Liberal Talk Show Host: I Hate This Godd–n Country

The 4th of July has concluded. And with its conclusion, a refreshing burst of honesty has at last emerged from the Left to remind us all what emotion, precisely, they actually feel for America’s tradition of freedom and personal responsibility. Apparently, in at least one case, that emotion is sheer, bone-chilling hate.

In the following clip, courtesy of the Radio Equalizer, an unidentified liberal radio host, apparently filling in for the more identifiable liberal talk show host Randi Rhodes, recounts a tragic tale of how, while sick and worried about the costs of a visit to the doctor, she quite literally screamed, “I hate this godd–n country. How can I live in a place that lets people go broke because they get sick?! How is health care not a basic human right?”

Powerful stuff. Unfortunately, the anecdote this particular host uses to make her point rather undermines her ultimate conclusion.

To begin with, observant readers will note that this particular host is not talking about having to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars, or even tens of thousands of dollars, for a treatment. Instead, she is talking about paying a potential grand total of $2000. Now, we freely admit that $2000 is quite a lot of money and certainly more than some of us could pay at one sitting. However, it’s not a sum we can imagine someone declaring bankruptcy over. So the question of how this country can let someone go bankrupt over a $2000 fee strikes us as a little melodramatic, not to mention a case of misplaced blame – after all, it‘s not the whole country’s fault that this happens.

But that ignores the even bigger point involved in this clip – namely, that the only reason this host isn’t worried about a bill in the tens of thousands of dollars or more is because she has health insurance. Let us repeat that: She has health insurance. Now, think about this for a moment – evidently, despite the endless, nauseatingly repetitive arguments advanced by the Left about how the majority of Americans are suffering under the yoke of a system where health insurance is the only sure way to get care, one of their own spokespeople is still complaining about how, despite having health insurance, she still doesn’t feel comfortable getting care. If nothing else, this undermines the notion that health insurance and health care are the same markets, which in turn undermines the entire rationale for, say, Obamacare.

However, we think there’s a deeper point here. The host complains about how health care is not a “basic human right.” We’d suggest that this tells the reader something very instructive about the ultimate goal of the Left regarding health care – namely, that it is not enough that we all be forced to buy insurance for ourselves. We must instead be forced into buying care for each other, and not even necessarily only for the poor – apparently even people with enough influence and connections to get on the radio as political commentators will be able to expropriate our charity as well. What’s the old adage from Margaret Thatcher about socialism? Ah yes, “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples’ money.”

      My business took some hits a few years back and I had to give up my insurance. Sure enough, I got sick and spent the night in the ER. I was finally seen by a doctor and the actual bed time was about two hours. It cost me $1,700! Expensive? Yes. But better than what would have been the alternative. My point? They asked what terms I could afford, I chose two years. They didn’t charge a penny of interest and there was no credit reporting. I thought that was a great deal. And almost ALL hospital give these deals to those who have the wherewithal to pay over time. I don‘t want a ride on anyone’s dime, but I may need a little time to pay from time-to-time. I carry my own water.

      I don’t like using the “if you don’t like it leave the US” because there are many things I don‘t like about the US but I certainly don’t want to leave, nor would I. I think it’s better to say, “if you don’t like freedom, and want to force others to believe what you believe” then you can leave.

      NO, Health Care is not a right. Our Society helps the less fortunate because we are supposedly loving, decent people who appreciate what GOD has given us and want to help other people…but a right? NOSIREE. Someone who smokes/drinks/does drugs/gets fats and doesn’t take care of themselves or uses ABORTIONS like birth control… I don’t think so.
      THE GOVERNMENT”S job re: Health Care? Make sure the drugs are not poison; make sure they prosecute the phony Dr’s and rip-off artists selling useless health care items (braces etc. that don’t work) and the clinics that pull people off the street with no problems to de-fraud Medicare etc. IF they (gov) did their job we wouldn’t have the problems we have. ALSO: I don’t know when it happened but this nonsense of not letting us BUY whatever INSURANCE we want to (across State Lines) because our Insurance Commissioner has been paid off…all that stops with MITT…COME ON NOVEMBER!!!

