runs out, so does the help. We currently live in the richest country in the world. You may not know this but I have inside sources that say the Government has a surplus between 500-600 quadrillion. With a bankroll like they can give unlimited assistance to unlimited people and not have to worry about pesky “costs” as I would.

So yea, totally agree with your plan.

from eHow.com regarding the state of Virginia’s divorce law:

Constructive abandonment can be grounds for divorce from bed and board even if neither spouse leaves the shared home. If a spouse’s behavior is such that it endangers the mental or physical health of the other, or such that it makes continuing the relationship unbearable without harm to the other party, it can be grounds for divorce from bed and board. WITHHOLDING OF SEX or the destruction of the home life can constitute desertion of the marriage, even if one spouse never physically leaves the other.

Also, the price of insurance that will cover these conditions are quite expensive. That is why there is charities and community (IE Church) that exist to help in these areas.

Does the government have a right to tell you must wear a seatbelt or carry insurance or drive the speed limit?
This is not set by the Federal Government, these are laws at the state level. Last time I saw, In the 10th Amendment the Constitution stated:
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people

As to which Catholics believe that contraception should not be used? All do (if they are good Catholics and believe the Pope is the divine link to God)!
      http://www.catholic.com/tracts/birth-control

In 1968, Pope Paul VI issued his landmark encyclical letter Humanae Vitae (Latin, “Human Life”), which reemphasized the Church’s constant teaching that it is always intrinsically wrong to use contraception to prevent new human beings from coming into existence.

Because the pope said it, it is the church’s position. You can still be a Catholic and not believe what the Pope says, but it would living in sin. However, the Catholic tradition of anti-contraception goes before this letter. It is Protestants that changed after 1930. Even Martin Luther (Lutheran founder) was against contraception.

It is an interesting double-standard. If a man fails to provide financial support for his child, he’s a “deadbeat dad”, one of the lowest forms of life on earth, and worthy of all the scorn and disdain that society can muster. But if a woman kills her child via abortion, hey no big thing, that’s her right.

These liberal women have the gall to cry about their reproductive rights, or supposed lack thereof, while in reality it’s men who have no real reproductive rights whatsoever. If a man wants a baby and the woman says no, there’s no baby. If the woman gets pregnant and the man wants to keep it, well screw you man, my body my choice! If the woman decides to keep the baby and the man doesn’t want to, tough luck buddy, pay up or go to jail. Heck, if the man just wants to have sex and the woman says no, well as we’ve all been told a million times, no means no.

But then THEY have the nerve to cry about some lack of reproductive rights? Give me a break.

There is a lot of accuracy to her statement. Men don’t have to be responsible for the children they father. She either has an abortion or she has the taxpayers pay for her child.
