Life-Saving Trade? Docs Reportedly Find Brain Tumor During Player’s Routine Physical

A couple days ago, the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles decided to swap running backs. However, it was voided at the last minute because one player didn’t pass the routine pre-trade physical. Now, it seems we’ve found out who failed and why — and it could have just saved that player’s life.

The Lions’ Jerome Harrison was supposed to be an Eagle, but when doctors checked him out, they found he had a brain tumor. That’s right, a brain tumor. ESPN has more:

As Philadelphia Eagles doctors were giving newly acquired running back Jerome Harrison his physical, they discovered a brain tumor that nullified a trade with the Detroit Lions, according to two league sources.

The trade might have actually saved Harrison’s life, the sources said. Without the deal being made, Harrison would not have undergone a physical. The tumor is now being treated, according to sources.

[...]

Harrison is not expected to play again this season, but his long-term prognosis both for life and his football career appear to be good, sources said. He is visiting with more doctors Thursday.

I guess the next time you think something bad is happening to you, remember this story and it might just put things into perspective.

This is a good example of how an originally percieved negetive is actually a positive in disguise.

If Mr. Harrison didn’t believe in the Lord Jesus Christ before this, he should now. A similar thing happened to my father years ago. He suffered kidney stones in one kidney. During the testing it was found that he had kidney cancer in his other kidney. It was successfully removed, and he lived another 20 years with only one kidney, never requiring any other treatment for the cancer. A blessing.

something strange is going on. There is a dramatic rise in Brain tumors in the last decade. Brain tumors were considered rare. What is going on? I am sure it there is a connection with wireless technology.

      @ZORRO6821
Don’t blame innovation on tumors! Deregulate! Let the free market solve everything if wireless technology causes brain tumors people shouldn’t buy wireless technology. Companies are people do you think a person would knowingly put people in danger? Look at how the free market worked in the rBST situation. Dairy cows treated with rBST’s linked with significantly higher prostate cancer risk in males. The dairy companies hid this fact for years while raking in the cash. They weren‘t sued successfully they don’t have any penalties just like a person wouldn’t. Free market at its finest! Got Prostate cancer?

Brain tumors can be real boogers, I have a friend who had one removed about 8 yrs ago. She had 7 more years to spend with her husband before he passed on, my sister had 1 discovered and in less than a monthe she was gone. God works in mysterious ways.
God bless Jerome and his family. If he’d have begun showing symptoms, theyd probably have looked at his job and just treated him for concussion at first, the symptoms are usually the same in the beginning. I guess that proves that God even has His hand on the things which we don’t understand, I’ll bet he was wondering if the trade would be good for him.

How about just plain due diligence in contract signoff. Most brain tumors are not detected, before symptoms occur. In most cases it is already too late. For the little people this often the case. Pro Athletes who sign multi million dollar contracts, are required to have a full physical and MRI to make sure that the product (The Athlete) they are buying is fit and healthy. So why is everyone saying this is the work God. This is the work of money and contracts. Get real.

I had an 8 centimeter meningioma (brain tumor the size of a baseball) 10 years ago and just thought I was just getting old. My wife forced me to get an MRI, the 5 neurosurgeons operated the next day for 11 hours and as a result I’m just fine now. I know what this player went through and he and I have much to be thankful for.

I remember a couple years back when he played for the Browns and I had him on my fantasy team when he had that one huge game.

but yeah… I was wondering why the trade didn’t go through, now I know.

Reminds me of a friend of mine who fell through a ceiling while trying to install an attic fan. He began passing blood, and that led to the discovery of a tumor on his kidney. Like other posters have said, sometimes God moves in mysterious ways!

Just a little insight about pro sports for the Deep Thinker on the Blaze. Brain Scan are routine for Football players, Hockey and Boxers. Head Trauma is a real problem. Pro Tennis players and Golfers don’t get brain scans, they get joint and muscle scans. So I really why everything has to be deemed a miracle, when in fact it is just routine. The real miracle occurs if the brain tumor can be cured with surgery or medication. The little guy (like us) will never get these scans as preventative care. We always find out when it it too late. Lighten up with the God Stuff. For every cure there are probably 1000′s who do die from brain tumors. I queses God only like pro Athletes. My point is that we always have to have a reason for everything when in fact, the order of human condition is chaos.

While I am glad that doctors found this man’s tumor, I just want to point out that there is a down side to this story. How would you like to be the other player involved in the trade? That player knows that the Eagles wanted to get rid of him, but now he is stuck with the Eagles because the trade fell through. Maybe they can convince him that they really wanted to keep him, after all.

When I heard the trade didn’t go through, as a Lions fan, I was disappointed. But there are bigger forces at work here, obviously.
God bless Jerome and the Drs. and family, etc.

I continue to be amazed at the “coincidences” that occur to fit into God’s plan. Obviously, Jerome Harrison has more to do here. So a coincidence brought his tumor to the attention of doctors. Praise God, from whom all blessings flow.