      You got away with a real deal on that $1700. ER bill ! In my state, the premium is $1400 per MONTH for an individual.
      Little known insurance biller’s fact…each health ins co has an agreement with hospitals & doctors to “accept” 10% or 15% over Medicare’s “allowable charge”. Talk about a discount ! On the average your ins co only pays about 1/3 of the real fee charged (if not less). So next time you need medical care, ask if they will accept “the same percentage over Medicare’s allowable charge that the ins companies pay” and see what happens.
      After all, it is only a piece of paper that the hospitals and doctors sign accepting the decreased fee !
      You know, just the marriage license – its only a piece of paper.
      Now you know why Ob wants the money from the health insurance industry.
      (Do the math….your insurance premium should be about 1/3 of what you or your employer is paying.)

      Healthcare is only a human right in CIVILIZED countries – so I left the US, and moved to one. Thank you, United Kingdom, for the NHS – which will be there to look after my health whether I’m rich or poor, employed or not. It is an American NATIONAL DISGRACE that the “richest country in the world” cannot figure out a way to provide health care for all citizens. The number one cause of personal bankruptcy in America is ILLNESS. Shameful.

      $1,200.00 a month plus a $2,000.00 deductible? I say BS. My insurance costs my employer $1,200 a month, I pay $87.00 every two weeks towards that and my deductible is a $20 co-pay.       “Riights” do not have “cost” consequence to others. Free speech doesn’t impose a debt on anyone. Your right to vote doesn‘t take some else’s labor or property. Your right bear arms is not a right for someone else to buy them for you. Your right to life does not enslave your neighbor to sustain you.

      As soon as your claim to a “right” implies someone else pays for it, it’s no longer a “right” but an “entitlement”.

Social Security plus paying for your own retirement by saving and investing; Paying for your own healthcare through insurance or pay-as-you-go / cash ! This woman/host needs to explain how an individual has a “right” to another person’s labor (doctor, nurse, therapist, radiologist, guy-who-delivers-medical-supplies, medical supply manufacturer, pharmacist, pharmaceutical rep., etc. etc…..looooong list). Her entire argument breaks down on that point alone. (But she leads people to believe she is “compassionate”.)

      Thank you for the friendly support. I do believe liberals do not understand this not so subtle distinction between rights and entitlements. Today, I was thinking about a better choice of words for that post.

      It seems to me I can’t call these liberals “slave owners”, even though I’m certain those of us who are paying for these entitlements are indeed “indebted servants”. The debt is one they illegitimately impose on us by making their claims to “rights” which are really entitlements.

      The collectivists are collective slave-masters.

      Everyone in America who needs health care gets it! Often free, sometimes only a small amount, if they can afford it. So, I don’t understand what all this “Human Rights thing is”
      Anyone who can’t pay for health care, gets it free in every town of America. Now, if you’re someone who wants it for free after you abuse your body with booze, cigarettes and bad eating habits, I don’t feel responsible for your health care due to your personal choices. There should be a limit to what others are required to pay for you.
      This whole thing is a scam and some who are always in line for anything that’s free
      are the ones screaming it’s a Human Right. Do like the rest of us. Work hard, save some money for a rainy day, then you can make your own decisions about what’s more important to you: Pay for your own medical care, or spend every dime living high off the hog and expect others to pick up your bills.

      I remember the days my mom didn’t have a washer/dryer, no vacuum, no phone, no TV, an old car, (no conveniences) and people on welfare think it’s a requirement to own these things. We lived through it, so can everyone else.
      Why do people want to spend money on things they can live without, until they can save up and buy it themselves and not expect the rest of us to buy it for them?
      Never could fathom the “gimme” folks with hands out all the time, even when they don’t need it. It has become a way of life for some, apparently.

      @MECBB55 Sadly, we are too far past the point-of-no-return to have respectful “differences of opinion” anymore. These people are literally wresting control of OUR finances, OUR labor, OUR freedoms, and we are heading over a precipice.

      It would be nice to sit down and have a cup of tea (go back about ten years), and pleasantly discuss varying theoretical perspectives on ideological matters….However, ‘thoughts’ have become laws, and these new manifestations of twisted leftist “logic” are propelling us to ruin.

