Limbaugh Rejects Company That Suspended Ads From Show Over Fluke Remarks

Rush Limbaugh has rejected an advertiser’s apparent attempt to reunite with his show after the company initially dropped its ads from the program following his remarks about contraception advocate Sandra Fluke.
The company, Sleep Train, calls itself “the No. 1 Bedding Specialist on the West Coast, and most recognized mattress retailer in the region.”
In an email to Sleep Train President Dale Carlsen (obtained by The Blaze), a representative of the show says that Limbaugh personally considered the company’s request, but denied it considering its public comments following the controversy.
“Thank you for your requests last week and this week to restart your voiced endorsement in local markets of The Rush Limbaugh Show,” the email begins. “Rush received your requests personally.”
“Unfortunately, your public comments were not well received by our audience, and did not accurately portray either Rush Limbaugh’s character or the intent of his remarks. Thus, we regret to inform you that Rush will be unable to endorse Sleep Train in the future.
“Rush appreciates your long friendship and your past support, and we wish you good luck in the future.”
Last Friday, Sleep Train was vocal in its rejection of Limbaugh.
“As a diverse company, Sleep Train does not condone such negative comments directed toward any person,” the company said in a statement. “We have currently pulled our ads with Rush Limbaugh.”
According to the Washington Post, which tells the story of how the advertiser and Limbaugh started their relationship, Sleep Train had been an advertiser with Limbaugh for over 25 years. Last week, the Post noted how the company had only suspended its ads, not fully dropped the conservative commentator as a retail spokesperson. And while that may have left the door open for a reunion, that has now been rejected by Limbaugh.
“It’s a business decision, and it’s theirs alone to make,” Limbaugh said Monday morning regarding companies who had pulled ads. “They‘ve decided that they don’t want you anymore or your business.” On Wednesday, he also noted the media was misleading the public about the number of advertisers who had dropped the show.
“We’ll replace them,” he assured his audience.
The Blaze contacted Sleep Train for comment but did not hear back in time for publication. Carlsen, however, did confirm the split in a statement to the Post.
This story has been updated with Carlsen’s statement.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 6:26pmFor a company to drop its ads from a program that has 20 million viewers is about the dumbest thing imaginable, especially when the show’s viewers very likely will boycott the advertiser for doing so. That would amount to losing probably about 20% of its business for fear of losing only 5% at the most, if any at all if they stayed on.
Those few that did drop out seem kind of suspect in that their decision appears to be made on a political basis rather than a business one.
But, as I said before, and Limbaugh has now verified, he doesn’t have to worry about advertisers. There’s probably dozens waiting on the sidelines just hoping to be able to get a spot on the show.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 6:52pmThis is hilarious, if they ever paid attention to Rush for the many years they sponsored his program and reaped the rewards being a sponsor, they should have known the consequences of their actions, since over the many years Rush has repeatedly pointed out that his success does not come from his sponsors, It is from his audience. And as he very elequently pointed out on his program monday, that was a marketing decision of their own,,(paraphrazing here) to remove themselves from the largest talk radio listening audience. although he didn’t mention names,, but the list that the lamestream media was so jubiliant over was bound to come out.
Report Post »Odd a number of these companies no longer have ads running on Hannity and Beck’s programs either,,,, well, I guess is they shot themselves in the foot over this nonsense, since they lost ad time from the top three talk shows.
Now,! in this economy, how is that for intelligent marketing?
Any bets on how fast a few CEO’s are replaced??

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 6:18pmYup! Sweet. I called the bed company and told them I was going to buy the bed by late spring, so now I guess I’ve saved myself some money, I tried the sleep number l bed at a hotel last year for several nights and to tell you the truth, you have to get used to it. Just didn’t have the feel like a regular type bed. Since last year, I almost changed my mind and was going to get one anyway.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 5:55pmRush is an idiot for re-igniting the contraceptive story. Obama and his palace guards in the media don’t want to talk about the economy, because it makes Obama look back in an election year. So they distract Americans with silly contraception stories, and Rush took the bait.
Rush should know better. Time to retire Rush. The media played you like a fiddle.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 7:09pmRush didn’t make a mistake. The lefties are constantly on the attack, nibbling at the ankles like a rat terrier on the hunt. Sandra Fluke singled out this college, knowing it didn‘t provide contraceptive coverage in it’s health program. She was on a mission. This is her resume. She was on a job interview when she met with the congressional leaders. The question is, will the Democrats use her next time? darn it seems she is always being used, either by the men or by the Dems. Hate when that happens.

Good articles everyday on American Thinker. There was an article/blog from March 5th that had many comments about this story and all the sponsors who dropped were listed. I was amazed.

And one of the things he does is point out some of the crazier stuff that leftists come up with. He used a couple of words that were way milder than the kind used by liberals, only to be rebuked by hypocritical liberals who don’t have any problem calling conservative women “c**ts“ or ”t**ts”.

Posted on March 8, 2012 at 6:26pmBEEKEEPER…no matter how much of a young, frail little martyr the left tries to portray Fluke as, the reality is she’s a 30 year old woman demanding others pay for her abortions, contraceptives and steriliants while she attends a university that she knew was a Catholic one. She’s demanding that employers pay for sex-changes. Her “$3000″ idiocy is also quite laughable. People are hurting. Posted on March 12, 2012 at 12:48amThe word point is ambiguous, but usually defaults to “basis” point, not percentage point when talking about the stock market. If you ask a trader if your stock went up 3 points, he’s looking at the basis points, not percentage points. So, 12% != 12 points. Points are the number of dollars. If a stock is worth $12.00 and went up to $13.50, it went up 1.5 points. However, that is a 12% increase.
