Lightning Strikes Uganda School Killing 23

Lightning Strikes Uganda School Killing 23KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Ugandan officials say 22 students and a teacher died after lightning struck their school in the country’s midwest.

Local police spokeswoman Zura Ganyana said Wednesday that 51 students between the ages of 7 and 16 were injured Tuesday. She said the teacher who died was visiting the Runyanya primary school, about 160 miles (some 260 kilometers) west of Uganda’s capital.

Zombo education official John Ojobi says another school 200 miles (some 320 kilometers) northwest of Kampala was also hit by lightning Tuesday, injuring 37 students and two teachers.

Meteorology experts say school buildings are being hit because they don’t have lightning conductors and are built on high ground.

In the past few weeks, lightning strikes around the country have killed at least 34 people.

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ. I am of the view that we start contributing to these unfortunate people something so as to enable them at least buy a couple of lightening conductors to save lives. I am writing to you from Uganda, so I am on the ground and I have witnessed the situation first hand. Opinions are welcome.

Perhaps Glenn’s fans can figure out a way to get some lightening rods to these schools, I am not great with computers and don’t have much money ,but I would try and help with a small donation. Is it possible?

Although that was a school, they may not have herd about lightning rods. Science is not very well known in the third world. Here in Costa Rica, many people don’t know that air contains water in the form of a gas, called relative humidity. Or that the sun arcs over the North in May, June, and July. I create my own electricity with solar panels. purify my own water with reverse osmosis, and dry my home grown fruit indoors I in a dedicated “dry room”. My knowledge helps me every day while people around my keep doing things the wrong way. Sound familiar?

      @Ted***
      So much more than that.
How many homes that you know are wired for a lightning strike?
Electrical companies that install them for homes are as rare as hen’s teeth. Only a couple can be found in my state, and they are nowhere near me, yet at least one home is struck and goes up in flames every week in a medium size city/town.
Won’t go into all the issues of installation, but I’m told that the placement and quality of the rods and wire are critical issues, or the effort is pointless. Installer also must know state/local code requirements as they apply to homes versus commercial buildings. Then there’s the cost.
With respect to Uganda’s situation, I could not say, except to mention the unlikelihood of finding a competent electrician plus the cost of copper these days (and remember the copper thieves).
Good project for a mission team……

“Benjamin Franklin invented the lightening rod in 1752, with his famous kite experiment… The lightning rod constructed on the dome of the State House in Maryland was the largest “Franklin” lightning rod ever attached to a public or private building in Ben’s lifetime. It was built in accord with his recommendations and has had only one recorded instance of lightning damage. The pointed lightning rod placed on the State House and other buildings became a symbol of the ingenuity and independence of a young, thriving nation, as well as the intellect and inventiveness of Benjamin Franklin.” – The Fact Finder

the responders here sum it up-the only ones to respond to THIS story, lacking in political “sexiness” r good God-Loving ppl offering prayers & hope-like my mom who sponsored 2 kids from Uganda& visited the mission to see the kids getting medical care & schooling they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise, living in tribal ways still,& since the U.N. does nothing for poor African kids unless it means photo ops &regime swapping-like the U.N.doing nothing to stop slaughter in Darfur, but wanted the U.S.to stay out,if it weren’t for the Dr.LIvingstones and missionaries of the world paving the way in the most desolate poor places on earth,& laying inroads for the rest of the following world to come in w/their institutionalized charities & photo-ops,Africa would still be where it was 100 years ago-funny the only person, who wasn’t offering prayer in this blog, was hateful & ignorant, shocker, moral adolescence runs rampant in U.S. right now-thanks to you adults here who offer prayer and support-now if the atheists of the world could actually listen & learn something from the ppl they deride, like get off your arse & help the poor, sick, homeless, maybe you would see what Christianity is all about-but your brainwashed by U.S. media into thinking Christians are jimmy swaggerts &the 1/million churches who make signs like “God hates ****”-obviously,no real Christian supports them, but i’ll bet even the looniest Christian does more 4 their community than whiny/blogging atheist

@Diane,don’t stoop to their level,no real Christian should, they are just lost/need guidance,&Muslim Allah is same God/Elohim/Jahweh as Judeo-Christian God,it’s the prophet Muhammed that differs-any1 that thinks God is “murderous” has 0 knowledge of God,& others have support/prayer on their mind-@encinom-read between the lines in the media, because if you want to consider yourself free-thinking person,i suggest you would say you don’t believe everything you see on tv-then you know program managers at news st. purposely pick most insane bizarre news on religion they can find-i read 0 stories in the news on good things Jews do for community & one day saw story on Rabbi molesting young kid-the 1 bad apple,is magnified through the “medium” of crap news to MAKE ppl think “oh,see they’re all hypocrites”-when the truth is,Christians & Jews do a million good deeds a day all over the world, but news doesn’t consider it sexy enough,so sheeples r the ones who see the 1 bad apple,Catholic priest(more than 1,but proportionally miniscule) who sins,&judge all Christians- make excuse not to believe-Instead of hearing what you want to hear,do the hard thing,& read what Jesus said-sell your possessions & follow me,love your enemies, turn the other cheek etc.maybe only few really understand Jesus & many think they do/judge errantly non-Christians/take 1 verse out of context & use as weapon, same as atheists take 1 verse out of context/saw what they wanted to see, read 4 urself

I‘m convinced that the Christian God wouldn’t have done something like this. It must have been the Muslim Allah, since that sick religion advocates killing anyone that doesn’t believe as they do.

I WISH CHILDREN WOULD NEVER BE HURT, BUT THAT IS NOT REALISTIC

In Utah there was a girl that went on a field trip and had a great day. She was heard telling her friends, I could die today and be happy. Within an hour a lightning bolt hit her on the playground. Sounds like a myth but it is true.

You ask why would God do this? You should be saying, I guess it was her time and thank God she felt nothing.

Michele Bachmann, Mitt Romney, Santorum, and Huckabee have talked about their faith in God and how they have talked to God to know what they should do: http://tiny.cc/is2bw . I say to all those not running for President, you too can talk to God and ask him questions. If you are having a hard time with these accidents that happen to kids, give him a call through prayer.

Look, I am not a cold bastard but why is this story?

Lightning is striking the earth at least 60 times all over the Earth at any moment. People are bound to be struck, schools, churches, brothels… everything is far game.

And, it’s not a targeted Act of God. It’s nature. It happens. Move on.