Me thinks you are lost, confused, and can’t get back to your real home. Find the nearest Interstate and head east. When you hit the Florida state line, head south. Go all the way to the end of the state, hitch a ride on a boat and tell the navigator to take you as far south as he can. From there swim real fast and I think that’s your happy destination spot, Cuba!! Or pick Toto up, click your heels three times and you will find yourself in Cuba. Godspeed! We won’t miss ya.

    We have a long road back, is what we have! It‘s odd that people don’t squawk about “going broke” or into debt when they add a $2000, 52″ LED TV to their credit card, a $500,000 mortgage to their credit report, a $35,000 SUV payment to the picture…that’s OK but God forbid you have to make a high deductable copay for your health. How about the government does the right thing for a change by addressing the real issues and problems? Frivilous lawsuits, outrageous prices for drugs, over-charging patients who have health insurance because they can get away with it. How about limiting the time length of a patent so there is competition among drug companies? How about people start policing themselves and do the moral and just thing instead of the deceptive thing? How about R & D being done by the government instead of private drug companies? This woud lower costs and we wouldn’t be having drug shortages in this country (because who wants to make generic drugs when the company can charge $12,000 for a cancer drug that is subsidized and paid for by this government). There are so many things that should be done that will never get done now that the “giverment” has the ability and the green light to enforce taxes that are nothing but punitive! WAKE UP PEOPLE. Critical thinking is essential to making the right choices in life!

      I’m with you on most what you wrote except the goverment doing R&D, Goverment screws up almost everthing they touch except for the military, we wouldn’t have 1/2 the drugs we have now if it was left up to corrupt wheels of goverment, what pees me off is how you can’t buy across state lines and get a better deal. My state forces insurance companys to cover everthing from sexchange operations to ED drugs, come on, all I want covered is if something really bad happens to me or someone in the family, let us pay the real price for fixing a cold, my wife was seen by the doctor for 5 min. to fix a cold it cost, $250.00, that comes out to $50.00 per min. plus we have a $3000. per person deductible. What a mess of things the goverments have made of something that could be so simple.

    Congress has dictated that taxpayers buy Cadillac health insurance for federal employees, including every member of Congress. They are all provided better health insurance than will be available to 99% of the private sector and have been exempted from paying the Cadillac insurance tax.

    Actually, she’s correct: professional healthcare is NOT a human right…it is a privilege. Rights are those things provided by God, which you can exercise for YOURSELF (responsibly). You have a right to speak your mind (but not the right to lie about others), you have the right to go where you want (but not to trespass on the private property of others), you have the right to defend yourself (but not to injure others without severe provocation), and so on. “Free” healthcare imposes upon others to pay for and provide that service; therefore it is not free. This gross, selfish ignorance is the result of decades of NOT teaching Americans their rights, and villifying the morality that used to make us a nation that even fools like her wouldn’t loathe.

    I heard there is another paradise they can go to, North Korea, free healthcare, free housing, no right wing conservatives to deal with, just communist, like you.
    Also France is turning into a great socialist haven, and there is always Cuba, if you don’t want to travel too far, they do let people immigrate.

    So, instead of killing MY country, and taking away my freedom, because you HATE THIS G>>>M Country…..LEAVE.       The founders believed that our rights were granted to us by God. The left believes that they are granted to us by gov’t. I‘ve always believed that part of the reason behind the left’s attack on religion is that, without God, they win by default – our rights will come to us from the gov’t.

    A right is something that no man can take away without your permission, or without incapacitating you. Calling healthcare a right implies that you will have healthcare, even if you have nothing else. But, that simply isn’t the case. If you are all alone, and something bad happens to you, you will have no healthcare. Rights are not dependent on others… plain and simple.

      I was active duty and sent to the Keys when the Mariana Boat Lift started. After 16 years in retirement I would gladly volunteer for another boat lift in reverse if it included the likes of Randi Rhodes and thousands of her ilk, like 99% of our celebrities, and ENCINOM, DESERT ROSE, SOCIALISM-ROCKS, and many others.
